I was in Vegas last month with a friend of mine.
On Thursday night we ventured off to the Westgate so that I could buy a hat from The Trooper.

My friend, a Vegas local, was not looking forward to the trip because he had a very low opinion of the Westgate. He said he had stayed there a while ago and it was dingy, dirty and he could hardly breathe from all of the smoke.

Maybe it was because my expectations were set so low that I was so impressed with this place. Not dirty, not dingy and couldn't smell the smoke at all. There was a really fun vibe throughout the poker room, sportsbook and the slot area we played (and won, another bonus) at.
The historical pictures throughout the property are another huge plus, as was the live band that was playing inside the casino.

As someone who visits a couple of times a year, I don't know if I'd ever stay off strip, but if I did I'd choose the Westgate.
As someone who is possibly moving to Vegas within the next 7-8 months, I could see Westgate becoming a regular spot.

The sports book is the main draw for the people who venture over there from the strip or downtown.

Nice. Just curious, when was the last time you were there?

Nothing wrong with The Westgate... it's a solid mid-tier property... GREAT Sportsbook! Doesn't get much love around here, cause it's not a Boyd property.

After looking at their video poker inventory, I'll continue to do as I've done for 7-8 years and not bother to revisit. Years ago they had all sorts of playable video poker with .66% cashback, as well as decent food comps and accomodations. I'd roll around $50,000 coin in over 4-5 days and collect a $300+ cashback check on the way to the airport. These days Las Vegas is on the margin regarding taking a potentially inexpensive vacation there. It's doable but it takes more planning and execution than it used to!

I was RFB at Las Vegas Hilton for a number of years. It was an excellent property back then.

Now, not so excellent But even when I've been in there since it's become Westgate, it was never dirty or dingy. And it hasn't been crowded enough to ever be smoky.

It's been about two years since I have been in there. It's possible they have completely let the place go downhill in the last two years. But it seems unlikely.

It's a shadow of its former self compared to its Hilton days. But dirty, dingy and smoky are not how I'd describe it.

IDK, that's just what he was saying, again I don't remember when he said he'd been there. But, while I would have loved to see it during the Hilton days, I definitely think it's a great property now.

I stayed there in July since we had a basketball tournament at the convention center.
    • Casino - smokey, dirty & dingy? No but I thought the crowd was down and out and similar to any lower end casino. The band was playing but I wouldn’t call the casino atmosphere lively.
    • Property (public areas) - has character. Lots of old pictures and statues
    • Homeless guy camped out on the property along the walkway to the monorail. It’s private property so they could move someone along to ensure a better guest experience.
    • Rooms - dirty and dingy would be fair here. I think sewage backed up and spilled on the carpet, so our room stunk. Everything seemed very old and drab. They dumped used towels in trash bags and left them in the hallways. They have warning signs about vaping in the guest elevators. I’m guessing Wynncore doesn’t do that.
Not for me but to each his own.

Supposedly the #1 steak house in LV? Edge Steakhouse.
Anybody try it? I've got reservations in Sept.

The main reason I stopped staying there for LVCC events was that the timeshare dweebs were thick-thick-thick, blocking all choke points, and aggressive as hell, even hitting on solo women!

The next year I moved over to SLS and when I met a cohort at Westgate one day, they had backed off considerably, so maybe this is no longer an issue.

The down-and-out/homeless report is pretty shocking to me. That was one property where I NEVER saw that in the past.

When it was the Hilton, it had a pretty classy crowd. It was hoppin' during big conventions and NFR brought in a good cowboy crowd. It had the Star Trek casino, which was fun. And the main casino and sportsbook area had lots more space dedicated to casino games.

VERY generous earned comp dollars AND cashback. Just about the best VP paytables in Vegas with lots of full-pay games, including on some Spin Poker games that earned points at the more generous slot points as opposed to VP points.

An excellent restaurant selection! A great steakhouse(with the best lobster bisque ever) and high-end Italian joint. A good casual Mexican place. The buffet was good. A large counter service place by the sportsbook with great hot and cold sandwiches. The coffee joint with yummy pastries and other stuff open 24 hours. And a classic Vegas "coffee shop" open 24 hours with great food and one of the best late night steak and egg specials of any place in Vegas.

Back in its Hilton days, most people thought of it as a convention hotel. But it was a hidden gem for gamblers and an elegant place to stay.

We stayed there when it was the Las Vegas Hilton and enjoyed our stay. The one memorable moment was when the shower door fell off it's tracks and landed on my ankle. The resort comped the stay.

I am a local here in Las Vegas and I had written the Westgate off years ago. But I had friends who lived in Turnberry and they loved it there, so I went with them. I had a great time and I go at least once a month there now. Granted, I am not staying in the rooms so I cannot speak to that, but I really like it. It is close to old Vegas for me (hosts who care and come out and meet you, an Excellent Steakhouse -- I love the EDGE and Mark is a great waiter and a good variety of slots). They have a cafe in the middle of the casino that is excellent and I also enjoy their Italian restaurant (next to the steakhouse). They are somewhat generous with freeplay but very generous if you would like dinner, etc. Thumbs up, but it is NOT the Wynn-- let's face it.

Westgate website says that the Fresh Buffet is open 7am-2pm daily...has anyone who has been there lately able to confirm whether the buffet is open at the Westgate these days?
