Do most casinos drug test mainly hair? How about other jobs in the metro? Security?

I am a heavy medical marijuana user. Please dont hate this thread and comment all the BS. I understand the stigma that comes with it. It helps with my pains, and I stay fair from pain meds, drugs, and alcohol.

But I see moving Vegas, most ask for drug test and hair samples. So my question is how you all get jobs if you use marijuana?

Again, haters can hate and over look. This isnt illegal thread. Vegas is medical marijuana state. I just cant see how you get a job for a hair test. Lets be real, marijuana users use SU for most urine tests. But what about these hair ones? Avoiding casinos? Other jobs taking hair, or swabs of saliva? Thanks in advance to those who take this seriously. Yes, I am medicated.

The last that I heard (and it's been awhile since I heard the info second hand anyway) was that they did urine tests and also background checks (especially in security.)

One or the other would get you, so it may be better to be upfront about it and show that you have a prescription for the medication instead of trying to hide it. It is also part of the application process and, if they found out later that you lied to get the job, that is grounds for termination and would make it harder to find a job in another casino afterwards.

I agree your best bet would be up front, have your authorization with you when you interview and if they have a problem or discriminate against you because of your use you have legal recourse since it is LEGAL in nevada to hold a prescription, and like any other prescribed drug shouldn't hinder your attempt to find employment. If they have a comment about it you can remind them that the Medical Use of Marijuana law as approved by the Nevada Legislature and adopted in 2001.

I couldn't find Nevada's official stance on discrimination but here is Arizona's.

"Discrimination Prohibited: The law provides that employers may not
discriminate against a person in hiring, termination or by imposing any term
or condition of employment or otherwise penalize a person because of that
person's status as a medical marijuana cardholder, unless a failure to do so
would cause an employer to lose a monetary or licensing related benefit
under federal law or regulations. As noted above, medical marijuana
cardholders may include not only patients, but also designated caregivers
and nonprofit medical marijuana dispensary agents. Thus, the law creates a
new category of individuals protected from discrimination.
The law also prohibits discrimination against a registered qualifying patient
based on that person's positive test for marijuana unless the patient was
impaired by marijuana on the employer's premises or during the hours of
employment. While the law does not require an employer to permit an
employee to ingest marijuana at work or to work while under the influence of
marijuana, it also states that a registered qualifying patient is not considered
to be under the influence of marijuana solely because that person tests
positive for marijuana metabolites in an amount that is insufficient to cause
    impairment.

That is a tough one. Even though it is legal even for recreational use now here in Washington, I know several people who have lost their jobs over testing. Their medical prescription does nothing for them because it is still a federal crime. I expect it to start loosening up now that it has been made legal, but when is anyones guess.

When I began working for Station Casinos in 2008, they sent me for a hair follicle drug test AND a urine test. I don't know if they still do that, though. My supervisor at the time told me the hair test is very expensive for the casinos, so maybe they've stopped doing it.

Not that I know practices of various outlets in Vegas, but piss tests are super cheap. We can buy in bulk a multiple drug screen dip for cheap as piss - no pun intended. If a positive is found I would want to use a more robust UTox for any legal/work related issues but for my purposes the dip is fine. The UTox itself is not that expensive either. I have no use for hair testing but they are much cheaper than they were just a handful of years ago.

They dont have to hire people who use medical marijuana.

Think this through. It does impair your judgement. Would you want the head of security or a pilot to be using it in the cockpit or while in a stressful situation that requires quick thinking?

If you honestly say that you would not mind if your pilot is high then you are the one out of everyone else in the world who thinks that way.

If we use the standards that they cant discriminate for any reason then why do we only see young women working at hooters?

Why dont we see 400 lbs personal trainers at the gym?

Pilots and flight attendants are excluded from Medical or even Legal Marijuana use in states where it has been legalized because they are randomly drug tested by the D.O.T. an agency of the federal government and because it is a federal crime they can and will fire any pilot of flight attendant caught using Marijuana even if they live in a state where it is "Legal".

And also those that machine airplane parts ;)

We're governed by Federal laws and no matter what the states say it's still illegal.

Not sure if you consider telling you the truth being a hater but here it is. That guy can post all the state codes he wants but casinos ARE NOT hiring you if you smoke weed with a card or not. First off they are drug testing you and doing a background check. They can come up with whatever reason they want to not hire you from there but they aren't worried about it. There is no state income tax in Nevada because of the revenue generated by casinos. You are not winning a discrimination suit against a casino for not hiring you because you smoke weed regardless of what the law say's I assure you it doesn't apply to them.

The people getting jobs in casino's or other places of employment are not smoking weed, legal or otherwise. Almost every company drug test now, and a lot of companies are now using the saliva swab, right there at the interview.

With the tough job market in Vegas, employers can be very picky, and they do not have to hire anyone if they chose not to.

You might want to re think Vegas for a job. Just my opinion, but I think it might be very, very hard to find employment for you.

    Best of luck to you....

During my last trip to Las Vegas a month ago I met with 2 recruiters for possible contract work within several strip casino properties and 2 large hospitals and found policy to be mixed and really dependent upon the positions which one maybe seeking. All employers are now testing for drugs not just marijuana, but cocaine, heroin, etc. Most utilize urine testing because of cost, Urine cost $7 to $50 per test, Hair $100 to 150 per test, Saliva $15 to $50. and the tests today are hard to cheat. Some people give advice on how to supposedly dilute or adulterate urine samples. Most of these suggestions do not work and are easily identified in the testing process. Even if the specific drug is successfully masked the product or method of tampering itself can be detected.
The one thing I want to add is that before the test you should report any and all drugs (prescription, OTC or otherwise) that are being taken and you may find a silly question like, when was the last time you had a poppy seed bagel.

Good luck if you move forward with trying to find employment with suspected drugs in your system.
