Day trip to the Hard Rock Biloxi

Quick day trip to the Hard Rock in Biloxi today with my girlfriend. We started out at the $5 tables and there were so many people who were hitting 15s vs. 5s, and the like we migrated to the $10 tables out of sheer frustration. Same story there. For the first time in my 30+ years of playing BJ I witnessed a SOBER person split tens vs. a dealers Ace. Un-freaking-believable. From there we went to the $25 tables. At this point she is up about $200 and I'm up $85.

We played alone at the $25 table, thank God, and she walked away with a tidy win of a little over $1,800 and I colored in for $1,345. At one point the dealer busted about ten times in a row.

To make a great day better we got tickets to see Crosby, Stills & Nash there in May.

A fun day to be sure, but it makes me wonder why people play table games in which they have no clue in how to at the very least preserve some of their bankroll.

As a side note, at the $10 dollar table a guy and his buddy were playing where one guy was dealt Ace-Eight. His buddy told him to "split" them. So the guy put out an extra bet and told the dealer he was splitting his Ace-Eight. When the dealer told him that those cards could not be split his buddy jumped in and told the dealer matter of factly that in BJ Aces and Eights should always be split. The look on the lady dealers face was priceless.

If you ever go to Biloxi I highly recommend The Hard Rock. Also, right next door, a five minute walk, is the Beau Rivage. The Beau is splendid and has killer buffets.

Epilogue: When we got home my girlfriend found a cranberry chip she forgot she stashed away for safekeeping in her jeans pocket.......

Nice post. I had a similar experience when I met up with my wife one trip while in Vegas at the Tropicana. She was playing at a table that was full so I decided to join a different one and bought in for $1000. Immediately two pitbosses rolled in and recorded the buy-in as if this is big action, lol. The table was full of college kids and were hitting on 12's vs 6's and 16's vs 2's. I was playing $100 a bet and unfortunately for me, I lost my buy-in and left the table in disgust from the horrible play. Despite the un-educated play from those players, in long run, their dumb decisions mathematically doesn't affect my outcome. I just have to eat those short term runs that contradicts that hehe. After we left the Trop, I won my money back playing alone at the MGM next door at the $50 Double deck table.

 

Yeah, the nimrod play bothers me more intellectually than dollar wise. The first time I played BJ I played for about an hour before the lady dealer politely advised me to go to the gift shop and get a basic strategy card. This is back in the early 80s. In the Internet age I can not conceive of someone playing BJ without even a rudimentary understanding of basic strategy.

It's frustrating at the time, but it does make for some funny memories.

 

Just wondering why so frustrated the way "others" are playing and spending their own cash?

I see plenty of people playing table games with less than optimum strategy yet they are still having fun. Me, I am just happy to have the opportunity to be out gambling which really doesn't happen often enough for me.

You'll enjoy the Beau Rivage and the Hard Rock. The Beau reminds me a lot of Bellagio, but on a smaller scale. The customer service is outstanding but the minimums at the tables are higher than any other casino in Biloxi, usually $10. The Hard Rock is right next door and is a lot of fun and very nice. All the other casinos have $5 minimums during the weekdays.
