Overall since day 1, how have you done? From reading the trip reports, it seems that the big players on this board won more often than lost. I am just wondering here. I personally lost over 40k in the past 1.5 years.

i'm down lifetime. pretty much everyone else i know is down lifetime as well. the casinos weren't built because there are a bunch of winners walking around. almost anybody that says they're up lifetime is feeding you a story. in the short term you can have winning trips and even winning years. but if you play long enough they'll always get it back.

the real question is are you up or down lifetime as compared with your theo? doubtful anybody can really answer that, but that's the real test. if your lifetime theo is $100k and you've only lost $50k you're doing pretty well. but if your lifetime theo is $10k and you've lost $50k you're a bad gambler.

Can't say exactly, but I would guesstimate that lifetime I'm down about 6-7K

After literally hundreds of trips, I really don't want to even think about it.

People enjoy bragging about their wins, but their losing embarrasses them. It forces them to confront the possibility they have a problem.

Gambling is usually an irrational act, because people are paying (in terms of theoretical) much more than they otherwise would for entertainment. It's easy to balk at paying $1,000 for tickets to an exclusive event, yet without batting an eyelash, fire it up at the tables in a session with a theoretical in excess of $1,000. If you're sweating the money, you're probably playing at a level you can't afford, but if you're not sweating the money, it's probably boring. Hence the irrationality.

Lifetime, I have no question that I'm way, way down. My mind seems to magnify the losses, so I might be overstating it, but I would guess my lifetime is at least 50K negative. But the real measure of whether or not that's "a lot" is a function of my net worth/wealth/income/assets. And I'll admit, for me, it's a lot. I suspect that most frequent gamblers, if answering honestly, have also lost "a lot".

I like the thrill of winning as much as anyone, but I know in my heart I should stay out of casinos.

    This:thumbsup:

I know I'm down, but when I get home, I just wait for the next trip and ignore the losses.

I think people just get excited to tell others about their great trip and don’t want to have to relive the losing ones. So, the odds are good that you’re going to see more winning TR’s than losing ones. I know the last thing I want to do after having my ass handed to me is to recount all the gory details.

I like shifter’s point of losses vs. theoretical losses. I’ve kept track of all my trips and the amounts I’ve started with and returned with. Then I’ve tried to estimate how much time I played that trip, my average bets and how much I might have tipped out in the form of chips so I can come up with an accurate assessment of my actual wins/losses and also a way to compare those to what I “should” have lost. Way too many moving pieces and estimations to be very accurate. But, if my “best guesses” are somewhat on target, my loss rate is pretty close to what I’d estimate the house advantage is for the combination of games I play and the amount I bet on each of them.

Unfortunately, I know exactly how much I’ve lost (or at least, the exact difference between what I took with me and what I brought home). I’d really rather not go into any detail, as just looking at the number is depressing enough. Though, when looked at as a trip’s or day’s average loss, it doesn’t seem too scary.

I would have to do some serious thinking to come to a close figure. Vegas is my vacation spot so I never consider myself down. With my total cost (flight, bankroll, etc) of Vegas, sure I could have spent a few days somewhere else - say Florida - but I don't have even a chance of coming out ahead there. Vegas is the only vacation I have went on in which I came home with more money than I started with. So any trip that is not a total loss is coming out ahead for me vs other places I might have traveled to and spent around the same amount of money.

I'm down, no doubt, and even overrationalizing the "free" hotel rooms and "free" prime rib dinners, my comps normally cover a large portion of my losses per trip.

Last trip, I lost $1200 (including gambling, tax, tips, cash purchases), but was comped 7 nights, but didn't pay a dime for meals outside of a burger at In N Out, so I broke even, or even made a few bucks. $200 per day for a 4 star, with 2 meals per day.... SOLD.

I've had plenty of trips where i've lost 4k, and a few trips where i've won 2k- 9k, but I would say my average loss is in the $2000- $2500 range per 7 day trip.

My weeklong Aruba stay is 4k, a week in Orlando is 3k, and Europe averages 4-5k per week. I stay at TI, Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock, Aria, M Resort, Mandalay... all places that I value at $150- $250 per night. COMPED!

Vegas has always been a great value to me. My losses are wins!

I guess I'm one of the few that can say I'm in positive territory for lifetime win/loss (over 20 years). Only because I'm such a low roller and have extensively played gaming coupons over the years. While I have not kept exact numbers, there have been very few times when I ended a trip with less than I started. If I include online play I have a net gain of over $16k due to bonus money.

Way way way down, deeeeep river. Had a very good run last few years after many years of losses. Even with a huge run of winning trips im down a ton lifetime.

I have no dilusions. I enjoy the action and I suppose it's better, healthier, and slightly more socially acceptable and less destructive than smoking crack. Slightly

Just going by my tax statements that the players clubs give you at the end of the year I was down over $9K for the past 6 years. But after hitting for $11K in one day this year I have now leveled the field. But after a losing couple of months since my jackpot I'm back in the hole by $200.00

    I'm up lifetime (14 years).

    Blackjack: +7000 (counting)
Blackjack: -2100 (before I learned to count)
PaiGow Poker: -4300 (I don't why I keep playing this, I guess it's still fun.)
    Comps value: +5200
    Slots: -1900
    Everything else: -800

    Net: +3100
Not counting the comps I'm behind, of course. The blackjack counting number has been as high as +$13,500.

Down several thousand over the years. However, I'm from Wisconsin and look at it differently. If you add in the price of all the free beers, I'm probably even.

I'm curious as to what your bet spread is and about how much action you've played to get this.

    Interesting...

My early trips certainly more down than up...though not much. Our budget was small, and for a number of trips we always hit big at the Let It Ride table on our last morning in Vegas. Then we had a few cold trips....THEN...we found poker:nworthy: Then a bad trip was breaking even. Nice thing is we are able to up our daily bankroll. I did have a couple losing trips last year, but they were not typical for me--playing games I don't usually play. Ironically, I hit slots on one trip (free tourney) & was hot at VP on the other. This March I was cold (and TICKED about it...) at poker...caught my first VP royal...several hours later hit another! Strange how it works!
SOOO....not much if you consider the comps! (rooms, mostly)
