    Sam,

I did a quick search online and did not find anything to confirm they are actually re-opening the Plaza station.

That video was posted on YouTube July 8.

    And this:
Las Vegas Railway Express - Travel & Transportation, Luxury Train ...

    www.facebook.com/TheXTrain

OK X Train fans, you will like this one. Last week we started on the off-site work to begin building the train station behind the Plaza Hotel.

I also fixed the link to the Plaza/station rendering.

Video is coming up as "private."

IMHO, the X train is about as likely to succeed as the ferris wheel on the old Cloud 9 balloon property.

Interesting. It wasn't private a few hours ago when I posted the link. Perhaps I stumbled onto something that wasn't ready for public consumption. In any case, the lady in the video described the plan to open a station south of the Plaza, which is a parking lot at this time. Said they'll be restoring service that ended back in 1997.

Info page says they will offer a 5 hour train ride. That is better than drive time on the busy days, but they should just drop down the foundation of the high speedrail right there, that would be money well spent!

5 hours? I can make it from Torrance to Vegas in that time by car, while stopping for lunch and more smokes.

No dice, unless it's super cheap.

This picture shows it located behind the North tower.

I didn't think Las Vegas had any passenger rail service anymore.

Yes, there are a few different renderings with different locations. The video shows the place as I described it, with an entire complex built around the station. Quite different from the simple platform as shown in your photo. If this happens at all, it will probably be using the one you posted.

WOW!!! This will fail. I wish someone could tell them. The same thing happened to the ACE train to Atlantic City.

It only departs *ONCE* on Thursday and Friday at noon in the proposed schedule. No one *WANTS* or needs that. People get off of work at 5pm. Plus this sucks for people wanting to travel to Southern Cali and back throughout the week.Somebody please HELP these people make plans for Vegas. We do not need another failing railing in Vegas. http://www.vegasxtrain.com/proposed-schedule.html

Vegas' bread and butter is whales and So Cal-ers. Whales don't train, So Cal-ers don't train.

It's Vegas. EVERYTHING is proposed. Other than a few novelties, it's still all about casinos.

I've thought the same thing, Ken. And those young Californians who don't train also aren't headed to downtown and the Plaza. They're headed to Tao and Wynn Beach Clubs. The departing station is wayyyyy out of LA, so you've gotta get transportation (and or expensive parking) there as well. And leave when the train says so. Get there when the train says so.

The only "upside" is that you can drink on the way. But you can on a plane, too.

If this happens at all, it's going to be a bigger failure than the monorail by far.

People not from this region cannot fathom the centrality of the individual automobile to the life of a Golden Stater. Hell, even the more "enlightened" Bay Area for some time has had a moderate semblance of fixed-rail and other alternative transit, and the 101, 80, 280, 580, 880 and the like are still gridlocked daily. The LA Basin, Orange County, SD? Forget it. And it carries over to vacay time.

Give me my coffee and get yer arse out of my way 'cause it's my god-given right as a Californian to drive 87 mph, even if I'm crawling along the Baker Grade at 20 on a Friday night.

So a train transiting the same terrain but taking longer is a plus? lol

She needs to drive between the river and Phoenix if she wants to see boring desert terrain. Hell, she should just cruise the 10 from Fontucky to San Bankrupdino to see America's ugliest highwayscape.

I'd ride it from the Bay Area, I'd probably have the whole coach to myself.

Right now to get to Vegas from the Bay Area by rail you take the Amtrak to Bakersfield then a six hour bus ride.

I learned that the hard way, after my wife books the tickets and doesn't see the part about the bus. It was about two hours into the ride that I noticed it.

I never let her book again.

while all the previous issues are real and true, the REAL issue with this train if it ever runs and attracts a warm body is how poor the scheduling will be

the tracks this train will run on are some of the most heavily used rails in the USA and probably the world......have fun sitting on a siding east or west of Barstow for 5 hours while freight trains crawl by, or have fun sitting stopped in the middle of no where while some broken down or derailed freight train blocks the tracks ahead and then when it gets fixed you still have to sit while all the freight trains get moving again and take priority

or wait until your train smashes some drunk in Victorville that missed seeing all the lights, bells, whistles, and crossing gates.....that will take about 9 hours to sort out before you even get moving again only to have to pull onto a siding for the next 5 hours while the freights get priority

or even better when your own train breaks down and blocks everyone else and you can't run the HEAP or use the bathroom and they run out of food and drinks

then when you pull into Vegas at 4:53 am for your 7 pm (the previous day) arrival your room is not available or they want to charge you for a full day even though you will be getting a room that was not sold the "night" before

even funner will be doing it all over again on the way back home......getting into the far reaches of LA 4 or 5 hours late just in time to catch traffic and rush right to work directly from the station after a weekend of debauchery and "sleeping" on a train with a bunch of angry people that are late late late and complaining about it endlessly and loudly as Americans do so well....having not eaten for hours because there was no provision for even snacks if the train ran a few hours late much less if it was multiple hours late like trains on western freight tracks like to be

nothing is as off putting to taking the train in the USA as taking the train and actually having somewhere to be within an 8 hour window (really more like a 12 hour window)

if you are retired, unemployed, have endless time on your hands, nowhere to be other than where you will EVENTUALLY end up, don't really get too worked up about comfort or knowing what is going on, enjoy being around people that the greyhound would rather NOT have on their bus....while those people do get worked up about comfort and schedules.....the train will be the best trip ever......if not you might as well lay on the rails VS ride them because you will probably have a better experience
