Packing...

I am having the hardest time packing for Vegas. Why is that? I want to look good, be comfortable and have fun.

What do you pack for Vegas?

 

Items typically forgotten by me...

Cell phone/tablet/laptop charger
Lint roller
Sun Screen (though you probably don't need it there right now)
Sunglasses
Eye Drops
Some mini bottles of alcohol for the flight there
One of the 10 million souvenir cups from the previous trips to take advantage of refill prices hehe and so you don't have to buy yet ANOTHER one

 

I could move up there and still have to go pick up something I forgot.

 

most important item: comfortable running/walking shoes

 

A couple rolls of quarters for the drink machine.

 

Always bring all my players cards. I feel like it's bad luck to get replacements

 

The pop machines take dollars

 

Knowing that looking good won't happen anyway, I find packing remarkably easy. 1-2 slightly dressier outfits, and the rest very casual according to the temps I'm expecting. Yep, its attack of the cargos.

 

I'm already planning and my trip's not for 6 weeks yet. The last two nine-day trips, we went with a roller carry-on and personal bag each and were fine. But this year, we got classic seats on Frontier (for less than economy) and can each bring 2 suitcases plus a carry-on. Hubby says no-way to checked luggage - he likes getting off the plane and hitting the car rental shuttle in minutes. I love the idea of bringing everything I "might" need or want.

 

I also believe Frontier charges $20-$25 per checked bag, but that is possibly included with your classic seats. We are flying Frontier home and will have to pay to check our 1 bag we always check.

 

The ones at The STRAT take credit/debit cards, too. I am pretty sure most do nowadays.

That's cool. First trip was a week. This one is for nine days. Would love to just do carry one, but I think my clothes are too big.

 

I have a Vegas check list that I print out each trip and update the list if something good needs to be added.

The list is great because it helps to prevent forgetting those little items.

 

I never have enough dollars. Luckily I have a roll of quarters in my suitcase.

 

I do this too!! Time to pull my list out and double check that I have everything.

I'm leaving tomorrow and our Feb trips are always the hardest since you have to pack for both the outside temps and the casino temps (which I usually find on the warm side).

Luckily the forecast is looking pretty good for this weekend so it shouldn't be too bad.

 

Another use for those quarters,hold in fist.

Time share guy tries to intimidate you physically, POP, he aint gettin up for a while.

 

I use an app called SimplyPack+ on my ipad and have a running list that I can pull up and then check off items as I pack them. It still takes me WAY TOO long to pack! I'm not sure what it is. I'm probably overly anal and there is not doubt that I overpack. But here's a few things from my list that are commonly forgot:

Make mail arrangements (I always forget to tell the neighbors till either just before or after we are there), wash out pet food bowl (so they won't be full of ants when we get back), Power adapters (of course), car adapters if renting/driving, My prescription glasses for when I take out my contacts, a belt (if I'm not wearing on the plane), headphones, travel wireless access point in case hotel only has wired internet (ipad has no wired network), Light jacket (gets chilly at night even in Vegas), Binoculars/opera glasses for shows or canyon/mountain trips, lugage scale (I'm always near limits)

I'm still in awe of you guys that can take any trip longer than a weekend with just carry-on. We've done a few of the junkets to Biloxi on the charter jet and its SO nice just walking off the plane with everything and never letting it out of your sight. But there is no way I can make a 5+ day trip on just carry-on. I'd really like to see how that's done and how it works when on location.

 

I too make a detailed packing list so I don't forget things. I haven't forgotten anything critical yet.

I am going for 5 nights on this next trip - it will be a struggle to do carry-on, but I will find a way. Plus I am moving from Bellagio to Caesars, and then Caesars to the Mirage - I guess I would feel kind of ridiculous about getting a taxi to take me to the casino next door - so I guess I'm going to be hiking my luggage down the strip - so definitely another reason to pack as light as possible.

 

You should most certainly not feel rediculous about that. Much like living in the country, on the Vegas stip "next door" could be a few miles away. With anything but "carry-on only" I wouldn't think twice about cabbing it to most adjacent casinos. Especially when you tack on the trek you'll likely have to make once inside each casino. That or we almost always make sure our rental car days cover our hotel change days in most cases.
