"You have not earned enough points yet, loser"

There's a bad feeling when the slot club or the pit boss tells you that you have not earned enough points for some comp when you expected your play to cover that particular comp, especially when prior similar play has helped you receive that comp.

But the worst is when you have played with your hard-earned money and you sense some disdain with which a players club/host/pit boss tells you that you have not reached some casino benchmark.

Does a negative response of the players club/host/pit boss impact whether you continue to make the attempt to reach that, in some cases, unspoken benchmark that you have yet to reach?

yes, it does. and this is why I know I am right and the casino is wrong in my constant comp battle against the evil empires. This is my evidence they have no clue what they are doing.

these dumbasses spend so much time and effort to trick up their worthless comp clubs with levels from Shit Brown to Puke Emerald to Dusty Diamond, but they can't train their used-car salesman front line dbag staff to be cheerful and empathetic when delivering the "no-comp news".

It is free, and it would make SUCH a HUGE difference.

Actually come to think of it, I"m wrong to compare casino hosts to used-car salesmen. Used car salesmen don't deserve that insult. :Þ

The used car salesmen are at least smart enough to say "well I'm with you Bob but I gotta see if I can talk the Manager into it. give me your drivers license so he knows your serious and I'll see what I can do".

These hosts stand on their fancy tip toes like pepe le pew, turn their heads slightly and look down their noses from on high while they geech in the whiniest Judge Smales wife voice ever "Oh good lord you foolish tripe, we couldn't possibly give you a line pass for a fully paid buffet when you only lost 2 of your 3 kids college funds at the tables today, we aren't running a soup kitchen here"....

 

Being turned down for a comp is never fun, and how I handle it depends on the circumstances. If the pit critter says I just need to put in a little more time, and if I was going to continue playing for a while anyway, it's no big deal. However, if I've already stopping playing or decided it's time to quit, I won't continue. Playing for comps seldom works out the way you'd like. Fortunately, I usually have a pretty good feel for these things, and don't get rejected often. When I have been turned down, I've sometimes moved to a different pit area and gotten the comp right away! It's just like talking to the airlines and many other businesses. When you don't get the answer you want, try asking someone else!

I have always thought that the frontliners have a lot to do with how much people want to keep trying and keep patronizing in the future to the same extent. I always wonder where the disdain comes from...I always ask politely.

Where do you typically play?

 

The vast majority of my play is at all 7 of the Vegas Boyd/Coast properties, mostly BJ.

 

There was one pit boss at Gold Coast that handled it quite well. In a kind manner, he told me that if I put in a couple more hours, he could take care of me. I think all customer service people should tell a person kindly that they lose.

I just so kindly...put in 5 more hours.

 

I have never asked for one and would be shocked if they offered me a comp. i am lucky I get the free beer I get.

I HATE that BS thing where the car salesman pretends he has to talk to a manager. If you can't make a deal with me, get the eff out of the way and let me talk to an adult. At least when I'm talking to a host I feel like I'm talking to someone with a modicum of authority to say yes.

There's a rule of negotiation -- never take no from someone not authorized to say yes.

Sorry, off topic, but just a peeve.

 

As a rule, in the pit you're going to get back from people in attitude what you put in. You're there, you're interacting with them, and they get all kinds.

There are people who have bad attitudes and don't interact well, but they're in a group, so there's some pressure for them to act right. When you get the host, it's just one on one, so you're going to get a wider variance.

With that said, I don't go to the duty host for anything anymore. I'll call my guy on the phone before I do that.

 

Having been a new and used car salesman for a couple of years let me tell you this one thing when they pull this one on you, just walk away and tell them you are doing so, the salesman will trip over his feet to catch up and will suddenly not need that manager. Most times honest to God the salesman really has no idea, especially on used, what PAC he is dealing with, that is unless they have tried to sell the same vehicle before, then he knows EXACTLY what he can do. If he follows he knows though and knows he can damn sure lose the sale, you then have the upper hand in negotiating a price, never settle on payments thats the oldets trick in the book. The time I spent doing that business has saved us around 12G on the last three cars and one motorcycle we have bought since that time, not the best job to work but damn sure worth it for the knowledge I gained on the business.
Far as asking for comps go, never have done so myself always take whats been offered so really have not needed to ask.

 

We usually don't request stuff until the end of the trip. When they only took an item or two off the bill we were a bit pissed. Even requested to talk to the head host. After about 15 minutes of BS she eventually showed me her computer screen and I can she her point but her BS was making it cloudy.


What about thinking you are racking up comps only find you just got kicked in the groin???? My wife is playing an older machine at .50/spin and I am playing a brand new machine at $3.00/spin. After racking up about 100 points I asked my wife what she was up to thinking it was probably 10. To my surprise she was at something like 60. Basically you get comped differently at MLife whether you are playing the older or newer machines. That was a rude awakening.

Even though I had much more coin in than my wife in their eyes we really weren't that much different which does hurt the comps.

 

Never ask for a comp in a loud voice that everyone can hear. If my table is full, I'll step aside and nod for him to come over and then ask. When you ask at a full table it makes it harder for him to comp you because everyone else will start asking him also.

BTW, I was told this by a pit boss.

 

what kind of comps do you ask for? Food? Also do you know if the comps they give you take away your points? Like for CET you get tier credits/reward credits; if you ask for lets say a food comp will they remove your reward credits?

 

Usually I ask for dinner, breakfast comps or early check-in if it's around 4am or so. I have no idea about points being taken off.

 

Absolutely... my father-in-law taught me that.

 

If you intend to ask for something at the table (for me it's an upgrade to a normally uncomped liquor, usually) there are a few tricks.

First, play as much as possible with the same pit boss. If you're staying multiple days and you play a lot, just look for the guys you recognize when you're selecting your table. This way they know your play and may be able to comp you earlier. Plus, for a guy like me who only wants a semi decent glass of whiskey, if he gave it to my yesterday it's pretty sure he's giving it to me today, probably without me asking.

Second, be a tipper. If the crew likes you at a craps table, the boss is under more pressure to take care of you because you're taking care of them.

Third, let the CW help you. Ask for what you want when she comes for your order, away from the table a bit if possible. If you want a drink she can't cover, ask her if she'll ask for you. Also, this goes back to being in the same section of the casino. CWs repeat. So now you're playing the next day and you just started, but you see the same CW who was bringing you high end stuff the day prior. She's going to bring it again. I've had this work on consecutive trips.

Fourth, remember people. If you come back on another trip, the pit boss isn't likely to remember you six months later unless something stands out about you. But if you remember him, or the crew, they'll pick up on it and know that you're a 'regular.' I've found this helps.

 

What is really weird is when you find out that you have earned a comp after someone told you that you did not have enough play.

 

Weird like finding money is weird.

I once got comped 2 days after I got home. My host credited a bunch of stuff back to my credit card. It was like hitting quads without having to play.
