I know in Vegas unlike AC... there are tons of promotions. The one i read about was Treasure Island where it was something like if you play 60 hours a week... you get back like $599 cash a week. I checked online and it seems like rarely do they ever get more than 1 table running. Does that mean promotions like this are pretty useless since the other players are probably locals?

I see there are other promotions like play 15 hours a week at Harrahs and you get to play in a weekly freeroll. But do these freerolls even run or do they just usually chop it up before a tourney even starts? I read stuff like they just pay out those 10 players who make the 15 hours? Is this true/false?

Besides these two casinos, which other poker rooms offer promotions like this? And do those freeroll tourneys actually occur?

I played at the V last time but I wouldn't mind playing some hours on these promotions.

Great little room, ran really well by top management BUT its just a shame theres NEVER any traffic to get the place going! I stayed there my last trip and im lucky if I got 8 hours of play in a 10 night stay! Maybe its picked up but from what i hear its pretty much the same, pity.

The Palms has a few different promos going on. Play 10 hours from mon-sun and play in their Thursday freeroll. The top 10 players left in the FR get $200. Earn another 10 hours in the same week and play in their Friday FR, last 10 players left get $300.

They also have high hand bonuses of $50 for 4 OAK, $100 for a straight flush, and $250 for a royal flush.

They have aces cracked during the day gets $50 or $100 and from 4-8pm, 8pm-midnight and midnight - 4 am if you make a nut flush with the ace and another card of the same suit in your hand you get a progressive payout that starts at $75 and goes up every night in the same time period until it gets hit. Last week I hit a heart nut flush during the 8pm-midnight time frame and got $225 since it was the 3rd day that it wasn't hit. One of the flushes got up to $375 the other day before it was hit. You also earn $1 an hour in comps.

They usually have 2/4 LHE and 1/3 NL running and sometimes there is a 4/8 LHE game with a half kill going.

Poker room promos=higher rake=less money to win

Of course that only applies if you do not believe poker is gambling.

Actually there is $3 max rake at The Palms poker room, it is pretty much the lowest rake in Las Vegas. Its also been proven that poker is a game of skill.

You should know your facts before you post about something.

It would probably just be locals that put in the time *and* show up for the freerolls, so it is likely that when they get there they just show up, sit down and then before the cards are dealt just do an even chop...

For a local it would probably just make sense to chop it up: if the total of the freeroll was $100 (as an example, I don't know the value of the free roll) and ten people showed up they can just show up, collect their $10 and go... which isn't a lot of money, but wouldn't be bad for a few minutes work and they can get back to how they really make their money: grinding it off drunk tourists.

But that said, if you don't mind taking heat and getting the stink eye from other players you could show up and say you aren't going to chop and insist they play it out.

    The downside of that is:
    - you might not get anything, and once they knock you out they'll probably stop there and do an even chop of the prize money between whoever is left in the game.
    - the other players might try to gang up on you, and not just in the free roll but through regular playing in the poker room.
    - its not a way to make friends, and having friends in the poker room isn't bad because they could let you know when a soft game is going on or somebody is running a really good promotion that you might not have heard of

Good to know about the Palms max rake. Usually most promos involve a higher rake or jackpot drops (which equal the same thing) and you should probably read my last line. Reading comprehension is always +EV.
