Day after day, people continue to ask how you get comps.

Simple - you play. The more you play, the more you will get.

The #1 thing that will get you comps is a measurement in their computers. It is called different things like ADT, Theo, coin in,etc.

Bottom line - how much you put at risk on an average day? There are many factors to get to that number. Each game will have a different value to the casino. For example, they give more for $1000 bet on slots than $1,000 bet on blackjack. But in the end, it still comes down to average money bet or played per day.

They really do not care if you are loyal.
They really do not care where you buy your food.
Or how much money you bring.
    Or who you know.
Or if it is your birthday or anniversary or honeymoon.
Or how much you "promise" to spend.
    Or anything else.

How much are you willing to risk, on an average betting day?

Once they have that number, it is simple business decision. They are not about to give away $200 of whatever if you only give them $100. It is a business after all. They will give you a percentage of your daily bet. If you are spending $10,000 and up a day, then things start moving around a little.

And, yes, it does vary from casino to casino.

If you scroll down through posts from yesterday or last week or last month, you will see this same logic repeated.

    Great post!

I wanted to add that there are several different levels of comps. I am highly unlikely to be mistaken for a High Roller, but I can get some small food comps based on my play. Also, my little bit of play gets me back on the mailing lists for the casinos. I get offers for discounted rooms and occasionally some free-play. I don't expect free rooms or full RFB for my couple hours here and there of $0.25 VP play.

I'd love to get those kind of comps, but I am not able to play at the levels they require. Never chase comps. It does not make sense to gamble more than your budget allows in order to get a free room. In the long run, it is more likely that you'll spend more on the gambling than you would on the free room/food. :)

If I'm recalling correctly, I was told a few weeks ago by a Paris host that he looks at ADT as well as points earned during a stay. He can comp up to 40% of points earned.

Las Vegas is a business. It needs to make money and for it to make money, you need to lose money. Comps are about math. It's that basic.

    Nostresshere,

I do believe theoretical comes into play with some casinos. The amount of your actual win/loss doesn't matter as much as the theoretical win/loss. CET does look at ADT rather than actual, although actual can come into play if it is significantly different than theoretical.

However, much is still unknown about the way casinos determine comp levels and your advice is very valid.

    Thanks!

Just like Sonya, I won't be mistaken for a high roller. Admittedly, I don't like to gamble for long periods at a time. The casinos have recognized this- MGM offers me discounted rooms and $5 match play (LOL! yes, seriously...five bucks)

Also worth mentioning that lower roller slot players can get good offers, even from places like Wynn, if they put in enough time. So it's not just all about average bet. Plenty of 1c machine players at Wynn/Encore getting comp rooms.

You are exactly right. ADT usually stands for Average Daily Theoretical.

they generally don't start looking at actual loss until it reaches $10k per trip or sometimes $25k. anything below that and all they look at is the theo loss for determining comps. the main reason for that is you get a much higher percentage of your theo loss in comps than you do your actual loss.

these days it's almost a 100% scientific process where they enter all your data in the computer and it spits out exactly how much you've earned in comps, airfare, etc. i've talked to my host after a trip and he can look in the computer and tell me exactly how many hours i played at what bet, what my total theo was for the trip, exactly how much RFB comps i earned and how much airfare reimbursement i earned, etc. now you may be able to get more than you earned on occasion if you have a good relationship with your host and/or a VP signs off on it, but the computer has everything calculated.

    Harrahd Visa Card

Get a Harrahs visa card. Put all transactions on the card. Obviously pay it off monthly. I put about $1200/month on the card. I've had free rooms at Harrah's properties for the last 5 years with minimal gambling. Plus I get $12/month for food, etc.

where are you staying? if you're staying on the strip, $100/hand should definitely get you some type of F&B comps, but likely not RFB. maybe RFL. if you're staying off-strip or DT, you should have no problem getting RFB.

At $100 per hand on roulette you will get some free food at all properties. If you are staying at the better MGM properties, it will not get you RFB. Probably a reduced room rate and some food. Its all math. At a 00 table your loss % is 5.6 or so, so you lose $5.60 per hand. Say you average 40 hands an hour, which is a lot, then you should roughly lose $240 per hour. Over 4 hours that is rougly $1000. MGM will comp you around 35% of that for $350. So, like I said, a reduced room rate at the better properties and so free food and shows!

thanks for the info. I can't wait. Is it worth it to go to the high limit room? Do you get more comps by gambling in there? $100/spin will get me in.

Ah, but it's not chasing comps if you are planning on playing anyway. It makes sense to try to get the best return for your money and knowledge is power!

This thread is very, very helpful! A big thank you to nostresshere, Sonya and all the contributors to this thread

Nothing at all wrong with what you are saying and I agree.
I am talking about ppl who chase comps. Like will play for 4 hours at $25/hand when their comfort level is $10 because that is what they were told they need to get a free room. When in reality, if they just paid for the room their $10/hand bankroll would most likely last longer.

no, you don't get any better comps by playing in the HL room. the main reason to play in the HL room is the dealers are usually nicer/better, it has a quieter, better atmosphere, hotter CWs and top shelf alcohol.
