A few months ago I posted about our experience at The Plaza with our group of about 20-30 people who get together a few times a year in Las Vegas (and sometimes Tijuana). One of us gets one of the one-bedroom suites at The Plaza for all of us to meet up and have a drink between gambling and eating and running around LV.

For many years now, I have always had four days of comped rooms at the Boyd properties and stay there but in the spring, the Plaza sent me an offer for three days of a comped room so I tried it out. It wasn't terrible but I was unimpressed and wasn't planning a return to stay there based on all the little things that didn't seem to go right.(see post here)

To their credit, Gary Vickery reached out to me directly about the situation and promised to make things better for our next trip. Without a doubt, he delivered on his promise! :headbang:

My husband and I got the one-bedroom suite thing this time and most everyone else in the group booked one of the Luxe rooms. They all raved about how great the Luxe rooms are - highly recommended! Gary also hooked up our group with wristbands to watch the fireworks from the pool deck on 4th of July. :usa:

I'm still a bit miffed that housekeeping has to be scheduled the morning prior but they were quick to bring up fresh sheets and towels upon request. Our room didn't have Kleenex (same problem last time) but again, they brought some up when asked.

The AC was cold and the pillows were fluffy. WiFi was strong throughout our stay.

They had the Players Club desk open and signage indicating that if you were there during their closed hours, you could go to the cage and get help.

As before, the staff was great - friendly and helpful. I did not walk into the casino host office this time as we didn't charge anything to our room.

Bell service is back and running, though it seems they have only one bellman on duty at any time. Valet is still closed. :(

My gambling losses this trip were more than usual but we had a great time overall! Thank you @PlazaPoker for following up with me and making things much better this time around... see you soon!

Just out of curiosity, what's the restaurant situation there like right now? I remember being there at times when the only option was like, Subway or something.

Annoying about valet being closed. It's open at most places now... not that I'm suggesting they get any ideas, but if they charge for it, it's not too much of a loss leader. And for many people coming from out of town, the convenience is worth a few bucks (though I still disagree with paid self-parking).

@44inarow - all the restaurants were open and they had a bartender finally at the back bar by the sports book in the evenings. As far as I could tell, HHAGG was open all day and evening, though I don't know how late they're open. The food court stuff was open but I didn't eat there. The coffee bar thing closes in the early afternoon - don't know if that's always been the case though. That said, I don't like the current coffee bar. Years ago, they had a great setup in there with excellent coffee and a nice selection of Italian candy bars and treats.

The self-park doesn't charge if you have a room there. It was $30 or $40 for the days we were there if you weren't staying at the hotel though!

I've come close to booking the Plaza, but nixed when it came time to book. I just don't care for the casino, especially the lighting. I'd still like to try it, so next trip I'll spend a couple of hours there and see if I can get over it. Most comments are positive.

I was also thinking of staying at the Plaza based on positive reviews on here. I have played there before but never stayed. I was getting monthly offers but unfortunately, the last offer I received expired in April. I was hoping to book a trip to Vegas the first week of November.

The first week of November strikes me as a slower time in LV, so it might be worth calling them up and seeing if they will hook you up with a similar offer. The worst they could say is no....

Each time I've had to call The Plaza, they were always helpful and friendly.

Thanks, I might do that. That week is actually going to busy with PBR, SEMA, and a Raiders game I think plus what ever else I can't remember at the moment. Those are mostly affecting the strip though I guess and I already have my room locked in for that portion of my trip (splitting 3 days on strip and 4 downtown for the week stay). The trip is still up in the air though since I, nor my sister and BIL whom I would be going with, have no intention of spending all that money on the multiple COVID tests that is currently required in order to go to Vegas from Canada and get home again.

Glad to hear about the Plaza. I was comped there maybe in '14 or '15 in the south tower after contacting a host on here. I like the casino, but the room/tower was not in great shape (room wasn't level, windows broken in other rooms causing wind in the hallways...). Between the podcast and people on here, I may give it another shot one of these days.

Good to hear. I stayed there about 15 years ago and it was just "okay". I've been playing there the past few Vegas trips and debated about giving them another try.

Glad to hear it worked out for you!

I am curious about the air conditioning issue. Does it work depending on tower or floor? I stayed there on a comp back in April and the room would not cool down at all. I just got a new offer for 3 nights but am hesitant to book unless I have an idea of what to ask for at check in to make sure I have functioning air conditioning.

Happy you had such a good time!

I love HHAGG and Plaza's green-chip double deck game loves me.

I moved away from downtown, but I've definitely enjoyed my Plaza stays. I like what they did with the pool deck. They started with very little and made something of it. I definitely appreciated that.

Thank you for reporting. My first ever trip there was 4th of july weekend, so I will defiantly not see offers until November and December. Thats all I wanted to know, thanks. :)

Gary Vickery does post on here at times. I think he is still a host or maybe moved to the hotel side of it. I would call and ask for him. I believe he could give you info on the right room. Worth a try.

This is great to hear. the Plaza has always had a special place in my heart. Where I stayed on my first trip 25 years ago, the Jackie Gaughan/Omaha connection, and great past experiences. We still stay occasionally, and may do so again in a few months!

I’ve always enjoyed the Plaza. I like the VP and craps and I enjoy playing at their VP bars. I find food comps pretty easy to come by. It’s really a slice of old Vegas and I love it. I’ve never stayed their but my summer trip isn’t going to happen this year but I’m planning a fall trip. My fall winter trips don’t require a real resort to stay at and the Plaza is in the running this time.

I just stayed on a 3 night comp. I appreciate the fact that they have playable video poker at their bars. The bartenders at the main bar did a great job. The room was clean and comfortable, I stayed in the south tower. I like Pop Up Pizza's Mike's style pizza. I ended up eating that two nights in a row... I too have seen an improvement at the Plaza. I had a lousy stay there 5 years ago, but I have enjoyed both my stays there over the last year after giving them another chance.
