    My Trip Report

Mods if this is in the wrong section of the board by all means move it.

I have to work a little every morning this trip so I'll post a few live updates instead a long boring play by play.

So far the gambling gods have been kicking me squarely in the nutsack. I'm going to have to regroup or hit the ATM for some more bullets.

L turned $100 free play into $200 real dollars last night at the Suncoast on a dollar Wheel machine. Thankfully it won't take her log to spend it as she is dragging me shopping today.

We ate downtown at MSS's champagne brunch. The champagne turns out to be some $3.00 bottle of "California Champagne". Silly me, I though champagne from California was called Sparking Wine. :???: I mixed in a little OJ which seemed like a wise idea. The food was ahh, ok. Being an old tight wad I downloaded the BOGO coupon Westie posted a link about.

I was approached last night at the Mirage by the ugliest hooker in Vegas. Made me feel old as hell. Haha! Maybe it's the Mirage that is slipping?? I played the roll of old tardo that can't hear and never even looked in her direction.

The Mirage Baccarat Lounge has now has Highland Park 25 and Balvenie 21 year Port Wood Finish along with a good amount of my bankroll. I did my best to drink enough to cover my losses but even I have limits on consumption.

The sunrise was as beautiful as ever this morning. Not sure when I'll get some sleep.

I set up a twitter account during the big MM bash to follow what was happening since I couldn't attend. I've sent in a few "tweets" as their called.

    Stay tuned.

Come on Randy, you haven't posted one in such a long time. I miss the great scotch tales and zigar tales, that I'm living through you since I haven't been able to get there in awhile myself.

Put a little something together, give a dog a bone.

Thanks for the encouragement and kind words everyone.

Gambling hasn’t really improved other than I decided to wager less per hand so they extracted a few less of my hard earned dollars. I can’t remember another trip where I didn’t have at least a few good sessions. So far my best session of the trip produced a meager 2 unit profit. Yesterday’s highlight was overcoming losing what amounted to 8 units on one hand of BJ for a break even session. For the record I pressed my original bet where I was dealt 2, 2 against a 6. I split and was dealt an 8 so I doubled down. The next 2 I was dealt another 8 so I doubled again. The dealer had a 5 under her 6 and tossed herself that dreaded face card for a 21. Everyone at the table sighed. I wanted to puke but like I said I battled back to even for that session. It felt like a win.

In an effort to stay out of the casinos I went shopping with my wife at the Fashion Show Mall. I guess it was better than the pounding I’ve been taking at the tables but not by much. Coach, Nordstrom, Neiman Markus, Victoria Secret, Dillard’s, Abercrombie & Fitch & Hollister were all visited. The highlights were when she decided not to buy the Fendi bag at Nordstrom and the 1 liter bottle of water I got at the ABC store for a dollar. My wife makes for great company but I am not shopping again today.

    For my scotch buddies:

    Macallan 12
    Macallan 18
    Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban
    Dalmore 12
    Johnnie Walker Black
    Johnnie Walker Blue
    Highland Park 25
    Balvenie 21 Port Wood

Gambling less is cutting into consumption and there isn’t much selection out here at the Suncoast where we are staying.

The following cigars fell victim to my torch so far.

Arturo Fuente Work of Art Maduro
    Arturo Fuente Anejo Shark
    Arturo Fuente Untold Story

Tonight I plan to smoke an Opus X Double Corona.

L hit a straight flush playing VP that got her pretty excited for a few seconds. She only pulled $50 out of her $100 free play last night. We have $100 more free play for today.

This morning we plan to meet Norm to go hiking, probably in Red Rock Canyon then we’ll all go grab some lunch. My bankroll is down to $500 but tonight I’ll be sporting my lucky green boxer briefs and plan to stage the greatest comeback in my gambling life.

Here's hoping you stage a stunning comeback:thumbsup: Remember if you're loosing; slow play and drink copious amounts of good scotch. It makes the loosing a little more palatable.

Our day started yesterday by meeting LVNorm across the street from Red Rock Station where we jumped in his SUV and drove to the big red canyon. He planned a short yet moderate in difficulty hike to the Calico Tanks. The sign said it was 2.5 miles. I'm too tired to give details at the moment but feel free to ask if you’re curious.

This cave is at the end of the hike where you look out over Las Vegas and the strip.

We had nice quiet lunch at Red Rock Station. Afterwards I had a much needed yet small win at one of their BJ tables. Funny how winning even a little changes the attitude.

Around 5 pm I dropped L at PH as the mall was calling her name. I headed over to the Mansion to play for a while then grab a drink at the bar. For whatever reason the table had no vibe and I just wasn’t feeling lucky so I cashed out sooner than I expected.

I walk into the bar and see someone I don’t know, a guy named Tom.

    Me: Where is Shane?
Tom: Today is his day off.

We shake hands, introduce ourselves and he offers me a drink. I spotted a bottle on the bar that has never been there before. Dewar’s Signature is the top of heap of the Dewar’s line and this is one I have never had before so I ordered a glass. Tom pours with a heavy hand but who am I to complain?

L & I have made friends with the swing shift bartender named Bob who was due to come on shift at any minute. As it turns out he called in slick. His relief was another guy I had never met named Michael. Tom introduced us and told Michael: “This is Randy. He is one of our best customers so give him anything he wantsâ€.

By the time L showed up I had violated all their best stuff from under the register. Louis XIII, Hennessey Richard, Macallan 25, Macallan 30. I guess give Randy anything he wants really means give Randy anything he wants. My plan was to have one drink but I ended up staying there for 5 ½ hours.

The rest of the evening is a little foggy. L drove us back to the hotel. I remember she played slots for an hour or so then we played some blackjack. When I woke up this morning I apologized for being that “loud obnoxious drunk†Historian hates.

She told me not to apologize and said that I was entertaining. Evidentially Michael and several patrons at the bar tried to get us to stay. The money clip I keep in my pocket was empty this morning, as it should be after a night like that. Michael noticed L eating a piece if chocolate so he kept bringing her more every time he checked on us. I bet her purse is busting with them. I love it when people kiss up to my wife. I smoked my Opus X while drinking all that high end hooch and if I do say so it was superb!

I’m a little disappointed I was too buzzed to stop in at the Mirage to play in their baccarat lounge and have a couple of drinks. We love the atmosphere in there. I’m always amazed to see the same patrons at the Mansion bar. One of them told me he owns a unit at the signature. I forgot you could own them. L never made it to the Forum Shops either. Who knows how much that might have saved me?

I’ve rambled on enough. We had a ball!

Randy - thanks for the update. Thanks for the pic from Red Rock Canyon. Hope the head clears without too much suffering this morning. You guys headed south today or is there more buffoonery to report later?

We made it back home this afternoon. I don't get hangovers like most people. I must be a freak but after a night of binge drinking I wake up feeling better than ever. Getting that buzzed must make me sleep deeper.

    Hi Bonnie!

Always enjoy your Scotch filled excursions Randy. The Mansion continues to provide you with great hooch and great stories. Enjoyed the read. I'll be in Vegas 24-29 May. If you're in the vicinity please give me a ring. Thanks for posting! :D
