Sams Town

People keep telling me I have to go to this place..will be there 4 nights in May..Would anyone like to share they're experience with the place..Just wondering if it is worth it or just to skip it..

 

Have these people said "why" you have to go there?

I'm sure other may disagree, and that's fine, but to me there is nothing special about Sam's Town. To me it's just another casino hotel. If you feel the need to visit a Boyd property, maybe Gold Coast (Rio next door and good food options), Orleans (good food options, except the buffet which kinda sucked the last time we went) or any of the ones downtown might be a better option.

 

I've stayed and played at all seven Boyd/Coast Vegas properties many times, including Sam's Town, of course. Let's just say that when they give me free rooms, I don't hesitate. It's much more a local's casino than the others, gets an older clientele, but that's never bothered me even when I wasn't an old fart myself. I find the their employees even friendlier than those at the other Boyd/Coast properties, which already excel in that department. The atrium makes for a nice escape from the casino. As for the buffet, it all depends on day and meal. Sometimes it's very good and sometimes not – just like most buffets. Comps have always been easy to get, which never hurts.

Do you have to go there? Hell no, but it's a fine place nonetheless; and to quote Arnold, I'll be back.

 

I've stayed at Sam's Town almost consistently twice a year for about 10 years. I liked it's location for its relatively close access to other areas. I've switched it up and have been staying at the Orleans and next at Gold Coast to check it out. In addition to what others have said about Sam's Town:
PROS:
Quick shot on the fwy to downtown. Quick shot down Boulder to Henderson casinos. Eastside Cannery and Boulder Station nearby.
Rooms are always clean and slightly above basic. They've always allowed me to check in early (8am or so) if a room was available.
Resort fee is only $5-6/day.
Wal Mart right across the street for any needed supplies.
Casino is two floors and has some coin-in/out games, 100% VP, and just about anything else you'd expect at a local's place.

CONS:
Slightly longer shot up Flamingo to the Strip.
You will need a rental car if you want to get around easily. The shuttle doesn't leave very often and I've heard it's often at capacity. I've never tried because I always have a rental.
Not a great neighborhood to walk around in. You would still need transportation to get to nearby casinos with the exception of Eastside Cannery.
Like Turtle said, buffet is very hit or miss, but it's cheap.

 

Just some added info for those who aren't familiar with Sam's Town :
>> 7 miles to downtown Fremont St.
>> 6.5 miles west on Flamingo to the Strip.

But, as was pointed out, there are Sam's shuttles, and city buses ... however, a rental car would be far more efficient time-wise.

 

I liked Sam's Town for a lunch/drink visit. We had the buffet which surprisingly my wife enjoyed, as did the rest of us. The atrium is nice to have a drink in.

That's about it. Wouldn't spend the time or money to get there without a car, but otherwise it seemed nice.

 

I used to live down off the Boulder Strip and the only place I really enjoyed playing (other than the no-longer-exists Nevada Palace) was Sam's Town.

Of course everything is based on the person - but I had luck there early on their Craps Table's and I LOVE the additional bet for the All-Small All-Tall and All-orNothing (or whatever it's called). Hit it twice rolling myself.

I also love Billy Bob's Steak House which is excellent - Never had the steak but everything else I have ever eaten has been Top Notch!

 

This used to be our home casino for a few years when we were burnt out on the strip. Our last trip 3 years ago was our last. It is no longer a comfortable place for us to play. I used to feel safe and comfortable here.. but the last trip I did not. I was approached by multiple people asking for money, or trying to sell me items. I had "lurkers" take my machine when i went to the ticket redemption machine 5 feet away, even with my chair tipped up, my card in the machine, and my coffee sitting at the machine. My husband was delayed getting the car our of Valet as it was a "Crime Scense" from the night before when a women purposedly ran down a group of people as they were leaving.. I think it was a result of an altercationi at an even that night.. a themed Dance Party. Our host was always helpful, and the staff were always friendly. It is just the vibe and comfort level in the casino that has driven us away. I don't know if it has changed in the last 3 years.. just my perspective.

 

I havent stayed, but have played and eaten there many times( buffy , Billy Bobs, their italian place that is no longer there and the deli) and have really enjoyed it. But you do need a car if ya want to tool around. Plus i have decent luck playing slots ( which is saying a lot) and at times the craps game was very good ( and at times did VERY well there).

 

Samstown is a nice place. Whats wrong with the neighborhood? I have walked to that Walmart by myself with no problems and ne\ver noticed any homeless people around. When I am downtown and run into homeless people, I just say i have no money or tell them to go away or simply ignore them. Sams Town has reat food and a nice friendly bingo hall. True, its not the Strip, but then u dont spend $12 for a cheeseburger either

 

one time I saw a group of 3 hooligans pick on some random older man for a few seconds close to Sams Town. It was really sad. I really wanted to say something but i was alone. Otherwise, they're ass would had been grass.

 

When I look for a getaway from same ol' grind on the strip I love sam's town. Rooms are nice, clean and don't have to walk 5mins to get to an elevator. Lots of good gamblin, food, live music in the lounge, movies and bowling all onsite. Love the big park atrium area for nice walks in morning or night. So peaceful in there. You get the vegas feel without the non-stop grind of the strip. I do enjoy "rubbin elbows" with the locals and eating at some of the local food places as well. Just a nice change up from the strip, for me anyway.
