Would you do a weekend trip without a hotel room?

I'm looking to go out to Vegas for a quick weekend and was wondering with the super high hotel rates would it be possible to just come in Saturday morning and leave Sunday night without getting a hotel room?

Since the casinos are 24 hours again I would think it would be possible with enough energy drinks and will power what are your thoughts though?

I mean, you can in theory, but I'm way too old for that.

I might've done that in my early 20s, but now that I'm 41 there's no way. I would probably end up passed out drunk somewhere. I need to have my room as a refuge to go to when I get tired of gambling or being in the crowds ;)

If you're driving, I suppose you could sleep in your car...

It all depends on your age and stamina and alcohol intake. At some point it becomes unhealty, especially if you're pounding Five Hour Energy to get through it. I've done this numerous times in my twenties, driving from LA on a Friday night, staying up all night, driving back Saturday. 20 years later I'd never do this, especially not the driving part. But I didn't drink at all during these overnighters, so that helped.

I have done this many times. Usually super bowl weekend, fly in Saturday morning, usually only getting a hotel for Sunday night. Or bridge days between hotels without a room for a day. Leave bags at bell desk, nap by the pool, easier in my younger days though. The problem without discipline is, it is too easy to spend even just 300 bucks gambling overnight which would more than pay for a room.

The nap at the pool is a good idea (but might be complicated by this summer's long wait times, etc.), I've done that a few times, where you just need an hour to refresh.

Would I? No. But that doesn't matter. If it works for you, go for it.

One thing to consider is the "high" cost of rooms versus gambling -- in a diminished state -- and how much that could cost.

I'd think leaving earlier Sunday would be more feasible than trying to do this with a flight Sunday night.

Saturday morning to Sunday evening without any rest in Vegas just seems like a bad idea. At some point you need to rest - even if it's only for a few hours.

You could always look at, like, a Courtyard Marriott somewhere off strip and just Cab it back and forth just so that you have someplace to crash for a few hours vs. just trying to push through.

Not me. There's got to be a cheap room somewhere.

Possibly not, right now anyway. Lots of hotels sold out. Might improve after June 1st.

After 24 hours I find not having a place to crash is not negotiable. Get a cheap room at The Longhorn at Boulder Highway and Flamingo, they're clean. Take the 202 bus, taxi or Lyft there. Once you're in the bed you'll be so glad you did.

Go find an Airbnb in a residential area! They're bound to be a lot cheaper. Or maybe go camping somewhere if you have a car...

Back when they used to have storage lockers at the Imp it was not unusual to see a guy get a fresh shirt from the locker, slap on some deodorant, and head back out. You'll have to carry your stuff with you unless you check a bag with the bell desk. Still cheaper than a room. Not for me, though. Going that long without sleep is a security risk.

It's possible, just not a great idea. Like Ken said, this adds to casino time, which could more than pay for a room most times. When i was young, I pulled more than a few all nighters and by that third day I was dead. I really can't see the last 18-24 hours being a whole lot of fun.

Can it be done? Sure. Would I do it? Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck no.

Sounds miserable, possibly dangerous (driving with inadequate rest?), and I can't imagine it will save you any money since you'll be spending all of your time in public places, most of which expect you to spend money. Get an Airbnb or something if you can't swing a hotel room.

No way, I would not even do this in my 20s. It seems like a painful challenge- to even attempt this.

If you have airport lounge access (Centurion/AmEx or Priority Pass, or $35 for The Club in T3), there are several lounges that you could probably sneak a quick nap in, and most of them have showers too. They require same-day flights to access so if you're leaving late Sunday, you could theoretically show up at 7A on Sunday, shower, nap, then head back out and come back for your flight that evening.

Sleepinginairports has some good guides for places to nap at LAS too.

Back when I was in my 20s, two co-workers and I drove to Vegas from LA without a reservation.

One of them said he was rated and could get us a room at the Rio. His host said no bueno but the co-worker was persistent so we waited for a miracle.

I fell asleep a couple times in the sports book and a security guard kept telling me “Sir, you can’t sleep here.”

I ended up getting us a room elsewhere. I don’t recommend doing Vegas without a room, especially if you drive in.

At least if you drive you can catch a siesta in your car.

Young or old, you should never try to do that. It is a terrible idea.
