Neon Boneyard Tour & Downtown Planning Itinerary

So the spring schedule for the Neon Boneyard has finally opened up to make resrvations and I kinda want to jump on it because by the time I planned to go on my last trip tickets were sold out. I have a few questions.

We have already planned to go downtown on the Friday night we are there. Originally I said we should do the tour Saturday afternoon, but would it make more sense to do it before exploring downtown that night. Their last tour is at 6pm. I was thinking to book maybe at 4:30-5pm? Is this a good idea? I really want to maximize the time we have in Vegas (5 days).

Is it close to Fremont street? Like walking distance? I read that the museum is, but the boneyard is in a different location? Am I correct with that information?

Also we plan on taking the WAX bus to downtown. Is there a stop near the boneyard?

Also thinking a little ahead of myself last time we didn't do too much on Fremont the first go around except drunkenly spent a good amount of time trying to buy a sweatshirt and fried Oreos, along with drinking in the open and listening to the band play. We did do the zipline a few days later though. I would like to do more casino wandering and we will probably do dinner there. Thinking of buying the ACG to use some free slot play coupons maybe a 2 for 1 buffet coupon. One friend definitely wants to do the zipline (she didn't last time, I may do the casino stuff while she does this)

So time wise when should we go downtown to accomplish everything without feeling rushed?

Also places to eat a good but not too expensive meal would be helpful to put a coating in our bellies for an expected drunken night

Hit downtown around 3 and you can grab some of the happy hour specials at 777 in the Main Street Casino. They aren't as good a value as they used to be, but you still get some solid appetizers for a reasonable price. $2.50 microbrews are nice too

4:30 should be okay for the neon museum. The tour took about an hour. I do not recommend walking from Fremont. It's not far, but you will encounter a fair amount of homeless folk and grafitti. I'm not sure if the bus will get you there, but it should be a cheap cab ride. Else, you might consider renting a car. You can get to all kinds of cool stuff that way.

By the time you get back from the boneyard the bands should be playing on Fremont.

Thanks! I don't mind walking, I live and work in NYC so I encounter strange, partially deranged and shady homeless people everyday on the subway. I'll see what my two other friends think about it. I'm so immune to the homeless vagrants that when they try and talk to me I literally don't acknowledge them and keep walking. I do the same when men try and "holler" at me, tisk tisk

I'll look up your suggestion for Flame. As a note that day we will have In n Out burger for lunch.

 

really the homeless are probably waaaay less than what you are used to seeing in NYC. They arent that bad at all, people just like to make a big deal about it.

As for food DT, I love love love the Triple 7 brew pub in Main Street Station. MSS is off of Fremont a block or so, but nothing crazy, its just down and to the right of the Plaza. The brew pub there has some really good food and plenty of choices. Its no more expensive than eating at a sit down restaurant back home. I really like their steak nacho dip, we get it as an app every time, but its dang near a full meal in itself. There are other places to eat, some more expensive like Hugos and Binions Steakhouse, some cheaper like Chicagos pub and Magnolias in 4Queens as well. There is also a Hash House a GO GO in the Plaza which is different but delicious as well! Have fun!!

 

Ah as long as the homeless are harmless I don't mind. An unsafe walk due to violence/crime in the area would be different.

Thanks for you suggestions, I keep reading about MSS and the 777 but people are usually 50/50 with those places. Although I could be tempted to consider if they have different kinds of beer on tap or even a microbrew. I didn't realize there's a Hash House in downtown. I already have breakfast plans for there on the strip one day, but there Lunch/Dinner menu looks good too

The 777 is a brewpub. They usually have 6 or 7 quality brewed on the premesis beers on tap.

Hawaian coupons are meal tickets that are part of the tours from Hawaii to Las Vegas. Because of these tours you will see many Hawaians in the Boyd casinos downtown, especially California. This also means that the eateries in these casinos offer Hawaian dishes, like the Oxtail Soup that I often enjoy late night at the Cal in the Market St Cafe.

The neon graveyard is an easy walk from downtown. If you are concerned about safety it's a very busy street and you should have no problems. If you're from NYC you'll think it's a regular stroll.

Let us know what you think of the tour. I thought it was great and the actual visitor's center wasn't even open yet when I went.

I will also have to say the 777 brewpub is pretty good.

 

Too bad the Neon Boneyard doesn't run a shuttle. We don't enjoy walking through rough areas but don't want to pay for a taxi either.

 

I have done the tour both before and after the visitor center opened. It was good before, but it's even better now! The current tour is longer (time), better laid out, and offered more background info.

 

Sounds exciting. I love when I took a Grand Canyon tour last year the tour guide was so knowledgeable, I love learning historical things! It also helped considering it was a 14 hour tour. I defintiely want to learn more about the Vegas History!
