    My Trip Report

I knew this trip was going to be good - the plans came together so nicely and with little effort. The trip was two days (solo) in Las Vegas, followed by four days (with my friend) in Laughlin, and finally, another two days (with my friend) in Las Vegas. And after finally landing, getting the car - I'm heading down the Strip and what's the song on the radio? One of my favorites - The Next Episode by Snoop Dogg...it was so neat!

FLIGHT: Continental there and Delta on the return. Both flights were ok, but the first leg of the Continental flight was kind of rocky at points!

CAR RENTAL: I rented a compact car with Alamo for $215.40 for 8 days. When I arrived at the garage, there were no compacts. The attendant points me to a Toyota Prius....well, with the apprehension of the credit card insurance, the newness of the Prius, and the traffic on the Strip, I opted against it. As the attendant and I are talking, a Dodge Cobalt comes in - and I take that one. It was a fair running car - the steep grades coming out of Hoover Dam were a challenge to it - but, otherwise okay. On Saturday night (in Laughlin), we drive across the street to the Pioneer (cheap craps/roulette). I park the car and...it won't turn off. The key won't budge! It's stuck in the "on" position!! I drive to the valet and tell him - he says "oh, you have to put it in park..." I think - I know that! Mr. Macho valet guy tries it - and it will not budge! So, I call Alamo, and they send me another car by tow truck from Vegas. This takes all of three hours! The car stays running the whole time, sitting in front of the valet's booth! I check on it periodically to make sure it's still alive and running! Alamo sends me a Hyundai Sonata and takes $34 off my bill...Fair? or not???

DINING: How many buffets can you eat in 8 days? A LOT!!! The best was The Aquarius (Laughlin) - nice selection and everything tasted really good. The worst was The Flamingo - dishes were so-so, some of the meat was tough, and the desserts were cute, but tasted awful! And the booth seats are not the right height to the table - very uncomfortable. All of the buffets cost around $5 with our 2 for 1 coupons, with the exception of The Flamingo, which cost us $18 each even with a $5 off coupon. What a rip off!

HOTELS: I stayed at Fitzgerald's the first two nights - thanks to someone's advice on the board for recommending the corner room. Slightly larger and nice view of the mountains. The next four nights was at Tropicana Ex in Laughlin. Very nice room - recently remodeled with new carpeting, pillow top beds, down comforters - clean and extremely comfortable. The last two nights was at Four Queens - ok room - very basic and the water pressure in the shower sucked!

    GAMBLING:
VP: Thanks to The Wizard of Odds - my VP game has definitely improved. I've also given up the nickel VP and gone to the quarter VP. At Aquarius (Laughlin), I had a nice session that turned my $20 bill into $180! The next day, I go back and try the same machine thinking I would get the same results....Well, another lady sat down a few seats down and within minutes, got a Royal! That wasn't fair at all! I had a good win at Palace Station - I sat down at one machine and within minutes, had two four of a kind and a straight flush! Then, I went to another machine (at the same bank of machines) and had 44443 dealt to me on Double Double VP!!! That was exciting! Fremont Street paid off well too. I even hit at the airport!! I put $20 in a VP machine, playing DDVP - I thought, this won't hit at the airport - I'll just play 3 credits (75 cents) instead of 5....10 hands later, I get AAAAK - I won $125 instead of $200! Oh well....
LIVE POKER: I played live at The Orleans - just $2/4 Limit - nothing big. I had a jet lag headache going on and really couldn't focus on the cards. Left up $22. I played at Colorado Belle (Laughlin) - I really enjoyed playing there last year, but, this time - not as good. All the players were whining about a new owner and the casino's going downhill, blah, blah, blah....I left about $50 down there. At the Tropicana Ex (Laughlin), I played their $2/6 with a kill. The first session was uneventful - won a little. The next night, it got kind of crazy!! The 2/6 with a kill turned into $8/16 with a kill! A dealer had just gotten off from work, put a shirt on top of his dealer's shirt and sat down with us. He bought in for $200 - a little steep for $2/6. Later, he added a $100 stack to his $300 stack???? I guess it was just to appear more intimidating. This guy was very agressive and getting drunker and drunker by the second. A few players got turned off fast and left the table, but more came. This game was about as crazy and wild as some NL games I've been in. I did get my Aces cracked and got to spin the wheel - I won $200 on that one spin! And the punk that broke my Aces - actually thought I should pay him off? Yea, right! Back in Vegas, I played at Golden Nugget - here's a strange story. I haven't played there in about four years or so. Shortly after I started playing (this time) an old evil-looking woman sitting in the third seat started an argument with another woman sitting in seat 7. The younger woman said to her "You need to lighten up." The older woman responded, with an evil look, "Well, you're not losing right now like I am!" And then she just stared at her for the next 10 minutes! Now, here's the crazy part - four years ago, when I played there last - that old, evil woman was sitting at my table!! Is that crazy?? I don't know why - but, I didn't play any tournaments this time - I kept saying tomorrow, I'll play one - but, never got around to it.
CRAPS/ROULETTE: I love playing both - especially craps - but can I ever win at them? NOOOOOO!!

SIGHTS: I drove through Boulder City to get to Hoover Dam - what a cute town. Boulder City is really a pretty town. Then, I got to see Lake Mead - beautiful sight! Hoover Dam was a site to see - as well as the bridge that's going up! Wow! The two hour crawl to the Hoover Dam was a little crazy though. After the Hoover Dam, I drove down 93 South - headed towards Laughlin. On the way there, I stopped at a ghost town - Chloride. Very peculiar little town. Oatman is another ghost town nearby and much more organized and interesting. Chloride was just kind of weird and eerie...including the cemetery, which was full of yard art and crazy things! After the 4 days in Laughlin, we returned to Vegas for two last days. The day before we left, we went to Mt Charleston! Oh my gosh! This was an incredible sight! Absolutely beautiful views - and the lodge was so charming!!! I'd love to go back and try one of the trails......maybe next spring!

The total cost of my trip was about $840 for airfare, car rental, hotel, and gambling - where else can you go for around $100 a day and have so much fun?

My next trip - in December - will be solo and totally devoted to VP and live poker and only in Vegas (no Laughlin). I'm told Texas Station has 2/6 Limit with a Kill - I'll try that. I wish other poker rooms in Vegas would catch on to the $2/6 with a Kill - it's a great game!

Just a quick comment - everyone's been saying the machines are tightening up - but, I didn't notice this at all. Some casinos, yes, they were tight - but others, no. I saw more wins this time than any other time. Not huge wins, but decent wins.

    Great TR

did a day trip to Laughlin last October, got a bus from Harrahs for a whopping $5.00 and it took us to the Colorado Belle included the free buffett either there or at its sister casino next door , the Edgewater
we were also given a players card to use and if we were chosen , we could win up to like 500.00 in FP , no I wasn't chosen

I enjoyed seeing the other towns outside of Vegas , and remember going another called Searchlight ....

    ty for Sharing
