    My Trip Report

Just some miscellaneous notes from our trip.

Went to Mob Museum on Monday. I still have a valid NV driver license, so my admission was $10. They wouldn’t let me buy a second ticket for my wife at the resident price, so her admission was $18. She has no valid ID from NV. Maybe worth $10, not sure, but IMO, not worth $18. Senior 65 and over is $16.
I knew quite a bit of the Vegas Mob details just from reading the book “When the Mob Ran Vegas.” The PBS series “Prohibition” also contained much of the Mob info. Lots of pictures, a few video presentations. I know a lot about Vegas and the Mob and have read quite a few books on the subject. Maybe it might interest others a little more. I might be jaded.

A little history of the 3 story building downtown. Original Clark County court house and after that a post office. One of the video presentations is in the original courthouse room where the Senator Kefauver held his traveling, cross country, Mob hearings. The presentation was well done. BTW, just one picture of Oscar Goodman as a Mob defense attorney.
Tour is self guided and starts on the 3rd floor and then you work your way down to the first floor. Elevators or you can also use the stairs. Lots of tour guides along the route. There is a parking lot adjacent to building for $3.
They give you a concert type wrist band that is valid for the entire day, so you could leave and come back. I don’t know who would need to leave and come back; we did the entire thing in two hours.

Glitter Gulch now has video poker. I didn’t go in so I don’t know how much they remodeled to install the machines or what the pay tables are. Just lots of signage outside the place about “two pair” paying well. You can guess the picture of a guy surrounded by two girls.

We are comped but I throw in prices for reference.

We went to the MSS Sunday champagne brunch ($11.99) and as always, it was very good. Sunday night we dined at the 777 and it was also very good. I had the 12oz ribeye ($13.95) and my wife had the meatloaf ($8.95).

Monday we went to the Paradise Café inside Fremont for breakfast and they still have a ham and egg special, includes toast and hash browns for $6.99. Whole slice of ham, 10oz and it was excellent. Brought quite a bit of ham back to the room to snack on. They also have the “deuces” 2 eggs, 2 sausage, two bacon and two pancakes for $6.99.

We met my brother and his wife on Monday night for dinner at Second St Grill, inside the Fremont. We started with escargot & scallops appetizer ($15). I had a 10 oz filet ($30), my wife had the Prime rib-queen cut ($20). My brother and SIL both had the T Bone special (~$18). All meals came with soup or salad and choice of potato.

While we were waiting for them to show, my wife ordered a Belvedere martini. Very generous drink in size and booze. ($11)

There were other meals, but I’ve forgotten the details. Killed too many brain cells.

Checked into our double booked room at the Plaza on Monday. 1503 in the North tower. Very nice room! Elevators busier than any hotel I’ve ever been to. Turns out the bingo session just ended on the 3rd floor and they had 900 people trying to move about. I’ve never seen so many motorized scooters and oxygen tanks in my life!:evillaugh

I got two nights comped and $50 in slot credits, so I gave them a little play. I cannot stand whatever fragrance they pump into that casino.

We didn't use the room but here are some pictures:

Meetup at 777 on Monday. There was supposed to be an informal meeting at 5 PM, 777 Brewpub at MSS, but nobody showed. Oh well, that’s how things go in Vegas. No biggie.

On Tuesday Techie223, from VMB, stopped by the Boar’s bar at MSS at we had a pleasant conversation and a drink.

MSS scratch cards: I played some craps and some BJ, but mostly VP. Between the two of us we got over 50 scratch cards for 4OAK. I got one $5, two $3 and all the rest were $2. Bartenders were telling us someone got the $5,000 card in late March. So it’ll probably be another 18 months or so before someone hits another.

Overall, we both lost, but not too much. No Royals for either of us. My wife did hit 4 Aces, 5 times playing quarter Bonus ($100 ea). I hit 4 aces twice on $1, DDB, but no kicker, so $800 each time. I did hit a progressive straight flush for $350 on DDB. First trip in forever my wife didn’t get a straight flush.

Breakfast at 777 before our 6:45 limo pickup. We both had the ham & egg special ($6.25) comes with 10oz bone-in ham slice, 2 eggs, potatoes & toast.

Odd thing on our flight home on SWA. They announce to a passenger if she still wants to volunteer to get off, to come forward. She does and a guy gets on the plane to take her place. 747 full flight. Then they tell him he has to get off and a different guy gets on to take the only vacant seat.

Then they find one more vacant seat and the other guy gets back on. Just all very strange and they closed the exit door and reopened it twice. Delay of 15 minutes but we had strong tailwinds and got back to Milwaukee 10 minutes early.

Those plaza rooms look great. I may stay there a night or 2 on my next trip. I remember we had an impromptu meet when I was at MSS in August, talking about the giants and packers briefly. 777 brewpub wings will always have a place in my heart.

Good tr Joe, thanks. Hope you had fun.

What is the minimum on that craps machine? might try to get my Mom to play it next visit.

Also i have seen you refer to mss scratchers before but i dont know what they are. Do you get them for a certain amount of gaming?

Every time you get a 4OAK,(four of a kind) on VP, you tell the bartender, or put on the call light if playing on the floor and they bring you a scratch card. Have to be playing 5 coins and have a Player's Club card in the machine.
If you're playing less than quarters, they have one card and I think the minimum amount is $.50 and if you're quarters or more, than it's a different scratch card with a minimum payout of $2. This is only at Main Street Station.

I didn't play the craps machine but I think minimum per hand was $2 and a max of $500.
