Booking a room looks like playing the stock market one day prices go up one day its down.

Im going in early december(3-10) would it be fair to assume that the closer i get to my dates the rates will go down? ( i also think there are only slim chances i could get shut out since its a pretty calm month)

As of today heres what i can get for 7 nights that i like, i dont think any decent MGM properties could match those when you figure out 150$ just in resort fee but im open to them for sure

    PH 386$
    Paris 365$
    Flamingo 80$
    Flamingo go room 318$

Im thinking of waiting till mid/late november to book and get a better price what would you do?

Are those rates using Smarter Vegas promo codes?

You could always book a hotel (or two), keep checking rates, and call for a price change. I booked and cancelled so many hotels it was ridiculous.

    Here is what I do:

About 4 months out I start looking for good prices. Once I find one that is direct with the hotel (important) I book it. They usually have an easy cancellation policy. Then I keep on looking as the date gets closer and rebook when I find a better deal.

For instance, I booked all my nights at TI using a facebook discount. Last month I got 2 nights from MSS downtown and switched my last two nights to downtown. I just got another 2 nights from Monte Carlo and I'm trying to decide if I want to move hotels 3 times in one trip. :)

The only thing you have to worry about is booking with a 3rd party like Expedia, etc. They can have cancellation fees and penalties that can bite you. Be sure you know their policy before you book.

Prices don't always go down as you get closer. In your case, Dec 2-11 is the Rodeo and the city will be packed. I would book sooner rather than later in your case.

Book something now and make sure it is 100% refundable. Yes, it may go down, but it also may go up. Lock something in that you can change later.

My experience is about ~2 months out is generally going to be the best price. Sometimes they do get cheap very close to the date, but you are taking a chance that things don't fill up. They will only get cheap if they have a massive amount of rooms to sell.

Expedia has a type of "insurance" policy you can buy for $26 in case you need to change or cancel your plans/trip. Worth the money if you book months out.

All the prices i posted are with my Total rewards players card

I booked last year with a cheapo vegas promo code and was charged all of my stay at the time of booking and couldnt change anything.

By using the total rewards website i should be able to change/cancel my reservation easily and nothing will be charge right away am i right ?

You will be charged for the first night but it's refundable if you cancel your reservation within 72 hours.

The "Strip at Night" Rockn'Roll Vegas marathon and half marathon will draw between 40,000 and 50,000 people (last year we had 44,000 participants) for the race which is scheduled for the early evening of December 2. The Finish Line is near the Mirage this year. Some participants will choose to stay at a hotel near the Finish Line and some will stay several days after the race to enjoy Las Vegas.

Between the marathon participants and a significant number of Rodeo visitors (I have no idea how many), the early part of December is a bit busier than the middle part of the month.

I agree with this, my first trip to Vegas was Nov 29-dec 3rd or something like that and it was packed. Not just people in casinos, but the streets were full of trucks, 80% of them had horse/cattle trailers behind them. It made for driving around interesting.

The rodeo is insane. Important safety tip...if you find yourself in a prop bet that includes taking a cowboy's hat and making it 3 times around the bar for $500, pay $250 to a hot girl and have her help get the hat.

    You know, in theory.

True. But if you book direct with the hotel, you can usually cancel within 72 hours at ZERO charge.

    Book now, no matter what.

This isn't my experience. I've gone during this time frame 2 years in a row and it's one of the cheapest periods of the year. Beyond the rodeo there are very few visitors. I plan to book again this year and again rates are really inexpensive for 5 star hotels.

I really dug the Flamingo Go room and like the vibe of the Flamingo in general.

As Candy apple said, they WILL charge you for the first night in advance, but refund it if you cancel, and you can call to get the lower rate if it goes down.

If you're booking straight through TR, do it as soon as you know your likely dates (unless you can't afford to be without the deposit in the meantime).

That insurance also includes my flight. Not just a hotel. Airlines charge $150 and up to change/cancel flights- that $26 even if not used is worth having

$80 vs +300+...I'd go $80 and have it booked already. Great location, nice property, and I only would need the room to sleep and shower really. If you book thru TR website just remember you won't be able to check the prices once you book your trip. The site will tell you that you already have reservations for that time period.

I don't believe this is true anymore. You can view the comped/discount prices, but the system will just not allow you to book them until you cancel the other reservation.
