Eye Roll. Looks like Golden Nugget is playing more games. Their $5 Fremont Street Eperience Fee has been renamed as "$5 Downtown Destination Fee". This makes the fee seem even more of a joke than before.

Heh, I just noticed that, too. They're giving Caesars a run for their money for the "Worst implementation of resort fees" award.

    From their website...

"Each reservation will include a savings pass upon check-in featuring exclusive discounts at many downtown businesses, museums and amusements."

I wonder what is in this?

Yeah, I just saw that, too. I would guess they changed the name on 1 July 2013, as that is when they started implementing the FSEF for arrivals. Sorry, but that is no savings pass when I have to pay for it. Especially if it is stuff I never planned to go to. You are correct, what is in it? I will be visiting in early August. Word has it that when I booked the FSE fee was not in play, so I don't expect to have to pay it. Probably means that I won't have the pass book issued to me. I will ask, though, what is in it.

Lol, no kidding. Pretty expensive little book if you stay more than 1 night.

D-OH! I didn't even think about that. Maybe they give one book for every night stayed. One could make that argument, I suppose.

Why, oh why don't they just "man up" and put the cost in their room rates. A lot of us would be much happier and accepting. I speak for myself and at least a few others. Don't play games. GN, you already have enough games to take my money (craps; blackjack; let it ride; and slots for my wife.)

I feel for the hotel which did keep downtown afloat while most other properties sat stagnant. Trying to compete in a market with near universal resort fees is causing the remaining holdouts (South Point, LVH and now GN) to succumb to fees just to keep up with the Jones.

I agree it would be more upfront and honest to charge a resort fee than to pull games like calling it the Fremont Street Experience Fee, Downtown Destination Fee, The Shameful Suckers Fee. etc.

    The Strip without Frontier
    Downtown no Pioneer

Jeux sans frontieres = Fees, so popular...

Except their competition isn't Strip or off-Strip properties, it's other downtown properties.

I just think GN saw a way to boost revenues, and as the nicest property downtown, was chosen to be the guinea pig and be the first to try out the new fee.

If it sticks -- and I'm pretty sure it will given how resort fees, airline luggage fees, etc. have all stuck -- the other downtown properties will follow.

    4 Star vs. 3 stars or less = Downtown, Quad/Flamingo/Bally's/Harrah's, Monte Carlo/NYNY/Luxor/Excalibur.

The Golden Nugget can be considered an actual resort unlike the aboved mentioned properties (or the 1 star Wild Wild West which also has a higher resort fee ($5.95) than the proposed GN fee). The Plaza was the first to institute a room fee (more than double GN's), and the Downtown Grand will likely have a resort fee (hasn't been publically announced).

I expect Golden Gate/D owners to follow suit to recoup their room upgrade expense (Gold Spike also had a resort fees), leaving Boyd Properties and El Cortez as the last hold outs. Boyd rooms haven't had much work over the past several years. El Cortez also hasn't touched their rooms beyond their new Cabana Suites.

We just need Southwest Airlines to open up a hotel/casino.

No resort fees, no "downtown" fees, no BS, you can cancel your room at the last minute (or even just don't show up) and you'll get a hotel credit at the very least.

But you need to be there 24 hours in advance to secure your spot in the check-in line! Rooms are first come first served! :poke:

Again, however, and you seem to agree with the "not playing semantics game" the Golden Nugget has stated that the fee is for their paying for the Fremont Street Experience. That is the premise of which they are working off. It is not to recoup their upgrade costs. I know, I know, it probably is, but then just say so. Call a spade a spade. For me, the amount of the fee is not the issue. It's the way the GN is going about it, and still touting that they do not have a resort fee (technically correct, I suppose.)

    I 100% agree.

Call a spade a spade and a resort fee a resort fee, regardless of what you plan to offset the additional revenue with (Fremont Street Monthly Dues, $1M Bonus for the CEO, upgrades to rooms, etc.).

Just raise the room rates $5. Who would really notice?

It's a moving target. I can barely keep up with it. First it was going to be a resort fee, then a FSE fee, now a downtown destination fee.

I figure by time I get there in Sep it will be a simple gratuity...like when you have a party of six or more at a restaurant.

If D institutes a fee, they would lose half their room renting customers. While the renovation changed the outside appeareance, the core problems of the D are still there. We're done with them after 1 stay. I wonder how many others are in the same boat.

Hopefully GN is the only place downtown that chooses to do this fee because its the only complete hotel that can compete with the strip low end properties.

Oh they'll probably do that as well but we wont notice.

I see the GN website has finally removed the 'No Resort Fees' logo, despite this 'not being a resort fee'! :confused2:

UPDATE- My mistake it's on the booking page!
