I'm hoping to get some good pictures on my upcoming trip this weekend...scenic, panoramic, time lapsed, etc.

Anyone have any good recommendations of places to take these pictures? I'll have a tripod if necessary (mostly for long exposures) but don't want to have to lug it around too far. I'll be staying downtown at the GN one night and at Aria another couple nights. Definitely want to get some pictures of the pool at the GN...both day and night.

Looking for specific spots...don't think we'll make it to The STRAT but who knows. Open to any and all suggestions.

    Thanks!

Note, they wont let you bring your tripod on the top of the Stratosphere . The way i was treated that day is pretty much why I wont return to that property.

Apparently, its a "security risk", that I could stab people with. This same tripod i brought on a plane as a carry on with no issues. When I wanted a better explanation they just talked down to me, treated me like I was stupid.. And on top of that, they wouldnt hold it for me at the security desk at the bottom of the elevator. I had to leave the line, walk across the casino to the concierge to have it checked.

    in short, f**k them. :grrr:

I would suggest keeping the camera handy at all times, you never know when a good pic will come up at you.

(Insert pics here, trying to figure out how...)

I thnk I got it, look out below...

I think I got it. The one on the left I blew up to 16 x 20 and framed it and hung it over my TV so I can always look up the strip.

    Turf War

It's probable to protect their turf, Nice medium format pics in low lighting many times require a good tripod. I always used a tripod with my Bronica.
(They want you to buy pictures from them & make sure & dont forget to stop at the gift shop)

Awesome ideas so far. I will probably avoid the strat. Really hoping to play with long exposure shots at night...close enough to each respective home base. Also wanna combine those shots into good panoramic shots via windows 7's panoramic tool. Anything specific downtown that I should get? The GN pool is already on the list. Don't know if the top of any parking garage will provide a better view

If you get an awesome one wanna share with me? I've been looking for a really good panoramic shot of Vegas to print out and hang on the wall but haven't found anything that's caught my eye yet.

i like pics that capture the current culture of vegas right now...it's funny because it's often our own culture that we can not detect....

eg, porn slappers, cartoon characters wanting money, pics of people taking pics, road rage, shuttles, bellagio lake, cosmo entrance, cosmo chandelier, cocktail waitresses, clubbers, bouncers, bus riders, taxi drivers, outdoor restautant at paris, serendipity at caesars, outside wynn forest, fashion show mall, walkers, people-watching pics, the car outside of tropicana, the fort outside excalibur, the themes inside each casino (will be difficult to take casino pics inside some places...so these pics will feel the most exciting to get), a pic of outside each casino of course, karoake @ harrahs, etc

Definitely...I'm just hoping I don't mess things up because I will not have my laptop with me and verifying the quality of the shots is tough to do on such a small display screen.

There are a couple failed attempts at panoramic shots on my last trip report...these were done without a tripod on a cheapie pocket camera so I know I can get much much better on the next trip...plus I took nowhere near the amount of shots necessary to compile each one.

Not to incessantly plug the blog, but one shoot I did a few years back was to capture in "street" theme, those watching the light show downtown:

Those familiar with the late Arthur Fellig (AKA Weegee) may recognize the style I went for. :)

I really hate to be in-your-face about it, but those are some of the characters I've tried to shoot off and on.

One of my faves is this guy, shot outside the Hard Rock a few years back: :)

Notice the "thumbs up" from the guy in the white convertable. :)

I took this two weeks ago as I was walking into Bonanza to get my kids their gifts. I looked up and thought this would make a great picture, so I snapped it and I think it turned out great:

I had the same treatment in 2005 with a table top tripod.
