Finally, video of the elusive "Deluxe" (a.k.a. "Tiny") Cabana Suites at the El Cortez. The front desk clerk tried to talk me out of staying there twice, then finally added a note that I specifically requested the room so she wouldn't get in trouble with her supervisor.

The room still has most of the features of the other suites: the mini-fridge, HDTV, the coffee maker. What it doesn't have is any leftover space. There's a chair under the desk but I don't know how you're expected to use it.

There is only one advantage this suite has over the others, and that is if you like watching TV in bed. In all the suites, the TV is mounted on the wall opposite the bed. That leaves a massive distance in the Super suite, but it's a nice plus for the Deluxe suite.

I would never stay in this room with another person for more than one night. It's nicer than a Microtel but you would always be getting in the other person's way, and eventually on each other's nerves. For a single traveller who doesn't use the room for more than sleep and watching TV in bed, it's great. But you'll still probably be able to get a Junior suite for the same price or get upgraded at the front desk.

I've stayed in the deluxe room 3 or so times and it was just perfect for one person. The furnishings are great quality and the atmosphere made me feel spoiled for the price.

    I love those rooms

I've stayed in 6207 (across the hall) on two different solo trips. Those "Deluxe" suites are perfect for the solo traveler.

So true. Love the rooms, furnishings, and staff. And I also don't know how you could ever really sit comfortably at that desk for more than about 5 min.

Thinking of staying in a Vintage room next month just to try it. Have no idea what I'm in for. Only seen pics. Any opinions?

I was comfortable in the Vintage room until I found myself at 2 AM sandwiched between two televisions dueling through the thin walls.

Remember the trick on avoiding the stairs with luggage when going to Vintage. Take the Pavillion elevator up to the Second floor, turn the corner to the left and enter the unmarked door. That gives you just a half dozen steps down to most of the Vintage rooms.

Because of noise I don't stay at Pavillion or Vintage anymore. I love Cabana but often I end up at the Gold Spike where there is free wifi and a pool for about what it costs for Cabana, even with resort fee. Keep in mind that the American Casino Guide will allow you to book a 2 for 1 at El Cortez and for $20 extra they will let that room be Cabana. Two nights for $54 total is a good price.
Still, there is a discounter that has nights at Gold Spike for just $20 plus the $9 resort fee and you don't have to count how many nights were booked that month. (However, there may be a cancellation fee built into that deal.) El Cortez limits us to 7 nights in a calendar month or adds $25 a night to the booking.

Thanks for the advice, Dewey089! Good to know about the thin walls in Vintage rooms. Appreciate it.

I know the cabana suites are nicely remodeled but I would rather stay in the vintage rooms instead of the deluxe rooms at the cabana suites. but that's JMHO.

I feel claustrophobic in those deluxe rooms, would rather stay in the vintage rooms and have room for a chair and table to (eat and) sit while watching tv (in the cabana deluxe suites there is only a small pull out chair so you end up watching tv from your bed most of the time).

btw, the rooms at the cabana suites aren't that quiet either. I faced the motel next door and had to hear the people there at all hours of the night also. Guess they had a number of rooms so were going between rooms all the time, even at 4 in the morning.

I haven't had many problems with noise in the vintage rooms. I did hear the neighbors tv on (a little) but I guess I was lucky, in my many stays there the neighbors didn't blast their tv's and didn't run them at all hours of the day or night. Of course you could always ask to move rooms. Once I had a room facing west, they had some kind of party thing that weekend in the open lot across the el cortez and was blasting music until 3 am. I couldn't move that night (sold out) but was able to move rooms the next morning to a quieter side. Btw, the east and south sides face nightclubs so during the warmer times it can get noisy at night also.

I like the vintage rooms, very convenient to the parking lot and easy to get in and out of the el cortez. I also asked for a fridge and within minutes of calling they delivered a fridge.

thanks for shooting the vid andy. It gives everyone an idea on how smallish those deluxe suites are. yes, if you can get a free upgrade I would highly recommend it but I don't think I want to stay in those deluxe suites again if possible.

You almost are talking me into another try at the Vintage. I had exactly the same cozy feeling and I too like small. What happened to me is that the 7 day limit rule, when it was first imposed, kicked back an already confirmed 9 days reserved, and I had to rut around to decide what to do.
I ended up at the Gold Spike and I liked it.
Rooms at either place are not rooms where gambling pays the bill for me. The gambling is much better at the El Cortez, but I just play limit poker there and that counts for nothing. In fact, they never even know I am there.
My VP bankroll is invested at the Four Queens and they sure do me well with three comped weekend nights, cash back, freeplay, and generally food/show deals. Then I get those 2 for 1 offers from the D based on some video poker play, but that generally means weekday rooms for about $20 night. I like to couple those with the free Four Queens weekends so check in/out is easy with little rolling of luggage to the next place. And this next time I may end up at the Four Queens using the Binions poker room rate because that does not affect my play statistics on VP at the Four Queens.

I don't gamble at the Spike either. I think the rooms are as comfortable as Cabana with the added benefit of the pool (heated last November) the wifi and television that has more stations, including the one I watch if I am exhausted or sick, Turner Classic Movies. I hate commercials. If you are playing and hope to get comped, the El Cortez is better than the Gold Spike, but if you know you are paying, I think the Spike is the better deal especially if you want to swim daily.

Then this year I intend to stay up at Eastside Cannery for a few days and catch the Latin show in the lounge there on Monday , and the Toast of the Town show at Sam's Town on Thursday. They now also give free wifi, have a pool, and give $10 off the rack rate for seniors. I'm hoping that having a room there will let me get a good nap so I can make the entire sets on Monday night of Claudia Castro and then have an easy stumble up to the room. Also, I may use the location as a good starting point to explore Henderson. The Eastside Cannery is always quiet, and the high level rooms give great views in floor to ceiling glass. They also have a coin laundry so I can freshen up my clothes in the middle of my 25 day trip.

So, I may not make the El Cortez at all on my next trip. But perhaps my second trip I'll use the 2 for 1 coupon and try the Vintage again just to see if I can get lucky and get quiet.

I had heard about the noise from one side of the Cabana and asked not to be there on my stay. It is nice there to have the refrigerator.

We didn't hear as much as a mouse fart when we stayed there in April. Very quiet, especially street noise wise being toward the end of Ogden- not much traffic that far down.

Nah, I don't want to disappoint you with another bad experience at the vintage rooms, trust your gut and stay where you feel the most comfortable. I have lower (meaning NO, lol) standards so I go with the lower end places and don't expect that much other than a safe place to stay.

I never gamble at the spike and is a reason I don't stay there, at least I do some gambling at the EC and so it is possible that I could get a comped room from my (limited) play.

As I mentioned, it wasn't that difficult to get a fridge in the vintage rooms (I wondered how they would carry the thing up the stairs), I guess they may have some in a closet on that floor, they just rolled it in on a cart and left the cart with me.

From discussions on this forum (thanks guys!) I found the laundromat a few blocks (not easy walking distance IMHO) from the EC. They have different sized washing machines so my weeks worth of clothes could fit in the smallest washing machine. The place is clean and wasn't busy during the week day (maybe 5 people in the whole place).

I also am disappointed that the EC charges a fee if you stay longer than 7 days, next march I am going up for a bowling tournament and wanted to stay 9 nights, I guess I will have to break up my stay to 5 nights at one place and 4 at another. Would rather just stay in one place and don't want to worry about packing and moving in between my stay. :Þ

The motel directly behind the Cabana Suites had all the windows and doors boarded up this last trip. I'm pretty sure they were still in business when we were there in January. I believe the long-term goal of the El Cortez was to put in a pool, so maybe now they're one step closer?

Glad we did not stay in that room back in April. We chose the king tower room i think. It was a south view, top floor, mostly quiet and a good sized room for two of us. Yes it's dated but not bad to stay in. Our only issues were being woken up at fourish by a group of friends who had the rooms on either side of ours and having our sink back up on our very last night of our stay. I would stay there again. Loved the service and had good food as well.

We had three free nights in a Deluxe last year. I wouldn't choose it, but it saved us about $50 on the cost of the flight, plus not having to pay for a room. Bargain!

The Junior suite is much nicer. We have spent several days in one of these, and thought they were awesome for the price.
