Ok excuse the "noob" question but I can't find the answer when doing a search. How do the match play coupons work on table games? I have seen numerous coupons for "new" player's to get a 1:1 payoff on a single bet. Then coupon says no cash value. So example, I use a match play coupon on a craps passline bet. If the bet wins does it become a valid chip to cash in or does it remain a match play chip or should I say cheque?

If it wins, it is paid in real chips you can cash out. Match play means you have to bet at least as much as the match play coupon with real. Money. Whether it wins or loses, the casino will take the coupon after a decision. If there is a push as in blackjack, it stays in play for the next hand

Good question, I have never played them because I didn't know either. But sounds like it is free money to bet with - yes I understand that you still need to make an initial bet.

Has anyone ever played a match bet coupon? Do the dealers look at you like a cheapskate (my fear), or is it par for the course?

If someone hands me a $20 bill i take it (which is the pretty muchequivalent of a match play) I could care less if they look at me like i am cheap. Why throw away free money?
To answer your question, its par for the course. Just dont hold up a game while cashing it in and everyone will be fine.

I would just add that if you're going to use a match play on a hit and run (meaning you're just playing the one hand win or lose with the matchplay and moving on) try to find an empty table to do so. It's not great table etiquette to do hit and runs on occupied tables and you may get a few looks from the players there.

Other than that, feel free to play them without shame.

What's this "shame" thingy? I look at match play coupons more like an award, a badge of distinction, and use them whenever I can. If they provoke any reaction from the other players, it's more like "coupon envy" than anything else. It's been quite some time, but I went on a couple junkets to Aruba where you'd earn $400 in $5 match play chips after satisfying the minimum playing time requirement. Taking racks of chips to the table was a lot of fun!

Be advised that some coupons can be brought directly to the table, while others have to be "validated" at the player's club. Sometimes they stamp them and other times replace them with something similar. It's interesting, however, how some dealers act like they've never seen them before. Outside of comps, coupons are the best deal you're going to get.

Thanks for answers everyone. Was looking at picking up a couple of coupons to use but the only time I've ever used any type of match play was a free slot play with new membership to players clubs. I don't care for slots so its nice to see I can use a few match plays at the tables.

This is overstating a non-problem. If you want to play one hand of blackjack (at a shoe game) with a match play where players are already there, just do it. Players that get upset because an extra hand of blackjack got played and the 'flow of the cards was disturbed' are doofuses that deserve those bad feelings.

Once in a long while a shoe game will actually have a no-mid-shoe entry rule posted, but this is rare in Vegas.

I don't want to devolve this thread into an etiquette debate, but just because you can do something, doesn't make it proper etiquette to do so.

For someone who is going to do a hit and run on a MP, why wouldn't you do so at the empty BJ table rather than going to a full table, slowing down play with your 5-10 dollar buyin (or whatever the MP is)? Just go to the empty table, play your MP and move on, why interrupt a table when it's not necessary? Whether it makes any difference in the "flow of the cards" or not is irrelevant, the question is why interrupt a game for one hand on a MP when it's not necessary to do so?

If there are no open tables, then by all means go for it, I just don't understand the attitude of "I can do whatever the F*** I want and who are you to tell me otherwise" when discussing proper etiquette.

The thing with match play is that the places that offer it are going to be used to people using it, so you'll look normal. It tends to be lower end places offering match play to start with, so looking cheap isn't going to be much of an issue.

I use matchplay coupons all the time. Both Trump properties in AC give me one every week. Just make sure to read the coupon, because they are not always good for every bet. The ones I get are only good on even money bets, but at craps they are only good for the pass line (you can not use them on the don't pass). Also, for craps you can take odds on the match play. Example you have $10 on the pass line with a $10 matchplay, you could have $100 odds at a 5 times odds table.

    Match Play

A match play coupon is your best friend....as others have suggested, read the coupon for limitations...usually, the match play is only good oneven money bets...and cannot be used to "offset" another bet....some coupons are good until you lose the bet....if you are playing craps and you don't play the pass line bet, I would use the match play on the big 6 or 8....you basically are getting paid 2:1...

Drop one down for the crew

Whenever I do a match play, I always run $1 beside it for the dealers. Sure, this decreases my profitability a bit, but having the dealers on your side is always much, much nicer than having the other players on your side. :)

    Don't Pass

The best way IMHO to play a match play is the Don't Pass at Craps. If you get by the come out roll you now have the edge to the casino.

It isn't as if making a bet at a blackjack table is 'anything I f***ing want'. That's what the empty circles at the blackjack table are for. Also, in most casinos it is rare to see tables with zero players at them. Of course, if that's an option, then that makes some sense. But I'd hate to tell someone with a match play coupon in his hand that he should wait around for a table to empty before he should feel OK about making his bet.

The notion that the 3-4 players at a blackjack table in the middle of shoe somehow 'own' that table and have some 'right' to not have new players join is just plain wrong, IMHO. Joining mid-shoe is perfectly acceptable, whether you are going to play one hand or play for the next hour. If the casino allows and invites mid-shoe entry, so should the players.
