    My Trip Report

Xanax, Big Sleepy Guy. Fake Boobs & high heels, Santa Claus and Cougars – 8/13 – 8/16

My best friend (Scoot) and I decided to go on a Girl’s Getaway to Vegas. We are both from Eastern PA. Scoot is 39, presently unmarried, and in a committed relationship. She rides a Harley, which is why I affectionately call her Scoot. I am 44, married for 20 years and a Mom to 2 girls – 9 & 19. We both work full time and really needed a vacation!!!! This will be the first time in Sin City for both of us.

We are both a bit fearful of flying, so Scoot called her Doc & hooked us up with some Xanax for the flight – that made everything just fine . We flew out of the Philly airport non-stop through Southwest. We Paid $296 round trip. It was a full flight, but luckily we were in the A boarding group and got seats in the second row – we wanted to spend the least amount of time on the plane as possible! I had a window seat, Scoot was in the middle and Big Sleepy Guy (as we aptly named him) had the aisle seat. He looked a bit queasy & we were afraid he was going to blow at any moment. I had to pee halfway through the flight & the only way to get to the rest room was to wake up Big Sleepy Guy – oh well – “when ya gotta go†. The flight departed about 15mins late because of a cargo weight issue. The Pilot did a great job getting us into McClarren right on time.

I surprised Scoot with a belated birthday present. Ben from Presidential Limo picked us up at the airport. She loved it! Ben helped with our luggage & presented each of us with a rose and poured champagne for us. Nothing like a buzz at 10am  (thank Goodness I talked Scoot out of taking that second Xanax – LOL). He took us to a convenience store for liquor and bottled water. He then drove us to the Vegas sign & took our picture. He drove us around the strip the rest of the time and then headed to MGM. Ben was great and I highly recommend Presidential Limo.

We arrived at MGM around 10:30am. There was no line at the Check in counter. Our room was not ready, the clerk told me to check around 1:00pm to see if it is ready then. Our room was in the Grand Tower. I asked her if we could have a higher floor & she said no problem.

We decided to have brunch at the Grand Buffet. We were on the package that included the Buffet three times daily. We only took advantage of this for breakfast. The food was good – no complaints. The coffee was excellent. After brunch we signed up for the players club and decided to kill time playing the slots. The only gambling we do is slots. We found some penny Hot Shot machines and lost about $20 each before calling about our room.

We got into our room at 1:00 pm. We were assigned room 28-328 & what a view we had!!! NY NY was directly across from us. We amused ourselves for a while watching the rollercoaster! We had a perfect view of Excalibur as well. The room was nicely appointed & the beds and linens were “to die forâ€. The bathroom was very large and everything was clean.

We got our things situated, changed and headed to the floating river pool. It was packed, but we managed to snag a few chairs. We decided to float the river without inner tubes. We had a great time floating & lying in the sun. After a few hours at the pool we decided to shower, change and visit the hotels right near MGM. We went to NYNY & really liked it there. We did not have luck with the slots. We grabbed to hot dogs from Nathans and made our way to Excalibur. We were not impressed and did not stick around long. We spent some time in the Tropicana. We both came out even on the slots that night. We were tired from the long day and time change so we headed back to MGM by 12:00 & both fell into those luxurious beds!

Next day we were up at 7am – figures! We put our suits on, headed to the buffet, stuck $20 in the slots & then the pool for a few hours. I had a frozen strawberry margarita and Scoot had a pina colada in the “big cupâ€. They were tasty! This became our game plan each day. The pools were very crowded Fri. & Sat. There were a lot of young partying kids & coming from a hick town in PA – I have never seen so many fake boobs and high heels in my life! There was also a fair share of small children – I personally would not want my child in that environment. They had a DJ at the pool on Saturday & he was great! There was also a very sun baked old guy with a long white beard and gold chains in a Speedo shakin’ his groove thang. We named him Santa Claus. He was quite a sight to behold.

We saw KA on Friday night. We sat in section 101J seats 3 & 4. They were good seats, but I would have preferred to be a few rows back. The show was phenomenal. I actually held my breath during some of the acts. I highly recommend it. After the show , we took the monorail to Bally’s and walked around that area of the strip. We watched the fountain show at Bellagio & walked through Paris and visited Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall. We played some Hot Shot machines & each won some cash – not much though. We liked the atmosphere at Bally’s & did not really care for the casino in the Bellagio. It seemed a little “stuffy†for our taste.

We took a taxi to the Rio on Saturday night to see the Chippendale’s. It was very entertaining! We enjoyed it a lot, but really didn’t get a glimpse of much – if ya know what I mean. I had fun watching the Cougar and her husband (yes, the only man in the theatre) sitting next to me. She was desperately trying to get called up on stage – but the Chippies wanted no parts of Cougar Beeotch.

We spent Sunday evening visiting some other areas of the strip. We took the monorail to Harrah’s & then went to the Venetian and TI. Then took a cab to Circus Circus – Scoot insisted on seeing it – Yuk! We took another cab to the Freemont Street Experience. We loved it here and both hit 1000 credit on the Wheel of Fortune slots in Mermaids – woo hoo! We took a taxi to the Sahara & played a few slots there and then headed back to the MGM on the monorail. I must note that we had excellent drink service at most of the casinos we visited throughout the strip. Also, we are not Foodies and really just had the MGM buffet for breakfast and then picked up a quick bite when we were out and about.

So our trip comes to an end with Mike from Presidential Limo taking us back to the airport. Mike arrived exactly on time to get us. We had an uneventful flight back to Philly and slept most of the way there thanks to Scoot’s Xanax.

    A few final thoughts:

MGM is very large, but we found our way around easily. It was a beautiful hotel and I do not feel it was “too large†to enjoy it. The weather in Vegas was steaming, but we went to the pool and the casino during the day and saved our touring for the evening. This worked out well and the heat did not bother us. The best advice I received was wear comfortable shoes. I cannot fathom how these ladies walk around in 4†heels. It’s crazy and we saw a lot of people in pain. The monorail was so convenient for us. We used it often along with taxis. We stayed away from the buses. I would not go on a weekend next time. I guess I’m getting old, but there were too many young obnoxious partiers that couldn’t hold their liquor. There were way too many young kids – what are these parents thinking – the second hand smoke will kill them? We couldn’t get over the very skimpy dresses the girls wore – looked like Hoville. If you get inner tubes for the lazy river pool, don’t leave them for any length of time. Some jackasses took ours. The ATM at MGM charged me $4.50 to take out funds. Finally, enjoy it all & take in as much as you can. I can’t wait to go back!

You are dead-on also about wearing comfortable shoes to Vegas.

Its funny u mention Santa claus. I call him ZZ top, and go to vegas the same time for the past 2 years. the first week in june i am there and there he is in his speedos drinking and talking to anyone that is dumb enough to listen to him. This year was funny, when the DJ was there he got this dopey white girl to dirty dance with him while the whole pool watched and cheered on. It was a fun time though and MGM is a great Hotel for everything!!!

Yes! That's the guy  He dances for the whole pool when the DJ is playing - what a nut. I'm glad someone else saw him! He must be an icon.

Mandalay Bay used to charge $9.00 to use their ATM-don't know if they still do or not.
