I was very confused by this since I have seen the window at the Nugget to sell alcohol. They built it, but can't use it?

I've been on Fremont at night, but never really paid attention. What about the outdoor bars at Golden Gate, D, etc. Are those actually illegal?

 

That is covered in the article in the link posted above: "Deputy City Attorney Val Steed said the change is needed because the recent renovation of the Golden Nugget already included such a window."

So yes, they built it but couldn't use it until this law was passed.

This new ordinance is for selling liquor through walk-up windows, not bars extended out to the street (which would have already been legal). The "no window" law stemmed from not allowing liquor stores to have a drive up window.

 

I like the idea, it should encourage some of the properties to start selling from a window and eleminate the crowding caused by temp/full-time bars in front of the casino. Yes, I am a fan of the girls dancing but it adds to the congestion.

 

I know it was used at one time. Group of 4 guys made a deal that if any of us made more than $300 in one craps session he was on the hook for 4 footballs full of tap beer from the Nugget window.

Somewhat funny story and proof that drunk habits are hard to break. After buying the 4 footballs and doing our best to look like tourists under the canopy, I passed on an opportunity to order a bottle of beer at our next craps stop because I had beer in the football left to finish. It didn't dawn on me how warm, flat and crappy the tap beer was and I ended up being the only one in our group not drinking a new, cold bottled beer. I very much looked like I had a few quarters left before finishing college.

 

We have drive up liquor stores all over Iowa. They don't allow them in Vegas? Seems......wrong. :confused2:

Yes just what we need, more liquor in Las Vegas! There are already some liquor stores downtown.
