You're pulling our leg right? For the record I don't go camping. I hate bugs and especially getting dirty!

I don't know what he meant, but yes, you get points for paying your bill at check out. I think it is one point for every five dollars paid.

Yes, my points are for any CET property. The reason i stayed at IP was for the $20 a night for 5 nights. I NEVER gambled at IP, didn't in Nov. and never in all my years in Vegas. I never liked IP as a gambling destination.....JMO. My plan was, as solo, staying at a cheap place and gambling at Bally's, Paris, Planet Hollywood, and Flamingo (the last casino before returning for the night at IP).
The card is valuable on any CET property. You need to sign in with password then check out the deals or just review the calender dates for the time you plan on staying there. I NEVER gamble or spend my money without my card as long as it's a CET property. I would always check out Bellagio, Mirage, Mandalay Bay, etc. because it's Vegas, but when it comes time to gamble and dine i always use my CET TR card.
The bottom line is when i go back in a couple of months i am comped at Bally's or almost comped at Planet Hollywood. Some people prefer MiLIFE card as opposed to CET cards, but i'd rather not give them money for resorts fees.
Like i said, i enjoy being in Vegas, i love VEGAS baby..........and try to hit as many places from Mandalay Bay up to Wynn.........but i use my TR card ONLY in CET properties because i like the rewards given to me. I don't gamble at every CET property like IP/the Quad or Rio, but knowing that my TR card was put to good use, in this case IP by staying there, got me back to being comped at much nicer resorts like Bally's, Paris, and PHO

I don't need to deliberately choose a dump hotel, as I've already had the experience of staying in the one that was the absolute in all of Vegas - the Ogden House (now the Cabana Suites). The regular rooms at the El Co were overbooked and that's where we were shipped off to.
Bear in the mind, I had also recently stayed in the Gold Spike, prior to its extensive rehabbing. That place was a dive, but nothing compared to the drab, dank and putrid rooms of the Ogden House. Additionally, I spent another night on top of Mt. Charleston camping.
My actual comfort level was as follows:
    1. Gold Spike
    2. camping
    3. Ogden House

Ya, its a decent place. I dont mind it. If you want to be picky I guess you can say because of the price it tends to cater to the young crowd/drunks and coming home early in the morning the hallways will be trashed with bottles and trash all over. Other then that its pretty good :)

I looked up the electronic pest repeller you mentioned on eBay. I bought 2. A wall plug in one. And an arm band one. Can't hurt and didn't cost much.

Our first trip we didn't eat at a lot of the cheaper places out of fear. We drank all the cheapo $1 beers and margs. But, wouldn't eat. The 2nd trip I went a little wild and had the Ellis Island steak special and it was good. This past trip we made a hobby out of hitting all the cheap, low roller places that get no respect on message boards (see my signature). I can't wait to try more and maybe even go a little lower.

In terms of hotels, the lowest I've gone in Vegas is Gold Coast and 4 Queens. And they were perfectly fine. I don't know how brave I want to be in terms of hotels. Hopefully I have many years of low rolling ahead of me to find out.

I respect people in here who dare to low roll and share the experience in here. I have a tremendous respect for Sam, Dewey and Sco. I think low rolling in Vegas is good fun and harmless. The 5 star hotel and restaurant crowd has their jollies and we have ours.

Good for you Sam. I can't wait to read the report and see the pics.

good luck finding cheap rates anywhere. you're right in the thick of nascar week.

I booked (a month ago) a nights stay at the quad for march 8. I booked the el cortez vintage rooms for march 10 - 16 but don't have a room for march 9 yet. for march 9 even the dumps are expensive, guess that's because of nascar going on. I may end up at the hojo near the airport but hoping to find something quieter elsewhere.

I have comped rooms at Paris for 3 nights, but Allegiant only flies outta here (AZ) with a limited schedule and I need another place to stay for my first of 4 nights in Vegas.
So I chose some cheap crappy room at the Luxor. I'll be arriving late, leaving for Paris at 11am, and only need the room to sleep in. Got it because I hardly ever make it down to the South end of the strip. This way I can play at Mandalay Bay and Trashy Castle, get hammered down there, then head back to my campsite with the bugs and stuff at the Luxor when I am ready to call it a night.

I too am traveling solo and don't mind 'camping out' for 1 night.
Just don't tell my friends. :nono:

For me , it's what I'm going for. If its a just for fun quick trip, the IP is fine. It's cheap and right in the middle.

But for the birthday trip and my upcoming wedding, I will definitely be staying at nicer places.

Well, as the person who started this thread, I feel it's only appropriate to post the end result of my adventure. And it was absolutely horrendous. I had no problems with the construction or checking in. But the filthy condition of the elevators, corridors, and my room were beyond unforgivable. Absolutely the most repulsive stay I've ever had in the city, and this was my third or fourth time staying at the former Imperial Palace as well. I posted my review on TripAdvisor, along with several photos of my room and the filthy hallways. It really has to be seen to be believed.

Oh dear! That's not good at all. We did get a dirty room once, asked to be moved and got a decent one. I may have to rethink our $5 Saturday in April.

Spot on about why they would dump millions into to the front of the property yet the rooms look like this? That bathroom... oh my!

    Thanks for reporting back, Sam.

I think I read you're no longer happy with the Plaza. Where will your next stay be?

Oh, I see it's the Rio!

I'm sorry to hear about that Sam. It's a shame it's not cheap but clean anymore. Thanks for taking one for the team. I look forward to your next review.

I'll never stop loving Vegas. But my dollars spend just as well at places that care about their guests as those that don't. Thanks for the support.:nworthy:
