I'll be staying at MSS next month for my anniversary. I'm wondering what would be a good option for that special dinner.
I was looking into Hugo's Cellar, Oscars and Binion's steakhouse. I'm willing to go outside of downtown and make the trip down the strip if needed. I was hoping for some good suggestions. My only criteria are that it's no more than $50 a plate and that the attire isn't too formal. I have to pack light so I'm only taking a sports coat and slacks.

    Thanks in advance.

I'd vote for Chart House inside Golden Nugget. Notify them in advance and they will print up a special menu for you with your names at the top. I'd recomend asking for a table or booth against the giant aquarium. It's where I rang in my 50th birthday and loved every moment. The staff went out of their way to make it special....

    Awesome thanks Sam!
    How are the prices there?
The ambiance and fish tank look great.

Oscar's was f-ing great the one time I ate there (my last trip to Vegas, would repeat). Get reservations to sit in the dome that looks out over Fremont, if not you are in a back room called the Speakeasy. Same food, same service, you only miss out on the view.

Most of my downtown trips are solo, so I can't speak to many nice places. But Oscar's was great when I went with my old college roommate in late 2012. Hugo's was very nice when I ate there, but that was more than 10 years ago.

No need to leave downtown. Lots of nice places there. $50 is tight, unless you skip booze, but Oscar's will be close.

I'd say that the menu is in your price range. The ambiance is terrific. While it doesn't have the view of Oscar's, it has a unique intimate feeling, as though you are eating in a room under the ocean. Quiet, soothing, and a very professional and pleasant serving staff. I left feeling completely satisfied.

Here's a copy of their menu and prices:

BTW, I'd recommend getting a Landry's Select card. It costs $25, but is given back on your first visit, plus $25 every year on your birthday. Plus priority seating and lots of other stuff, including upgrades at the Golden Nugget hotel.

    Have a great time.

2nd Street Grill at Fremont. But then, I don't love steak - I love the Pacific Rim cuisine there (though the meat is good, according to husband & BIL/Sister who've eaten there too) I always get the whole pan fried snapper with ginger:peace: I love the round banquettes and the old-school atmosphere with knowledgeable servers:thumbsup:

I'm kinda partial to Hugo's and have had many great meals there. I like the atmosphere there, upscale but not stuffy. I've eaten at the Vegas Chart House once and dined at the one here at Lake Tahoe lots of times. The Chart House there in the Nugget is more modern that Hugo's, very nice and also, not stuffy. I had an outstanding meal, as did everyone in my party.

I second the 2nd Street Grill at the Fremont. It is quiet, dark and romantic, and the food is terrific

With their (Second Street Grill) $20, pound T-bone steaks, you could easily get out of there of $60 total.

A sport coat and slacks will be plenty dressed at any if the places downtown. If you do The Flame at El Cortez, then get an American Casino Guide and use the coupon for $25 off. If you have points on a Binion's players card you can use them at the Binion's Steakhouse. It's got the nicest view of the downtown restaurants (though Oscar's has a pretty good view as well). You really can't go wrong at any of the places that have been mentioned. Enjoy your special dinner!

I had an outstanding meal at Oscar's with my wife and some friends. The food and cocktails were excellent. Our server was excellent, and the view was great from our seats.

I haven't been to the other steakhouses downtown, but would guess Oscar's would stack up pretty high.

Have always enjoyed Hugos cellar, nice "old Vegas" feel about the place. They give you a comp salad that is made in front of you with any or all of the 20 or so ingredients they have on the salad trolley, almost a meal in itself!! Ladies also receive a lovely rose on entering.
