Can I get my 16yr old into an 18+ show

Our whole family will be on our next trip in April. Three of my kids are of age but my youngest is 16. If we want to see a show with an age restriction of 18, I want to know how they enforce it, or do they even care if accompanied by a parent.

Can we bring him to a comedy show like Carrot Top or Sin City Comedy?

 

we went to see Carrot Top a couple of weeks ago, and I'm fairly certain I actually saw somebody get asked for I.D.

having said that, no judgements being made, but after seeing the show, and laughing my ass off, I can definitely say that its not anywhere near appropriate for a 16 year old.

 

heh, I still remember being 16. There is nothing in a Carrot Top show that isn't trumped every day at High School.

 

have you watched Youtube at all? I'm sure there is nothing that would come as a shock for my 16 year old.

 

I don't think that hotel/casino/ lounge/ entertainment employees are too inclined to look the other way and risk losing a liquor or gaming license for allowing a minor doing anything. When i was filling out an application for a players club, my HS daughter had to walk around a bank of slot machines without stopping; they can only walk through casinos, not stop.

Adults shouldn't be made to feel uncomfortable to enjoy an advertised-to-adults-only show by being in the presence of an underaged person. I would personally be upset and would complain to the ushers.

 

You're gonna get a lot of comments on the should aspect of this matter, though of course you didn't request that. But that's the beauty of shopping here at Opinions-R-Mine. lol

I don't think your question is answerable. I'm sure it's occurred many many times. I'm sure kids have been bumped plenty of times. This is one of those times when all that matters is how it turns out for you and that cannot be predicted.

 

I'd figure that with a parent they'd let it go. Some places let you drink underage with a parent.

 

Call the box office and clarify if the rule is "no under 16 ever" or if it's "no under 16 unless accompanied by an adult"

That said and as the parent of three well adjusted good teens, 14 to 19, there is NOTHING in a Carrot Top show that kids haven't already seen and heard in school or on Youtube. Heck, a show like Jubilee would seem boring and weak, even with the bare boobies.

I can't really think of anything right on the strip that would be "too much" for a 16 yr old, EXCEPT for maybe something like Zumanity
But then again, every kid is different and their exposure to different things vary

 

Jubilee on Saturday night at 7:30pm is not topless and is 13+.

 

Impossible question to answer. If a rule is in place any employee may enforce the rule, ticket taker, usher, security. I walked by all three at the last CT show. You cannot predict if the particular employees working on a said night realize/care/know/look the other way/ etc. on a rules infraction.

You cannot predict the behavior of an unknown entity.

I think a show like Sin City Comedy would be more rigid about restricting minors. Is there a reason why you were drawn to that one? I think there are evening comedy shows with no age restriction. I don't see one listed for The Improv for example.

 

Two years ago I was at Kevin Burke's 18+ show at Fitzgerald's. He spotted an obvious minor in the audience, pointed to him and asked how old he was. The boy said "14", to which Kevin answered "What the F___ are you doing in my show and what the F___ is wrong with your parents?", whom he also pointed at. He wasn't joking, either, and looked genuinely pissed. There was an awkward uncomfortable pause before he resumed his monologue. At that point, his rhythm was shot to hell and the rest of the show stunk. That family got their share of dagger eyes on the way out.

 

Or another way to look at it is if no one was blaming the kid or parents for "ruining" the show before the guy called them out ...

 

He looks just like his older brother and could use his license if we want to go the Mr. Papageorgio route.

Believe me, at 16 they are way beyond their years, and there is nothing he hasn't shown me via youtube or rooster teeth that surprises me anymore. I can't complain, he's a good kid, doesn't 'hang out' anywhere, is pretty geeky, drug free. I know he has a good head and high moral values to discern humor from reality. My only concern on the strip would be those sex pamphlet handouts and getting the idea that Vegas is a good place to 'lose it'. That worries me far more than whatever Carrot Top can come up with or some sexy topless showgirls.

For the sexy girls of course. He's 16 not 6. You remember when you were 16 right? It's all about boobs.

 

Was at a 50 Cent concert at Palms, he stopped the show and asked a parent why they would bring a kid to his show? He asked "Havent you heard my music?" He then went on to say he was going to cuss and swear and do things kids shouldnt see and suggested they leave.

 

VMB members: Raise your hand if you had a drink or pushed boundaries when you were a teenager? …… Thought so.

To answer your question: Yes, you probably can find ways to get around the age restriction.

My issue: There are some shows where I would be uncomfortable sitting next to a 16 year-old.
