    Cash, check, wire transfer?

I've deliberately avoided getting a marker to avoid the inherent temptation.

Prefer to instead always take a finite amount/win or lose.

TIA (and good luck to all!).

All cash, but under typical marker/credit levels... I wouldn't be afraid to bring an almost infinite amount of cash, I just don't have it. It doesn't make me nervous because I'm near OCD with keeping it secure and knowing where it is. Plus I'd only ever bring what I could lose so worst case all is well.

    Just my humble opinion...

I've been going the cash route too; but it seems more of a hassle now though flying post-911.

Wondering about check writing...and if you can always get what you want.

    : )

Researched doing a wire transfer to MGM, but learned it's very restrictive: apparently you can only take out a relatively small percentage at a time (like 10% - 15% or so, if what my Host said was accurate)...so you'd have to make a lot of trips to the cage over the span of a trip.

What makes it more difficult post 9/11? I put the bag it is in in a bag and have it Inbetween my two trays. Then as long as you don't have something in your pocket you're there waiting for it. I then check its there in the dressing area so I can cause a stink within a minute of the theft and I've never had a problem...

What temptation? A credit line is finite as well. Just open it for the amount you are willing to lose. Same as bringing that much cash.

I had a line a while back at Wynn but stopped playing on them because I like being able to play anywhere I'm in the mood for. I take cash to both Vegas and locally here. Never had the slightest problem carrying over 10k or higher.

I bring some in cash, some in travelers checks and leave some in my bank that I can access at the ATM.

OP did not mention the amount.

But, even $10,000 in cash is no big deal to just carry with you. Some in pocket. Some in carry on.

9/11 has nothing to do with it.

(by the way, this topic comes up every 2 weeks, over and over. I do not get why people have trouble carrying cash)

I bring cash and just have it in my pocket while travelling. I keep in my pockets going through the scanners at the airport and have never once had a problem.

Why bring so much cash? There are ATMS and banks everywhere in Vegas. I usually only bring $400-500 in cash and hit the ATM if necessary.

Being from out of country usually means some hefty ATM fees. Also if I bring my entire budget down with me in cash I am more likely to stick to it.

I subscribe to the Randy Moss school of thought.

As others have said, I just don't understand the fear of carrying cash. But everyone's gotta do it in the manner in which they're most comfortable.

That makes perfect sense. I've heard the ATM fees can be quite outrageous.

    TSA full body scanners.

Can't indiscreetly walk through a metal detector with a hidden jeweler's pouch containing your bankroll like before.

Now you have to remove the pouch and put it through the scanner, first remove the bankroll from the pouch, wad up your cash in your fist and stand with your arms up in the full body scanner.

I bring cash. I have a metal hip replacement and get searched almost every time I travel, now about 40 flights since I got it almost 5 years ago. If I'm going solo I carry it in my hands in wads in folded envelopes with rubber bands about $15K. I hold it while I'm getting searched. If I'm traveling with someone, I put my cash in the bottom of my carry-on. I wait until my friend is through the scanner and have my friend watch my carry-on it and pick it out of the scanner while I'm being searched. It's not a big deal. I get a kick our of people asking about carrying $1 or $2K, Benjamins fit nicely in a wallet too.

OK, so walk me through that please (as I've never done this obviously).

Say you open a line for 10K for that trip and blow through it, so for the next trip, do you have to go through the whole credit process again and open a new line each trip? (Losing trips presumed in this example.)

On the other hand, what if you turned the 10K into say 20K?

Can you keep some on deposit--or do you just wire it all back to your checking account?

    TIA.

I usually take about 1k on me and hit the ATM for the rest of the trip. I consider the $5 atm fee everytime I hit it as part of expense of being on vacation.
I usually take everything out of my pocket except the cash and go through the scanner and never had a problem.

I put my cash in a back pack carry on with a TSA combination lock locking the zippers. I will split up the cash in three or four desperate locations like in a pants pocket, in a folder, in a wallet or something. It is doubtful the TSA even opens the backpack or goes through process of opening the lock. I will also carry some in my wallet too. You could always just carry it on you in a rubber band if you go through metal detector leave it in pocket, if you go through scanner hold it in hand. I just don't like waving a couple grand for others to see.

This is what we do as well: take $1000 in cash and then just use ATMs as we need more money.

If you "shop around" you can find ATMs that charge less than $5 to use, but we don't really go out of our way to save a little just use them if they are available, IE: I am not going to walk three blocks or spend $15-20 on a cab ride to save $5. If you take out $1000 and have to pay a $5 transaction fee that works out to being only a 0.5% charge... I get screwed by my bank worse than that on the exchange rate :) :) :)

This question is often asked and the high rollers always say they carry 10k+ in cash with no problems.

I carry no cash at all. This way I dont lose it finding things in my pockets or if im lucky to lay down on the plane. The ATM right near baggage is 2.5$. So I make that stop first. I have two checking accounts that have no atm fees but only allow 500$ in 24 hours so if I need more the next day ill use another card. If im good 500$ will last me 3-4 days, unless i visit a stripclub :)
