The state came out with numbers last week that showed the Cal and Fremont were pretty flat compared to other DT properties. I think starting in June that numbers will start moving up. My guess would be late August or Sept as was noted earlier in the thread.

I listened to the earnings call and I did not hear a thing about MSS unless I missed something. Disapointing. Just stuffy business stuff with a lot of puffing. I also learned that the 4k+ bankroll that I bring to gamble with is not work their time. They are only interested in "rated" players. I assume that means table game players?

I listened to the call, too, and didn't hear any mention of Main Street Station, either. I thought I had read somewhere to expect an update, but I suppose they wanted to emphasize the markets where they were showing improvement.

Seems like they should look at diversifying their marketing demographics. Are they really that dependent on one state?

Boyd did well except DT. Until their Hawaiian traffic returns, even the Cal and Fremont probably won't even excel.

The earnings report also mentions Orleans as an underperforming property without destination visitors.

MSS? I'll disagree that it's dependent on one state. I played over $10k per day at Boar's Head Bar for many trips, many years. Met a ton locals and mainlanders..

No doubt. But I think without Islanders filling the Cal, there's not much reason to open MSS. I stay there and it does draw many mainlanders. I also have played craps at MSS with a lot of Hawaiians and have seen many of the same at machines. Boyd DT might survive without Hawaiian traffic, but it won't flourish.

Boyd threw their downtown livelihood with the Hawaii people. Since gambling is illegal in Hawaii Boyd made a living off the gamblers from Hawaii. And the Hawaiians haven't disappointed for the past 30 - 40 years, keeping their downtown casinos filled with gamblers from Hawaii.

Unfortunately covid has shut down Hawaii and travel to and from Hawaii. Travel is starting to open up but is slow to recover. While the CDC is lifting masking restrictions Hawaii still requires covid tests before entering the state and still requires masking everywhere. But one of the main problems is that Boyd is counting on the elderly crowd from Hawaii (people over 50) but they are still afraid of covid and are afraid of travelling (even though they have been vaccinated they are afraid of variant strains and catching it). That's why the charter market won't start up until September, hopefully the older crowd will feel more comfortable to travel by then since most people will have been vaccinated.

But many of us from Hawaii are going to vegas, just not as many for them to reopen MSS. I hope that MSS can reopen their casino soon but I haven't heard if the crowd at the Cal is starting to pick up for the to justify reopening the MSS casino.

We have a similar problem in Hawaii. Tourism is what drives the state and while some people want to diversify so we aren't as dependent on tourists they still can't come up with any other industry that will bring in the money like tourism does.

I'm ticked that MSS isn't open. Maybe I should stay home till it opens. Eff Boyd?

I was surprised the daily times and congestion at the craps table and table games—bj, roulette, pai gow, 3 card let it ride etc were busy beginning about 10. Previously open around noon or 2ish. I just didn’t think the boyd populace would go for the 10$ minimum. :nono: I was wrong. But still came out 20$ ahead. :)

I think that if Boyd ever found out you'd boycott them due to not opening MSS they would open it in a heartbeat. ;)

i am pretty sure that “rated” players means players who have b-connected cards. Unrated players are the players that don’t sign up for the card or don’t use the card in machines or while playing table games. Casinos like unrated players because they don’t have to spend money marketing (offering comps) to them and casinos seem to get a pretty steady business from unrated players. There is a reference to that in the Q & A section of the BYD conference call.

With the earnings last quarter, I suspect it will be opened soon. The rumor was it is all about the Hawaiian visitors coming back and they have not yet. For me, as a local Las Vegan, it leaves a big hole downtown. I usually like to park in the outdoor parking there at MSS--saunter in to the casino, go to the cage and have my parking validated -- but with the lack of activity at MSS, it is a bit frightening late at night.

Thanks for the explanation. I did think it was odd, though, that they also highlighted the number of people signing up for their BConnected cards. Unrated play is good, but converting unrated players to rated players is also good.

And giving those freshly converted rated players a lot of diddly squat for the first tier is
