Looking forward to seeing Steve Winwood Nov 9 at the Pearl Concert Theater. This will be the first time attending a concert in Vegas, although we have attended several shows. It is also our first visit to the Palms (we are staying at Paris). Any recommendations or things to be aware of regarding cab availability or other transpo to Palms. Restaurants or other things not to miss while at the Palms?

Mostly I'm just happy to be seeing little Stevie Winwood and wanted to see my countdown - but I always welcome the sage advice of fellow VMBers.

Steve Winwood is great.. but just dont expect to hear much of his 80's stuff. He set consists of traffic stuff and one or two 80's things.

I had free tickets to see him at the Borgata in NJ a bunch of years ago and my wife was excited because she knows his 80's things... but she was let down completely because she didnt know his older stuff... she actually left during the show to do more slotting...

You're gonna have a great time in The PEARL, it's one of my
favorite venues for music in Las Vegas...it's pretty cool.

It's not too big, sound is great as are the views however...
as in any showroom, the far LEFT 'N RIGHT sections can limit
your view. I've always been mid roomish/center and it's been great.
The first rear sections off the floor look real good too.

I've stayed/played at the PALMS since it open and have really liked it.
These days...it's a very different PALMS. Maloof is all but out of the
picture, lots of restaurant and other changes going on...hope it's put
back together by the time you guys get there. It was a mess earlier
this month when I was there.

When The PEARL opened, I was very excited. I knew the layout of the
joint pretty well and couldn't think of WHERE? they would put a concert
venue. Walking in the first time for a Show, everything looked the same.
Then, I spotted a knew doorway along the far wall...walking inside there
was no obvious theatre, just stairs ???
LOL!, The PEARL is subterranean...it's underneath the PALMS.
If you have a problem with stairs, take the elevator.

I've eaten in N9INE Steakhouse...real good and real expensive.
Very much enjoyed NOVE Italiano upstairs...real good.
If you choose to eat at The PALMS after the Show, call before you leave home to see what's
    open late/reservations? 1.866.942.7770

Winwood should put on a really good Show and have some killer musicians
with him...ENJOY! I'm sorry I'll miss him but I have the 'new' Blue Man Group and Lewis Black
    booked for that night.
PLENTY of cabs after the Show...

I'm a big Steve Winwood fan and I him back in 2003 and I was very disappointed. For me the pinnacle of his career was Arc of a Diver and Back in the High Life and he pretty much ignored those albums. He played some stuff off his latest albums, a few Traffic songs, Can't Find My Way Home sounded good, and a terrible reggae version of Gimme Some Lovin' and he was done. I doubt I would bother to ever see him again.

Thanks folks - I did go back and change my seats after Greg's advice. But ooo... I agree with you SoCalDude about Arc of a Diver and and Back in the High Life. I will hope for a better experience. It is our last night in Vegas and I would hate for it to end on a sour note.

Ya know.............I understand that many folks want to hear the hits,
and I do too but...when I book one of the bands/solo artists I grew up
with, I just feel lucky to be able to still see them...many of which still
sound great. As the writer, songs evolve over the year...they change
and so does the performer. I can't think of a band I've seen that still plays
their hits the same way...STONES, BOB SEGER, ZZTOP, VAN MORRISON,
SKYNYRD, STEELY DAN, McCARTNEY...things change (like Las Vegas, lol)
and it's always great to hear new material or oldies I haven't heard before
    or have forgotten.
I'd bet Winwood play enough variety to satisfy most of the folks at his Show.

I agree that its always good to hear your favorite band...

BUT it's criminal not to play ANY of the following songs.. especially at current concert prices.

    Arc of a diver
    Valerie
Roll with it (#1 song on billboard)
    While you see a chance
Finer Things (#1 song on billboard)
Don't you know what the night can do (#1 song on billboard)
    Split Decision
Holdin on (follow up song to Roll with it) (#1 song on billboard Adult Contemp)

thats ALOT of #1 songs not being played in concert.. I know he has such a diverse career and right now hes not in an 80's frame of mind... but its still a letdown.

Thanks Greg. We are in section 101, row B seat 19 and 20 - not quite center but close. I think we are going to try Simon or Nove before the concert - as east coasters we will just be adjusting to the time change and after the concert might be too late unless we found a really good happy hour beforehand.

After reading about kevgret's disappoinment in not hearing some of the older stuff I've really been paying attention to his newer music. I'm liking it and the concert reviews are great.

"not quite center, but close"...lol, well, sorta...I guess... It's the RIGHT
side section actually off the floor however, they're not bad.
I sat in the same section/opposite side 105 for KTLang and they were
    pretty darn good.
Do call about dinner reservation however when you decide.
