Hi guys and gals. Looks like the next time I go to Vegas I will be driving out on a Friday afternoon around 3-4pm from Orange County CA. This will one my first drives on a weekend, and have the time off from work. Usually I drive starting on Monday, which is usually my regular days off.

I understand this is during rush hour but would like to know the boards suggestions on the least hectic way. I have a 91 Express lane pass, or shall I go the usually way up the 57 to the 60 until I hit the 15.

Drive the 91express lane to the 15 -or-
Drive 57 North to the 60 East. then to the 15 North.

    Any suggestions are welcome!

The 57 north is really busy at that time. If you can use the carpool lane it's not too bad.

It really doesn't matter which route you take. I have left from South Orange county at that time. It always ends up being a 5+ hr. trip. Getting up the Cajon
pass is sometimes 2+ hours. I have used the 57 to 60, 55 to 91 with express lane, 241 toll road to 91 to 15. Also tried cutting across the 10, 60, and 91/215 to link to the 15. At that time they are all slow.
Just relax, drive carefully, whichever direction you choose. And good luck.

Yes, I will be with 2 more people to travel, so the diamond lane is it for me Don. I was wondering when I get to the 15, is the traffic moving? Slow? I was wondering Don, is there carpool lanes all along the 57 and the 60? (When I take my normal trips, I usually stay in the fast lane, not the diamond lane, so I am unaware of the stoppages of the carpool lane).

Probably gonna take the carpool lane 57 to the 60, if there is a consistent carpool lane.

dbldeuce, yes I will take my time! I guess I will just have to flow with the traffic(if it's moving!!!)

The 15 will be super slow on late afternoon Friday into the evening. Billions of Cali's will be arriving for the weekend. It's usually 4-4 1/2 hours driving into Vegas at normal times........however, with your plans, probably a lot longer. It's mostly a 2 lane highway and pray that there are no accidents.
If at all possible try and leave earlier than 3 pm.

    oc to vegas

I drive back and forth from Pomona to Vegas often. I would say wait a little while before leaving or leave around 1 or 2. Tons of trucks, and tons of people doing the same thing you are. I leave around noon and usually hit vegas by 4.

I agree it's not going be great either way. Id suggest to just check sigalert right before you leave and pick the route that dosen't look as congested. Also, if you can leave an hour earlier, like at 2pm, it'll make a huge difference

Yes, they both have carpool lanes. I'd suggest taking the 57 to the 210 even though it's 2-3 miles longer because you'll enter the 15 well north of what's usually a backed up area of the 15 on a Friday.

91 will come to a crawl once the express lane ends. If you take the 91 express, get off on 71north...make a right onto River Rd (Schleisman)...turn left onto Archibald Ave...turn right onto Limonite...get obto 15 north. You will still hit traffic on the 15, but yous will bypass the 91/15 jam.

I would take the 57 to the 210, then the 15. Doing it that way you join up with the 15 near Cherry / Summit. That should save quite a bit of time.

Ok Don, looks like that's the way to go at that time. 57 to the 210, does 210 have diamond lanes?

I would take the 57 up to the 10. I've had surprisingly good luck with the 10.

210 could be OK too, but I would heck the map on your phone as you get close to the 10/210. As someone else said, the 15 has various trouble spots, so consider where your freeway choice will drop you on the 15.

Avoid the 91 at all costs.

I've heard this once before, and am interested in trying it. Traffic has always been so bad on Fridays, I've started going out on Saturday, returning Monday instead of Fri-Sun.

They are doing construction on the 15 between the 10 and 210. I would take the 57 to the 210 to the 15 to avoid the mess.

    just a heads up

    http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-nevada-speeding-las-vegas-20130730,0,4225243.story

I realize some will say "well I won't be driving 120 so that is not me", but according to the article they are looking for ANY infraction and they are going to give a ticket no matter what for ANY infraction so really the headline was just to grab attention before they told the "truth" that Nevada highway patrol needs some additional revenue and they are going to get it from California drivers before the casinos do

so heads up in I-15 from Primm to Vegas.....and remember it is for your safety... :rolleyes2:
