Booking a two-week stay at Circus Circus for your first ever trip to Vegas is a terrible idea regardless of your age.

I will say have a plan B and a plan C and a plan D. Then rehearse your "Mom/Dad...I'm in jail..." phone call, you're probably gonna need it.

I'm sure a lot of us had some good times using fake id's. It's one thing to get into a bar, or get thrown out of a bar with a fake id. It's quite another to impersonate somebody else with their id when there's money involved. It's not the 60's, 70's, 80's anymore.

Wait, you don't have long to wait and you'll have more fun. I think at best, even if you pull it off, you'll have a crappy time. And at worst, you're in for problems that drag on longer than you ever imagined. Don't have a crappy time in Vegas.

The other thing is, you need your id day to day. What is your friend going to do without his id while you're gone? What happens to him if you get caught?

I know there's always some lawyer types that come in here and say oh yeah, don't worry, you're good, they got nuthin' on you. Which is maybe true, as long as you can afford a lawyer who can pull that off for you. So, add that to your vacation budget.

I bought a "fake" ID from China when I was 19...it was pretty spot on...had the watermark and hologram, scanned and everything. It worked in Vegas for checking into the hotel, buying booze, and gambling (granted I didn’t get a hand pay). I never tried to get into a club but it probably would have worked.

Now the difference between your situation and mine is that my fake was my actual picture, address, and Bday (just shifted 3 years).

I don’t think yours will work...they are really strict about IDing. A buddy of mine has an old picture on his ID; he had long hair and no beard...now he has short hair and a beard and they sometimes don’t except it...even though it is actually his ID. He has to show his school ID and his military ID that have name and picture on it...

Also, if you “want to use a small portion of it (sweepstakes winnings) to live a little” then you should stay at somewhere nicer and enjoy it. First time I stayed in Vegas was at Bellagio, it set the bar pretty high but it was a great first experience.

Just wait till you two are 21, you will be able to enjoy it more since you won’t be worried about your IDs working or not...why stress when on vacation??

I'll be 40 next month, and I still get carded in casinos. And they look at it pretty darn closely. Personally, I start cheering when I get carded, your experience however may differ.

Please let us know how your stay in the Clark County Detention Center was when you get out. (Seriously dude, just wait til you are 21. Vegas will still be there.)

The fake ID thing worked for Rusty Griswold. Look at all the fun he had.

I'm sure it will work here. No need to fret.

The security deposit is to get a CC on file in case you trash the room...its not so much about the amount.

Also, not making a reservation risks that you dont get a room, and you will pay the hotel rate...which is going to be WAY more than you can get elsewhere by making a reservation

Yeah, as a lawyer type, I definitely think this is an awful idea. I think what a lot of the advice to the contrary misses is something I pointed out earlier -- what happens if he gets hit by a car crossing the street and winds up in the hospital? There are definitely situations other than just getting caught by casino security that could cause a lot of difficulty for someone with an ID that's not his.

If the issue is simply "casino gambling" (as opposed to "casino gambling in Vegas"), then there are a few casinos in the US where you can both legally gamble.
Here's a link that shows all of the states gambling rules regarding minimum age:
    http://www.worldcasinodirectory.com/gambling_age_chart.htm
Otherwise, my advice as an old coot who used to be young and just as adventurous as the two of you appear to be - wait...at least until you hit 21...then take her with you and see how it goes.
I took my GF (now my wife) when she was 19... and she was able to play, sitting with me, at most of the blackjack tables we visited. On those few times when she was carded, they simply (and politely) told us that she wasn't allowed to gamble, but that she could stand behind me while I gambled... of course, this was in the 80s, and a LOT of things were different then than they are now, not the least of which was the drinking age in most states.
Whatever you decide, good luck... and if you're dead-set on going to Vegas anyway, then skip Circus. Try downtown (any place other than the Nugget). You room rate will be very similar (if not actually lower)... you can always run cabs to/from the strip.

go to europe you only have to be 18 to anything you want .

pss if they can prove his friend new he was using his id he would be charged ,probaly loose his drivers licences and i belive some states will also take away the persons using the id driving privlages now for a period of time.

pss this could be a great story line for the hangover # 4

I agree it does sound like a bad plan involving serious risks and you will certainly be carded multiple times if you are young looking. Unlike others, I think if the IDs are actually real you do have a very good chance to "get away with it."

I would be judicious about where I used the IDs (NOT clubs). Furthermore, you should be aware that Caesars was fined last year for allowing minors to play and drink:

    http://www.reviewjournal.com/business/casinos-gaming/caesars-pay-100000-fine-settle-under-age-gambling-alcohol-charges

Caesars Palace is aggressively carding young looking people. Perhaps other properties in their "empire" are as well--probably best to avoid the entire chain.

Assuming you are flying to LV, you will of course need your REAL ID with you in order to board the aircraft, which is also problematic.

You should go back and re-read what shifter wrote. The do take the gambling very serious and there would be nothing worse than hitting something big and not getting paid because you're gambling illegally. If you hit a hand pay, it won't just be a glancing of your ID...they'll take it and leave and then come back w/ at least one other person.

Buying beer on a fake ID back home and using one in Las Vegas are two different animals....In a word....don't.

My son was in Las Vegas for his 21st birthday.
His underage friend joined the group with his brother's drivers license as he "looked just like him".
He did not try to gamble or check into the hotel .
He was grabbed by security drinking at a poker bar and asked for ID.
Long story short........they took his ID and banished him to the hotel room.
They told him he was not getting it back but they pleaded and gave it back 3 hours before the flight home.

As everyone said, it is a real bad idea!

This is an interesting thread. I have been gambling since I was 16 with my brother's ID. This information is from my experience.

I checked into several hotels with my brother's ID. I believe this part will be quick and easy for you. As long as your debit/credit card matches the name of the ID, you will be fine. My friends have used fake IDs to get hotels. They will put ~$100 hold per night at least most casinos. Circus circus is probably less. I recommend going to Monte Carlo, NYNY, or Luxor. Circus circus is not the spot in terms of location and rooms, especially for younger people.

Gambling is a different story. When I was underage, my local casino didn't really care. Vegas is much more strict and serious about their gaming rules. You will be safe playing slots as long as you don't hit a jackpot. If your ID looks like you, I think you should be fine ordering drinks through the CW on a slot machine, just tip them. If you plan to play table games, you may encounter a problem depending which dealer/pitboss ID you. I never had a problem. My ID has always worked.

Present, I always get ID in Vegas whether it be from the CW, bartender or dealer/pit boss. It's rare for someone not to ID me in Vegas, I look very young for my age.

One thing I noticed was that I never get ID in the high stakes room. I played $25-50 slots before and have never been ID by the pit boss, which was only a few times. I have been in the high stakes baccarat lounges many times where I prefer to play. They have never asked for my ID, just players card. I think they don't ask because I generally buy in for $5k-7k cash at one time. I guess their reasoning would be what underage kid would buy in for this amount. I didn't start playing in the high stakes room until I was older than 21 though.

As posted earlier, I would avoid nightclubs. They will take your ID unless your ID is very good. Remember you can order alcohol to your room or go to Walgreens/CVS (depending on the quality of your ID) to pick some up. I think your greatest challenge will be playing table games.

I don't encourage underage gambling, drinking, etc., but as long as you are safe, you should be fine. Just be ready for if something does go wrong. There's always a chance. If you do get caught, tell your friend to say he lost his ID. If they ask you, say you found it. Oh yeah, you have the right to not talk to the police, wait for your attorney. If you are caught, you will be charged with misdemeanor(s), maybe gross misdemeanor. I'm not sure on Nevada laws.

I commented on this post already but completely forgot to mention...

My co-workers daughter pulled this off last year however she was there with her dad. Still went to bars and gambled. She was 19 at the time and used her older cousins ID.

This probably sounds stupid but if you do carry your ID, Id carry in a separate pocket than any credit cards that have your real name/info on them.

I was at Harrah's a month ago, on a mini-roulette heater and they shut the table down for close to a half hour trying to verify an ID that looked suspicious. A couple of pit bosses were involved and they were comparing it to a book of various approved IDs.

I guess the take-away for me was that as much as casinos love gambling action and hate shutting down tables, they don't hesitate to do it, if they have any suspicions of underage activity.

If those ID's really look like you two it will probably work just fine, just dont push your luck, chances are you wont get carded as much as you might think anyway, most security types in the casino's will give them a quick glance and that's it, likewise the cocktail girls wont care much either.
Dont let some of these old fuddy duddies discourage you either, it's not like you're going to committing crimes with these id's, worst case you get kicked out of a casino.

Dude, in Nevada what the OP is considering is a crime.
They don't treat it lightly either.

But hell, let him find that out on his own. We're only here as a sounding board.
Vegas and fuddy duddies don't mix. :Þ
