What is the most cost effective way to get from the airport to the Strip? Cab, private company, etc.?

The WAX is the cheapest at $2 a ride I believe.

    Shuttles are $6?/person.

Cab will be anywhere from $15-$30 depending on hotel.

Private car will be $45 and up

The first 2 take longer than the last 2.

    Cost effective? The bus, I suppose. But...20th anniversary...Bellagio...nah, you don't want the bus. $15-20 + tip for a cab. $40ish + tip for a Towncar. $60+ for a limo.

I've not used them, but a lot of folks on this board swear by Presidental Limo. Drop the hint to hubby and have him set up a round-trip. That way you won't even have to carry your bags.

Upon arriving to Vegas the LAST thing you wanna deal with is a bus/shuttle. Getting a cab is bare minimum, or like others said, splurge for a limo.

Ha ha! Sounds good. No, I wasn't looking for bargain basement....just trying to figure out the best way to get there. Guess a cab is the easiest way. I'll check into the limo thing though! :)

If you are arriving in the evening, and have a little extra time I would go with the limo. They charge by the hour so you can drive up and down the strip before getting to your hotel.

I always use A1 Worldwide (after much research it was one of the least expensive services I found and they have always been reliable) - the driver meets you in baggage claim with a name sign, takes your luggage and you arrive at the hotel in style with no waiting on a taxi line and no stress or fuss. You have to tell a taxi driver not to take the tunnel and end up watching like a hawk and wondering the whole time if the driver is going to try and rip you off. Not the best way to start off a special 20th anniversary trip. For a luxury sedan with A1 it is about $50 and that includes gratuity. If you want to give an additional gratuity you can, but it is included in the price:

P.S. - I would definitely not recommend taking a shuttle. Before I knew better, I took it the first few times I went to Vegas and you have to wait forever for it to arrive and then wait forever AGAIN (okay I know you can't do forever twice but that is how long it felt) to get to your hotel (unless you are lucky enough to be one of the first stops). Never again. As for the bus....uh, no.

Also - for your return, it is very easy to get a taxi from Bellagio, and of course it is much cheaper than A1 worldwide but be sure to tell the taxi driver to take Tropicana to McCarron so he or she knows that you are not some rookie tourist - a taxi driver tried to take me the long way from the Cosmopolitan last month so I know that some of them are trying to jack up the fare on the return to the airport too. Tropicana is the fastest way to get to McCarron from Bellagio.

It's a shame that a monorail never got built from the airport to the Strip.

So if I want to tell the cab driver which way to go to Harrah's what directions would I request? Besides "no tunnel"?

I would say go with a private car. Even if a limo seems like a bit much, a town car or SUV will do the job perfectly. The nice thing about that is it allows you to full enjoy your trip from the beginning. You don't have to worry about waiting in line or being taken advantage of. Plus you can make any stops you need along the way. In my experience the drivers are usually extremely friendly and helpful, much more-so then taxis.

"North up Paradise, please." Implies you want to avoid the Strip and of course the tunnel.

Don't worry when the street signs say, "Swenson". Paradise is a one-way southbound near the airport; Swenson the parallel street northbound.

Almost every time I get into a taxi from the airport. The taxi drivers first question is "is this your first time in Vegas?" This way he can try to give it to you if it is. Lol

I usually rent a car, but I am thinking of saving that money on my next trip. To be honest, the few times I have used taxis in Vegas, I have found the drivers to be rude or at least a little wacked out.

While I hate to paint them all with such a broad brush, I am going to take a shuttle to the hotel. I took a shuttle a few years ago on my first trip, and I found it to be a decent way to travel. The shuttle was comfortable, and it was nice to chat with others starting their vacation. Hopefully Paris is one of the first stops since the multiple hotel thing could get frustrating. This is a solo trip so the shuttle will be a good economic way to get to the hotel.

It's all personal preference.... The first time I took a shuttle we had to wait at the airport for the shuttle to fill up. Then the shuttle made 2 or 3 stops at other casinos hitting speed bump after speed bump. For me I just want to get to the check in Line a.s.a.p. So I take a taxi for the extra 10 bucks my time is too precious and my patience runs thin.
