How are the Fremont St. crowds now?

I haven't read anything about the size and nature of the crowds on Fremont St lately. (It's entirely possible I missed it, be gentle if I did.) For awhile there, I was reading that it was absolutely packed and that the crowds were more raucous than ever before.

As some of you may know from other threads I've started, I'm bringing my bride for her first ever trip to Vegas in April. While the size and nature of the crowds on Fremont could change one way and back again before that time, I was just curious what the current situation was.

We like to party as much as anyone, but given our age (early 50s) and station in life, we'd rather avoid back to chest crowds and over the top raucous. I'm not judging anyone who doesn't mind that, it's just not our speed.

I know if I took her into a crazy crowd packed like sardines with the smell of marijuana everywhere, that she wouldn't have a good time. If that's how things still are on Fremont, I may avoid it this next trip.

Thanks for whatever insight you may have!

My wife and I (50-60) went down there this past Monday night. We have enjoyed FS in the past but this visit was not fun at all. Mistake #1 was going at night. Mistake #2 was taking the Deuce. Much of north Las Vegas Blvd. is down to one lane for construction, so it took a couple of light cycles to get through each intersection after stops that seemed to take forever. By the time we got there (1 1/2 hours later) I was already in a foul mood. The crowd was massive and the whole place stunk of smoke (vape, cig., weed). One walk through was enough for use, so we took the first bus back. Even at our age, we like to be out and have a good time in Vegas, but this ain't it.

I was downtown for 4 days in June, crowds weren't anything that I would call large or rowdy. It's a major city in a legal state, so you're going to smell weed outside. I'm 51 and wasn't bothered by any of it. If there's a free concert happening, you might find thick crowds around that stage, but walking around crowds like that on Fremont is extremely easy by walking into a casino and out through a side door in the direction you're wanting to go.

Fremont Casino has a webcam you can look at for yourself, there's probably others too. I think a lot of what you're worried about also may depend on the time of day/night.

@fwtxbevo - Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that. I kinda thought that might be the case, but was hoping it wasn't. FS was SO fun before covid. Here's hoping things improve in the coming months.

I really don't want to threadjack my own thread, but I wonder if the explanation is as simple as - with fewer people traveling to Vegas, and people who live there not traveling, but needing stuff to do, and FS being "free" those factors add up to it attracting the rowdier clientele and more of them.

When I lived there in my 30's, the idea of going to the strip or downtown out of boredom would be as foreign as deciding to drive nails into my forehead because I was bored. There are better, easier, places for locals to go for boredom. Maybe that's changed. But what does happen, is about 3-4pm on Friday, people driving in from California and Utah start to arrive and the place can fill up really fast. The Greyhound station used to be at the Plaza, and you could tell when they started arriving. I know it's not there now, but it's still downtown somewhere. This crowd was more apt to be 20's, lower income, and there to drink, and I'm betting they're the ones people have been complaining about because with less people, I bet they stick out more.

Honestly, if your wife has never been to Vegas, take her downtown. I wouldn't worry about what I've read here. I haven't seen anything or read anything that doesn't sound like business as usual to me. If something seems to be 'too much' for her or you, a casino entrance is almost always about 20 feet away.

What you're describing had always been the case for me previously. However, this past Monday night was not that. I never felt the crowd was particularly rowdy, just more than I had ever seen before, and not just around the stages. I get the idea of casino hopping, but to me that defeats the purpose of being down there. Additionally, it wasn't just the weed, it was all of the smoke products as I mentioned which made it unpleasant for us as we're non-smokers of everything. Maybe when school is back in session everywhere the crowds will be lighter during the weekdays, until then I'll pass, or I'll visit during the day.

Yeah, I get that Captain Obvious, but I was addressing the OP's particular concerns with my own personal observations this past week.

I’m here now, and it was a Raider football weekend. Saturday was not as busy as usual. I would say the same for today, Sunday. I was here in June and everything seem like pre Covid. Big crowds. This time crowds are not that big. I think people canceled on the Delta Covid when infection rates started climbing again. Still not under control here like most of the country.

Just got back from staying downtown at the Cal. Fremont = crowded but you're not going far. From past experiences, Strip = too effing crowded and you're always going far. Maybe you just stay in your home casino, which can be crazy crowd too. Like walking through Bellagio.

Traffic has slowed since they put the indoor mask mandate back in place. I read something about that somewhere.

We are going in September, and also hoping it's better downtown. I've always loved the history there!
The last time this summer, as an older person, it was not comfortable for us either.

The crowds were so thick and clientelle was worse than I have seen it in 30 years. We left after a couple hours as well.

That being said, I we have another trip coming and will be going downtown. I think when school is back in session and with the mask requirements,
it will be more back to what I remember?

We will also opt to visit during the day and stay and see how it is at night, most likely a weekday to wet our feet again.

I can't give up on downtown, it's a staple for me and a whole different experience than the strip. I will do a trip report and update as an older
    person as to our experience.

If it's her first trip, I would say at least an visit downtown is a must, it's a whole different vibe and experience!

We were there at the same time as @Ty. Crowded in the evening but not overly crowded. There was the bottleneck at the intersection of 4Q, Fremont, Binion’s and Golden Nugget because of the street construction, Fremont and Casino Center. There was also a bottleneck at LVB and Fremont, but I didn’t think it was that bad. Weekends maybe a lot different depending upon the entertainment on the weekend.

I don’t have a problem with the FSE area if I’m in the right mood for it, meaning I know if it’s at night it’ll be busy and hectic and probably kinda crazy, which is fine.If I feel like visiting the area but don’t want to deal with the crazy I go early in the day or early afternoon. I was there over the 4th and went downtown to the GG to redeem my free play and was kinda tired (sixth day in vegas!) so I went around 3-4 pm and it was starting to get busy but wasn’t TOO bad which was ok, if I went 2-3 hours later I just know it would’ve been getting a lot busier and I would’ve been unhappy dealing with some of the non sense so it worked out for me. Time of day people, time of day….guess I should add I’m 56 and have been staying on the strip or at the M last few trips, it is different when/if you’re staying downtown. I get up early and run around but usually am back at the hotel early, whichever one it is, and hang around there…

It will be way different in a couple weeks when schools in California Nevada are back in session. People are cramming in their last vacations right now.

THIS ^^^^^^ is the point! Like, we’re not in it anymore, Toto.

I took my wife of 45 + years there a few years back.
    During the day!

She was mildly put off by the screamer on the adjacent parallel block we parked on.

She was VERY put off, by the Crackhead, scratching herself on a chair in front of Starbucks.

NEVER AGAIN... were words I’ve since heard a dozen times.

    As in never, ever again!

Let the kids do this stuff.

^^^^^^^ Yes cause this stuff never happens on the strip. Been to the strip and FSE many times and have witnessed many off putting thing on the Las Vegas Blvd and on FSE can't say one has a better clientele than the other one. Been to Jerry's Nugget in north Las Vegas many times not known as high class never seen anyone thrown out stayed at the Cosmo 3 times and seen multiple people escorted out every time. I feel that peoples perceptions of an area probably lead to there opinions more than actual events.
