We had a couple friends up yesterday for a bonfire - we live in a very rural county. They do not ;-) They've been here once before but it was a spring or summer month that time. So we were looking at my garden and they wanted to know the "odd" crop they'd seen driving up to our house - thought it was brussels sprouts and described. Hubs and I start laughing - told them, "no, that's just tobacco that's been picked".

Now they know they live in NC ;-)

I picked most of the Scotch Bonnet peppers today so I can freeze them. The seed packet I bought had an oddball seed in it that I don't recognize but those are wicked hot. (The 2 on the top right) Might be yellow lanterns. The bonnets are disappointing, about as hot as jalepenos.

I have a friend that worked tobacco with his grandparents back around 1960. I enjoy hearing him tell about hanging it in tobacco barns to let it age. He grew up in Ludowici, Georgia.

Cleaned out our garden plot today for the season. We are headed to Mexico in a little over a week so its time to get it done before the season ended.

We got 2 nice cabbage; this was the first season I tried this variety and we got 4 heads in mid-summer and these 2. Very happy with them.

We ended up with about 5 pounds of brussel sprout from the last monster plant I had. This thing produced all season long. I wish I had planted it in my backyard and it could easily continue to produce well into winter. Overall we are very happy with it though. This was another first try for me planting this variety.

Took out the last of the Starbor Kale also. This could also have easily been kept into December. However our season ends at the community garden on November 1.

    The plot looks so empty!

I still have a planter of carrot (protected from the squirrels which love to dig in them.

I have a micro greenhouse also which has some herbs in it and a rose plant my daughters boyfriend gave to her last year. I over wintered it in my grow tent and it has driven me slightly nuts trying to get the care just right. It has a single rose on it which is great for late October.

A few weeks ago I moved 2 jalapeno plants into my grow tent and has been a chore to get them to adjust but I have found the right balance and they are finally producing again.

It will be soon time to start up some lettuce and maybe another kale to grow over the winter and by mid January it will be time to get my spring plantings started from seed. The weather was a challenge this year for sure but one thing I know about gardening is mother nature is in control, we are just along for the ride.

Your yield per acre was amazing this year!

I am picking my turnip and remaining cabbage this weekend. I am going to till the gardens except for some carrots that i am hoping will carry on to the end of the month. My succession broccoli, peas and cauliflower ran out of warm sun and will not produce. I will try again with a earlier seeding and planting next year.

tilled everything up including carrots. Possible that I might get some but, have enough on plate. Got garlic planted: 80 Korean red and 10 hot Italian.

Widened fence line flower bed and planted tulips for spring. Will fill up with annuals or perennials- not sure which in spring. Need another grape vine as well.

planted infill tulips on other fence line.

finally planted crocuses, tulips, alliums and ??? In berm for spring color.

boxed in asparagus as raised planter. Next year will be year 3 so hopefully start to harvest.

may do some more raised beds next year more for aesthetics than any other reason. Of course it may help weeding in June and juky which is crazy.

going to start indoors 2-3 weeks earlier this year to try to keep up with gr8rwhitenorth and his haul!

new garlic bed - soil hasn’t been worked for at least 50 years. Rototilling through roots and rocks wore me out…

    upload_2021-11-15_22-25-22.jpeg

Threw on a couple loads of “hot” horse manure from a local stable and let it sit for a couple weeks before tilling it in.

Chesnok Red and Lorz Italian garlic ready to go:

I'm curious too. What do you do with that much garlic?
