    Hi everyone!!

My MIL called MLife today to update her reservation, and was told by the customer service rep that they were getting rid of room comps in the near future. Their plan is to give more in free play and food and beverage credits. Has anybody else heard of this? I think one of the perks of going to Vegas is getting the free room and as much as free play in food and beverage credits are nice, so is having that free room!

may be dependent on customer play level. I cannot see a strong player having to pay for their room.

If they're the only ones doing it, it sounds like a really bad business move. It also feels like a sneaky ploy to give you less, have you spend more, while thinking you're getting something better in return.

Was this a myVegas comp by chance?

What if they made it all backend comps? You're obligated to play a certain amount each trip if you want a free room that trip.

This wasn’t a myVEGAS comp, just a standard one given through the app/website. The MLife rep told her she was lucky to have a booked room with the comp offer!

This sounds, to me, like a phone rep just making it up as they go along.

Doesn’t make much sense. Maybe if you haven’t played much or at all.

:nono: Doesn't sound right. I go to Vegas with full understanding that casinos will get money from me three ways: slots, sustenance , and shows. I'm not interested in paying for a room in a city that has 150,000 to spare.

Average bet of 425 at Bellagio for 5.75 hours on June 19th.. Before that play had free rooms galore.. Now no comps… Hopefully a glitch but would back up op statement

I haven't played at Mlife since October of 2019.

Just logged in right before typing this. I still have 3 comp nights for Bellagio and Aria on weekdays through December 2021, with a small bit of freeplay and resort credit too.

Just checked my offers, nothing has changed. Still 3-4 nights comped basically every day through the end of the year at all mLife properties with a little RC as well. I can't see them getting rid of comped rooms completely, as others have said, many view that as one of the biggest draws to Vegas. Could they up their play requirements to get upfront offers? Absolutely. But I think this has always and will continue to ebb and flow based on demand. Right now, everybody and their brother is itching to get to Vegas (heck, my parents who have only been to Vegas 2-3 times in their 60+ years are going out next week for just a fun weekend), so the casinos are tightening things up and cutting back on comps, because they can. Things will inevitably shift back the other way, and they will need to further incentivize people to come out, so the rooms and RC and FP will be more freely given again.

I usually get 4-5 nights comped at CET. and 3-4 at Mlife. If this stops, I’ll stop going to Vegas. If I’m paying for a room, there’s plenty of places I’ve never been before I’d like to try. I live around 75 minutes or so from AC, if they don’t give me a free room, I have absolutely no desire to go there either. This is the first summer I think I’ve never been able to get a room comped midweek in AC. I can’t get a comped room midweek there until the second week in September.

The problem is that a room is the cheapest thing they can give away. F&B has a specific cost, just like freeplay, while a room that would otherwise be empty costs virtually nothing. It also brings in gambling revenue.

A friend of mine, who is a big player but not a whale, was comped a Lanai at Mirage by his host simply because it would have been empty.

...and as an absolute minnow of a player, I just booked 3 comped nights at Planet Hollywood. Granted that's not an MGM property, but it would take all the companies to agree to stop comping rooms for it to go away. It's certainly ebbed and flowed from the 2008 financial crisis to today.

Before I go "embarrass myself" by asking my host about what OP's MIL said.

Let me say that I find it HIGHLY UNLIKELY that this would ever happen, and either the mLife rep was "blowing out his/her a**", or OPs MIL misheard/misunderstood what was being said.
