This was just amazing to us. We went to several bars/restaurants in Scottsdale, AZ and they have off track betting on the ponies at all the major tracks, inside the bars.

    What a combination...local bar/drinks, horse racing & betting!:poke:

Not that I would do this, but "someone" picked up losing tickets worth over $700 for losing racing tickets to deduct against Vegas winnings. They just left the losing tickets lay there on the table.:wink2:

I know NY has OTB, but I didn't know that was legal anywhere else, especially in a BAR!:poke:

Off track betting is allowed in many states. Here in Calif. I believe that a couple of them are in bars. We play the horses almost every day right from our house via the computer. It's been legal for years.

I always forget how fortunate we are to be able to hit a bar and bet on the horse racing around New Zealand and Australia, & sports around the world.

As for the losing tickets - everyone throws them away here. No tax on winnings so no need to be able to prove the losses. Perhaps a holiday down here would be worthwhile so you could go home with a suitcase of losses:wink2:

Arizona is a messed up state. No ADWs and try sending a Western union for more than $500. Illinois is not too far behind.
Bar/restaurant/OTB combinations are common in Illinois.

There are two racinos here in Indiana, I go up to ours on Fri's about every other week. Our losing tickets just sit beside us or in an empty bar glass. If someon really wanted them, they could just come up and take them. Tickets are littered all over the tables and bar up there.

We also have an OTB downtown Indianapolis as well.

It's not like the bookie days, you deposit the money before you can make a bet.

The OTB parlors in NYC shut down a few years ago because they were unprofitable. Former mayor Guliani said it best: "the only bookie jointing the City that lost money".
