...........their ancient tube TV's. Flat screen finally. Is that true for all of their standard suites? Also, which tower is closest to the pool......Masquarade or Ipinema. I don't really care about the view, but i prefer a recently renovated room if at all possible. I am comped but i don't see the reason for the upgrade if the standard suites are basically the same.

I was in the Ipanema tower last month, which is the shorter tower and had views of the pools, villas, and the tall tower. It had been repainted, newer furniture and a flat screen. Was on the 16th floor.

It's been a few years since I had stayed there but on my last trip I did have a LCD tv when I got an upgrade to a Diamond room. It was something that fit into the existing armoire, though, as if the tube tv died and they had to put something in there. As for renovations, it sounded like they were going to do Ipenema again before touching Masquerade. In terms of pool access, I don't think that there is a significant difference in distance but you have to walk across the casino from Masquerade while you can kinda hug the walls getting there from Ipenema.

    Rio

Stayed there within the last 2 weeks in the Impana (sp) tower and the room was great. Everything new. Their customer services was great and this tower is closest to the pool entrance. I highly recommend the Rio. Also for strip lovers they keep 2 shuttles hooping between the Rio and strip. No fear over being off strip.

OK, thanks guys. I will try to get the Ipanema room about half way up. And i'm happy to hear about the shuttles and there frequency. Last time i stayed off strip was at the old San Remo....LOL.

Thanks Sam and VP Player. I have a comped room, do i need to use the sandwich to get the Ipanema? Or do they automatically give you an Ipanema suite? According to the TR info, the deluxe room is standard, but it doesn't say which Tower it is, the Premium room with strip view (which is not comped), is extra. But what if you want the pool, villas, etc. view but also want to make sure it's not the Masquarade Tower?

I've just asked for it even though I booked just a Deluxe. I've only gotten a view of the pool once and usually get a view of the mountains facing the Palms and Gold Coast.

OK thanks. The view is not important to me whether it be the pool, mountains or Strip, but the Ipanema Tower is with the remodeled rooms, so i'll ask for that.

I slipped the $20. Saved me money overall, she acknowledged the tip, told me what the room would have cost extra otherwise, then pulled two passes from a zippered money bag for Voodoo Lounge and wished me happy birthday.

Awesome tip ! I am at the Rio for the first time in three weeks and was hoping to get a view of the pool, although it's not that important to me. It will be just my wife and I this time with no trip itinerary (Rare). I will try the Jackson sandwich and see where it gets me. I am checking in around midnight on Friday, does anybody know whether this timing will hurt/help with upgrade etc ? Does anyone know if they have smoking rooms in the Ipanema tower ? BTW I looked up Ipanema on Wikipedia... it translates to; Stinky Lake ! I will let you know how it goes.

    Thanks- Chrisby

We are staying at the Rio in 2 weeks. First time we will have a car there. Is one of the towers better for people that park in their garage ? I am thinking I read somewhere that the Masquerade tower was closer to the parking garage.

It is, which is why I've preferred it. Come out of elevators, hang a right, go up escalators towards Chippendales and across the bridge to garage. Usually very easy to get parking on the top floor, right by the bridge, too.

I prefer the Ipanema tower. It's handy to the small parking lot off of Valley View which is a lot easier to get in and out of.
Also closer to the main casino, sportsbook and most of the restaurants I'm interested in.

OK, i have a really dumb question. I usually stay at hotels on the strip and it will be my first time at Rio. I've been going to Vegas since the late 70's, however, for the life of me, i still don't know which Tower is which, is the Ipanema Tower, the one i prefer, the older one and the one with the Voodoo lounge? Or is that the Masquarade Tower? In other words, is the Ipanema the shorter of the two? Is the newer tower, which is taller, the Masquarade?

Masquerade is the taller tower closer to the road. I prefer it as well, but both make me happy. When staying in Ipanema, I've always gotten the view of the Masquerade tower, and it's a great colorful thing to look at when going to sleep/waking up before sunrise. You really can't go wrong unless the room is one that badly needs refreshing. Only had that happen once, and they kindly changed/upgraded me the next morning.

Thanks man. I will probably use the sandwich to make sure my room has been updated. Also, i plan to walk over to Gold Coast for the buffet and open a card. I will do most of my gambling on the strip, but come back to Rio about 11 pm and finish in the Rio casino about 1 am. I plan on using the Shuttle back and forth.

I loved the Rio during the Marnell days; it was my home casino then. Happy to hear CET is putting some money into it again. I may give it another try as I've always really enjoyed the Casino at Rio.
