Kitsch 50s 60s Vegas

Evening everyone

Now that we decided on where and when, I started making a "What to do" list.

Both me and my boyfriend are into vintage and historical stuffs.

The only thing on our list right now is the Neon boneyard to see the old and retired neons and I'm looking for other things to do.

We don't want to go to dusty or weird places but more like places untouched by time.

Things from the 50s or 60s. Tiki bars..
The kind of things you would see on Mad Men.

Try the Peppermill restaurant next to the Riviera, see Human Nature at Imperial Palace, and perhaps a quiet dinner at the Flame Steakhouse inside El Cortez downtown. That place in particular seems like old campy Vegas to me.

Eat at Du-Pars in the Golden Gate downtown. The interior is old-school diner and hasn't changed in years.

Sit at the counter and gaze upon the mirror display of home made pies.

 

Good suggestion, I forgot that one. Sat at the counter just this past Thursday night, enjoying their retro uniforms and friendliness. Some of those ladies have been there many years and have a small town diner personality - very easygoing...

 

El Cortez for table games. It looks pretty old, except for the slot machines but it was the only place I was in last year that played jazz music instead of 80's like you hear in most places. $3 Craps and $.25 Roulette.

If you study old pictures of Fremont St. from that era while walking through you can see where the older places once were. There is even a patch on pavement outside of Mermaids that was the same as it was in the 60's when it was some famous casino.
Ellis Island Coffee Shop still looks old. Dark lit with old lamps. You could imagine a mob meeting at the back table.

Also there is an old Italian restaurant behind Bill's that I heard looks really old.

Golden Gate used to look old since they added the pole dancers all that pretty much left.

 

That's Battista's, and people either love it or hate it, but yeah, it's very Old Vegas.

Another Old Vegas place is Golden Steer on Sahara.

Also on Sahara (was, anyway) was a very old-school Continental place that my dad and his then-GF loved. Forget the name, we just called it "That FooFoo place." Haven't been there in decades though.

 

Yep - one of the classic old-school Rat Pack restaurants. It's in a tacky building, but inside is pure old Las Vegas. They've done nothing to upgrade since the 60's - no need to. Get reservations for weekend nights. And, expect to pay about $100 per person with drinks. Service is excellent.

Perhaps dinner at Hugo's Cellar? [Though maybe more "Casino" era vegas than 50's/60's kitsch]

I don't think that was it. Pamplemousse (sp?) is or was right in the vicinity of the Sahara I think, and this one was more off-Strip.

 

The Griffin, 511 Fremont Street (East Downtown) has a great 60's vibe.

The Steakhouse at Circus Circus looks like it was frozen in 1967.

Same feel as The Steakhouse but much cheaper is The Victorian Room at Bills Gamblin' Hall:
