If you have several days to spend in Vegas but no real plans how would you break up the walking? (I hope that makes sense)

We are staying near Freamont and have 6 days yet no real plans except some want to gamble and some want to shop.

I would get a bus pass and break up the walking bu taking the bus to break up the walking. Eg...one day take the bus to CP and walk south, the next day get dropped at Strat or CC and walk south to Mirage. Use it to skip over areas you've already walked and have no desire to re-walk.

Next time I go I'm seriously considering renting a car. Dollar supposedly has the best rates out there.

I think we will follow your lead and do that for a couple two or three days.

Rental car rates vary all the time. There is no one company that consistently offers the best rates. I wrote up a bunch of car rental tips for my blog that might save you some dough and some aggravation. If you follow the link from my signature below and click on Tips and Tricks in the top menu it should come right up.

So, you are staying near downtown? Exact location may help others help you. Still, the vast majority (not all) of the folks here tend to stay on strip. And there are lots of ways to walk 5 miles a day out there.

If you are downtown, your location could be an issue, safety speaking.

And to many, walking those bridges down the strip can be a gauntlet of timeshare hustlers and photostatues, downtown less so.

You probably won't notice the walking when you're downtown, however, down on the Strip, ooo-wee! I seem to recall there is a tram that runs between Excalibur and ??? (someone on the board help out here!) and you could also jump on the monorail, though it's a bit of a hike from the monorail stations to the different casino gambling areas. Of course, it's a bit of a hike most anywhere on the Strip. We got all-day monorail passes last time we were there and had fun checking out the backsides of the casinos and hopping on and off...

    Free monorail runs are:

    1) Mandalay Bay - Luxor - Excalibur
    2) Monte Carlo - Aria - Bellagio
