Scooters

I currently live in Key West where scooters are more common than cars..... Would a scooter in Las Vegas be a good or bad form of transportation ?
I understand the heat etc,,, was mainly wondering about city streets and speed limits as most only go 40mph tops... I will be relocating in September and wasn't sure if it is a good means of transportation... I will be living near flamingo and paradise area... thanks for the advice as usual !!

 

I lived at Flamingo and Maryland Parkway but it was 1997 so keep that in mind. But I did have a scooter and I got around just fine. I used it to commute to work and visit the strip to play at times, the valet guys loved it actually. But I hardly ever saw anyone else on scooter and of course you totally had to drive 110% defensively. You do learn the back streets pretty well in attempt to stay off the main roads. But for awhile, I rode scooter straight down Flamingo, from Maryland Parkway to Jones on west side. It was a little scary going over I15 but I got use to it and don't recall ever having any problems with other drivers.

 

i have one ,the best way to get around ,it will cost you around 600$ no helment no isurance no license plate needed. no rules.
only way to go in vegas i suggest you add trunk on the back for 40 $ to go food shooping.i pretty sure i know where you going to be living as i looked over there.im in city center.

you get great parking ,real cheap 80 miles a gallon.

i can recomend a great scooter place near you if you want they also will do all the oil changes and everything you need there a great family owned father son shop by trop and dean martin drive.

i took out insurance just play it safe it was around 60$ for the whole year.

I suppose it would work fine for the reasons stated above... BUT... I'd reinforce the "110% defensive driving" comment, because I don't see Vegas roads as very friendly to those devices. The main roads are wide and traffic moves fast (when the traffic does move). Scooters are just flat hard to see, but also as stated above, there's plenty of side street options that can be used. Vegas streets tend to be laid out straight and go for long-distances.

as i said nice people a father and son shop and the repair and do anything you want on them.

price in cash was around 600$ add 40$ for credit card use.

they charge 50$ to do my 150 mile double oil change and 25$ to do the single 500 mile oil change.

once you get the hang of the scotter you will be zooming in and out of trafic and cars.its real easy.

 

Scooters are becoming more and more popular. My brother has had one about nine months. He lives and works near the strip. It gets him and to and fro pretty well. He uses bike/bus lanes and avoids busy streets at peak times by taking back roads. He's bought his from Budget Scooter Parts. He's had to buy two since one was stolen. $625 with trunk and helmet.

Theft is the biggest concern. I recommend getting an alarm and locking it up.

Paperposter, I'm curious who you were able to insure yours through? My brother tried but it cost more to insure than to replace. Some quotes were as high as $2000, the least was $800.

 

farmers insured they also do my apartment,ive never owned a car so im not really up on the whole insurance thing but i think it was like 15,00 /25,000 policy notsure really what it does but it cost around 6 $ a month.i did it to ease my moms stress and it was so cheap so why not.

i belive farmers subs out the policy thru another company.

psss yes theft is your biggest concern. lock it thru the back wheel but rember casino have security on bikes so that helps,most thefts i hear about people leaving them over nite where they live
