Hi folks, going to be at the Flamingo next week, I've played at the Flamingo but never stayed there before. I am a diamond member and booked a 4 nights stay, only two nights were comped the other two were 27 dollars a night. Didn't get all nights comped because I haven't been playing much since I was away at school.

Is the Flamingo easy to get upgraded to a Go room or suite? I have a deluxe two queen bed booked Monday through thursday.

Why do they check your ID at the pool? Do they look if you are registered with the hotel? How early should I be at the pool in order to get a chair?

Any tips I should know about this place?

Also, are minni fridges and safes comped for diamond members? Ballys comped them for me all the time.

Normally a Diamond member will receive an upgrade. Now I don't know with the mid level in place (FAB) rooms if it would go to a GO room or just up to FAB. When you log into your TR account & actually go 'into' your reservation, if an upgrade is automatically applied it will show within the ressie. Not just where you view it, (that remains the room typed booked) but where you go in & 'edit' or 'change' your reservation area. I could always see my upgrade 3 to 4 days prior to the start of my reservation.

The GO rooms have mini-fridges & coffee makers. Those are the only rooms with them so I don't know if they would comp them in another type of room for a Diamond member or not. It doesn't hurt to ask if you don't get the GO upgrade.

Diamond/Platinum check-in is in a separate room to the left side of the check-in counter. So you won't be dealing with the regular check-in counter or long lines. If it is late & that room is closed then there will be a D/P window at the regular counter. They have always been very nice at the D/P area.

Unless you are really set on a strip view, the garden views are the quietest. Then I consider the southern views the best. If you are high enough you may have a chance at a fountain view from the south end & no window wrap to block view. A strip view is supposed to be great but gets VERY noisy late into the night from the night club at Caesars - I had a very hard time sleeping this last trip. A north view at this time wouldn't be pleasant because of Linq construction, however, that is limited to standard daytime working hours.

If they offer you an executive room upgrade it is just slightly larger so make sure you focus on your room 'type' desired such as GO.

Breakfast at Margaritaville is good - you get a 20% discount with your players card. (Just a breakfast option thought).

Diamond lines are available at all food venues & if there isn't a display sign (such as Margaritaville) then ask if they have faster seating or preferred seating for Diamond members.

If you purchase from a retail outlet ask if they give a discount & show your card. (I don't want to discuss how many times I have forgotten to do this at the store at Paris at bottom of elevators - this was the first trip they ASKED!) Also - several of the food outlets now have a separate price line for TR card members so make sure if you see that you show your card.

Thanks for the info. I will be arriving at about 10:00am, does flamingo charge an early check in fee? I would hope not for diamond members. Ive been reading reviews and ive read that its a dive, Your personal preference where would you stay? Ballys or flamingo? Why?

Most rooms are certainly not dives. I love the Flamingo, do a search in this forum category, there has been alot of Flamingo information posted lately. For those who stay at the B or Cosmo or Aria, it is certainly not that. However, compared to Bally's it's just peachy.

I'm really surprised you only have a Deluxe room comped. There are only a handful of those left, most have been converted to FAB rooms, you might want to check on that. If you can get a FAB room comped, they are newly remodeled and it will be easier to make that jump to GO, a very worthy jump in my opinion.

Get to the pool when it opens or before if you want a lounger, hours are posted on the website.

Well thanks for the info. Again. I looked under reservations page and it does say I have a FAB room booked, hopefully the 20 trick works to get a GO room or a suite.

I stayed in the Flamingo last year, I was booked for a deluxe standard room and was upgraded to a petite suite just for the asking and a $20 tip, may have gotten it w/o the tip but one does not know. Iv not stayed at Ballys but Flamingo is easy to get in and out of onto the strip, that is one thing it has going for it over Ballys. Bad part, seems a lot of homeless were congragating right infront due to the bus stop that is infront of Flamingo. That area seems to have lots of hookers as well, I was picked up on five times in less than 10 minutes, I denied their company but its a fact. Just behave, that is the area they film Vegas Strip in, we do not want to see you on that :nono::wave:

I believe early check-in fee is waived for Platinum & Diamond. Otherwise, I think it is before noon that it is assessed & then they don't even do it all the time.

If the reservation says Fab now, they may have already upgraded you - otherwise keep checking 'within' the ressie each day & if it shows better then make sure you print that & keep the copy with you.

People that don't like Flamingo are VERY critical of it. Some of the old rooms (regular) were pretty cruddy, however, I doubt they were any worse than some of the low-budget hotel rooms I have stayed at over the years. And my assumption is that the worst of those rooms have been redone already as FAB. The FAB rooms have been refreshed (altho most bathrooms stayed the same) & I really like the GO rooms. At some point I believe all of the older rooms will be totally gone (although you can still book them) & it will only be FAB & GO.

I will say honestly that the GO rooms are a love/hate deal also. That pink decor can be a turn-off for some guys!!! But beds are super comfy & showers have those center shower heads which really help a sore back. Some GO rooms have a tub also - others have only a larger shower.

One thing you will have to ignore is the hallway carpet. I know it is on the redo list but I don't know if it has been redone yet. I did see a pic of dumpsters in the alley that did have carpet in it a couple months ago so I would assume they are replacing it at least in some parts. But that may have been still room carpet. As an FYI the hallway carpet that was previously installed (both Go & tropical) was NOT industrial grade so it didn't stand up to the heavy traffic & looks awful. Some people latch onto that right away. My travel companion never even noticed it when she came with me at the last minute in March. So just realize it looks awful & ignore it.

They added a really nice little liquor store/snack area up in the front that you can access from casino or strip. (Replaced the carnaval court one that was removed for remodel - and it gets 10X the traffic that one ever did).

If you are not from the US you will need to show passport at the pool - they normally haven't been accepting foreign DL's (although it depends on who is working).

Ballys is a good solid hotel. North Tower rooms are fairly decent although very plain. ST needs a redo although some people like it just for better view potential. I like the easy accessibility of Flamingo to the strip vs. Ballys. The rooms at Ballys are larger, although Flamingos are an acceptable size - you shouldn't feel cramped.

As usual, JGates has this one right, good room info.

Regarding the Deluxe rooms, I stayed in one for a 1 night stay last summer before I was diamond and I was scared to death! I stay in about 150+ hotel rooms each year, most on business, and I'm used to Hilton level or better, AND I'm kinda OCD.

The room was just fine. It was as plain brown as possible and the tv was a tiny old tube tv. The bathroom was old. The entire room was spotless (and I look!) and had everything I needed and nothing I didn't. Slept like a baby in that old bed. The view was Fab, floor to ceiling windows overlooking Caesars, Flamingo is so close to the strip the views are awesome.

What I didn't like was, to me, it didn't qualify as a "vacation" room. I like a nicer room for vacation, but for one night it was absolutely fine. The FAB rooms are even better as the old stained carpet is gone and the room is refreshed. I thought the FAB beds were the hardest pillow top I ever slept in, like the GO room beds much better.

    Have a great trip!

How would they know if you are not from the US if you didn't speak? You cannot racially profile an American as they are all races. Surely they ID people to check age and not nationality?

If you show them a UK driver's license they are likely to know you are foreign.

And the issue isn't profiling, its fake IDs. Bouncers likely have enough trouble with 50+ different state drivers licenses. But how are they meant to know what a real UK drivers license looks like compared to a forgery?

OK yes it is a pool for over 21s , and we are from the UK but under no circumstances will we be carrying our passports to the pool ( have you ever lost one abroad ,I have , and the shit to get home sucks) We are 55/61 do we really need to prove we are over 21 , I think not.

I completely agree, as I'm in the "passport" camp too, and I won't be bringing it to a pool unless they have a way to secure it.

They do have another pool that is not 21+. Still wondering which I'm going to end up using. Kids vs crowds, lines, IDs, and annoying club music, that's a tough one.

Going to be honest. I preferred the kids pool last summer. But I am not a party animal. I also assume no alcohol at kidz pool but I didn't pay attention.

Flamingo > ballys by a long shot imo. I have stayed at flamingo many times, always in a regular room w/ strip view. Ive always had a decent and clean room. At Ballys in S.Tower, my room was very dated and worn. And flamingo in general is a livlier and funner casino w/ better food options and an awesome pool. The pool does get packed tho, get there early if your wanting side by side chairs. you can usually find 1 chair mixed in the crowd. And margaritaville chicken fajitas are awesome!

I stayed at the Flamingo in the week just passed (got back yesterday) and am also from the UK.

I was carrying around my drivers license until I realised it was useless. They wouldnt accept it anywhere (not just the Flamingo, Im talking every hotel/establishment) I was the same as you but ended up having to carry it with me everywhere. Annoying, but if you want to be served 100% of the time you need to carry your passport.

Once instance I was at a table with my mrs and she was gambling and they asked to see both our ID's. When I produced mine he said it wasnt a valid form of ID, only US & Canadian issued Government ID and Passports for everyone else. It was a Roulette table and the guy said I would have to leave the table and wouldnt continue until I did.

On a lighter note for anyone reading. I got a $20 upgrade to a Go Room on the 16th floor with a View (didnt book a view room) and our friends staying in a Fab room did the $20 trick and got upgraded to the 26th floor Go Room with a view (they checked in around 11:30pm). The Flamingo only has 28 floors so this was a very nice view!!
