The new D last weekend (sunday night) only had 2 tables that were not continious shufflers. One was a DD that allow double on 10 and 11 and double after split which sucks. Had one shoe game with decent rules. The plaza had all continious shufflers. Sigh!!!!!!!!!!!
Freemont had a few shoe games though.

Overall it looks like the new D (golden Gate) and the new Plaza (LV Club) has all went to crap. At least on the strip you can find a decent game at the $25 table. Luckily I have my ol El Cortez with good games. My favorite is a SD $25 games that you usually can play one on one.

BTW I found the Dway too loud and believe they will loose their old clientale (45-65) gamblers as they move to quieter places.

Next trip I think I will focus on the Boyd properties and see how they are doing with their games.

Overall I was very disappointed as a BJ player in what I saw.

To be fair, the Plaza has sucked Since it reopened, Was it busy there? last time I was there it was sad how slow it was in there compared to the rest downtown. I'll never understand the point of continuous shufflers(which increase house edge by speeding up play) at a place like the plaza where there is simply no play. Having dealers just stand there at empty tables, which offer poor rules, while other places DT are relatively busy, seems pointless.

Is it fair to say "BJ downtown is going downhill" when you only list negative experiences with two casinos?

Played BJ at The D Sunday night as well and I loved it!
The music was loud and awesome, the go-go dancers were out doing their thing, and those sexy BJ dealers........
Played $5 BJ with a CSM, DD any 2 cards, and had a blast. Oh, and BJ paid 3:2 even though the girl was VERY new, I thought it was supposed to be 6:5, but she always paid 3:2.

Even though it was a CSM and not a shoe or single deck, I still had a blast and will return in 2 months to play again.

Oh, forgot to mention I'm in the 50+ crowd. :poke:

Visited the D for about 45 minutes on a Thursday night earlier this month. Played blackjack in the party pit. The dealer must have been new as twice she paid-out on a player bust. Also, my brother bet $150, got a blackjack, and was paid $300. The pit critter was so busy watching the girls dance, he didn't see any of the dealer mistakes.

When Derek Stevens bought the D, one of the first things he did was get rid of all the 6/5 blackjack. Even as an owner, he hates it and doesn't want it in his casino's.

We'll come back though when we are in the (85-105) demographic because we'll be deaf.

If ten businesses in a particular "zone" offer a game called widgetmania and 8 of them have no change in their widgetmania and 2 have what would be considered worse rules then wouldn't it be fair to say that overall the widgetmania is going downhill?

I think the point is that those places have offered some bad black jack for quite some time now. It's not a recent development. The Fitz, prior to being sold, was offering a low limit "black jack" game where the dealer had to have 22 to bust. The Plaza, as someone else mentioned, has bee a bad destination for black jack since re-opening. If The (Las) Vegas Club was ever a good destination for BJ, I'm unaware of it.

It seems to be that Black Jack is business as usual. You can find good games at El Cortez, good shoe games all the time at Fremont, Binions, MSS and at least at one table, The D as well as The Cal and 4 Queens. This seems to be in line with what I've experienced for years downtown.

I guess it depends on your frame of reference. How long has the Plaza been open since the renovations? Maybe 6 months? The Fitz never had those gimmicks until, what, maybe the last year or so? And the Las Vegas Club used to be home to the "world's most liberal blackjack." For many of us, we see signs of downtown going the way of the Strip, which ain't good if you're a gambler.

I'm making my 25th solo trip to Vegas in September, staying downtown, and yes, I've seen some bad BJ rules. The 4Q was so bad in 2009 that I vowed never to set foot in the place again until the rules got better. Who has the best BJ rules downtown? Generally the Boyd properties have had decent rules and as I am staying at the Fremont, if the rules are still good that would be great

The 4 queens has one, JUST ONE, decent table, $10 double deck, handheld, I play it and am usually there with maybe 1 or 2 others, meanwhile the crappy tables are full or close to it.

To me this is even more reason for them to add a few more good ones, they'll still get the suckers at the bad ones, but can at least accommodate us "real players".

I guess a lot depends if you go downtown to play BJ for entertainment or you play BJ to win money. Personally , every time I sit down I am looking for a profit and the better rules I can find the better my odds of that happening. Guess this is why I don't go to strip clubs to play the VP at the bar. :)

I remember when I went to the GN last year the tables by the pool had $15 6:5.

I'd disagree that BJ downtown is going downhill – it did that years ago! The Four Queens, Fitz before it became D, Plaza, Vegas Club, GN, and Binions all used to have decent (relative to now) low limit games. That leaves the three Boyd properties and El Co. Guess where I play!

I have been staying exclusively downtown for the past 20+ years. You never had to look at a table to see if it paid 6:5 or 3:2, continuous shuffler, double down rules, etc. You could walk by rows and rows of blackjack tables at Binions only looking to see what the table minimum was. Some of our former favorite places to play (Four Queens, Plaza, Fitzgeralds, Las Vegas Club, Binions) we barely walk through anymore.

On our recent visit several weeks ago we ate at the Chicago Brewery in the Four Queens. Always hopeful that they will go back to better rules, I did look at the table rules as I walked by. I questioned the pit about all the 6:5 tables, continuous shuffler, etc. She was very apologetic and said the pit fought hard to keep the few 3:2 tables that they do have.

In Minnesota we have Native American casinos everywhere. It is tough when the blackjack rules at our local casinos are better than many of the casinos in Las Vegas. I don’t need gimmicks to entice me to play at a casino (dancing girls, etc.). Just give us good basic fair blackjack rules for the person that goes to Vegas to gamble.

I did notice on our recent seven night stay at the CAL (trip report posted), the one single deck table they have (pays 6:5) was always empty. I couldn’t help thinking am I the only one that notices this. Why would they keep a table open that pays 6:5 that no one plays at for seven straight days in a row? If I were the business owner it certainly wouldn’t take me long to figure out that a change needed to happen. Other than the one single deck 6:5 table at the CAL, I am a huge Boyd fan.

I was excited when some remodeling was being done at the Fitz and the Plaza. However, even with investing millions of dollars in updating the casino floor and room renovations, you still need good blackjack rules to get us in the door.

Okay, done venting and I feel much better now.

Because there's a space in between "black" and "jack"? :peace:
