The Las Vegas’ newest resort-casino is set to open next month without one of the most contested charges among travelers: resort fees.

The off-Strip Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is set to open March 25 with no resort fees, complimentary self-parking and free Wi-Fi. Parking will be available at two parking garages located off Harmon Avenue and Paradise Road.

According to a Friday news release, this offering falls in line with the Virgin Hotels brand, which does not charge resort fees at any of its properties.

“We are so proud to be one of the first major casino-resorts in Las Vegas without a resort fee,” said Richard “Boz” Bosworth, President & CEO of JC Hospitality, which owns Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, in the release. “Beyond this, Virgin Hotels Las Vegas will exceed expectations with valued amenities and added benefits.”

Once open, the property — formerly the Hard Rock Hotel before undergoing a $200 million renovation — will offer three hotel towers with more than 1,500 rooms, a 5-acre pool and entertainment complex and a 60,000-square-foot casino run by Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment.

This reminds me of Caesar's bragging about no resort fees.

Hopefully this doesn't go the same way

Resort and parking fees are two of the most bitched about discussion points on VMB. Wonder how many people will actually consider
voting with their feet... at least for a try.

My guess is virtually none, though many will say they will. Far too easy to continue to whine about them.

I don't find it hard to compare prices including the resort fee. I'll be staying wherever provides the best total value, resort fee or not.

I applaud this and hope it goes well for them, but agree with @smartone in that not enough people will vote with their $$ and at least give the property a shot. It is easier to stay with MGM or CET and continue getting your comps even if you have to pay a $50/night resort fee. I am probably in that camp, where I loathe resort fees, but will probably continue to stay at Aria with a comp room and paying the $50/night resort fee rather than paying full freight at Virgin..... My guess is they start charging both within a year, so they can artificially lower their room rates to be more in line with their competitive set.

Got an e-mail from them today indicating I have "earned" Core slot club status. Looked it up and that means I am at the same level as a person who never set foot in Hard Rock and was opening an account for the first time. Probably not a great first greeting.

Did you have higher status at Hard Rock?
Maybe Virgin/Mohegan didn't get the full player database?

Yeah, that's going to be my question -- I think a lot of us have kicked around the thought that they might as well just raise the rates a bit, as opposed to adding a "resort fee" that ticks everyone off. Will be interesting to see.

Free parking seems to be the norm off Strip, except for Westgate during big LVCC events.

Now resort fees? I wonder how long that will last? Remember that CET used to make a big deal about No Resort Fees (tm) until they had them.

SLS/Sahara always had free parking, and I'm still getting off and on No Resort Fee offers from them, but if the Monorail continues to be shut down I will probably book something closer in for my Big Return Trip, after I'm good and immune that is.

I'm wondering how the VP will be when they open. I see the casino is run by Mohegan. Don't they have a casino in Connecticut? Does anyone know how the VP is there?

I haven't been there since maybe 2015, but IIRC it might have even been 9/6, and nothing like the short-pay games we have around here. The buffet there was outstanding!

I too will be very interested in the VP rates. I am a big fan of Virgin stuff in general, the airlines / trains etc... all really good in my opinion. Keen to try the hotel when we are allowed to again!

They do indeed have a massive casino there, and they've also branched out into management (much as they're doing here), with deals in Pennsylvania and Atlantic City. Not sure about the VP, though.

Yeah...I doubt their rates will appear competitive to a casual observer on Expedia when they are $50 higher than they would be with a resort fee like all their competitors have.

I give it 3 months, 6 max before they realize “if you can’t beat em, join em.” Very few people will actually vote with their feet on this one.

It remains to be seen what sort of buzz this place will generate and what the vibe will be like, but even with the newness factor they will have to price themselves lower than the top tier Strip properties in order to fill the rooms.

Six of one, half dozen of the other on RFs. If hotel A's rate with RF is less than hotel B without the RF, I choose A.

This has nothing to do with this parking/RF conversation, but my Uber driver was all bent out of shape about it. “It’s gonna be a real shit show for about 3 weeks, and then nobody will go there...”

I’ll check it out for sure. Stay there? Hmmmm...

Gotta love the talking point about one of the first with no resort fees. Uh, actually every other hotel already beat them, but then had resort fees. Personally I would rather have a $50 a night room and no resort fee than a free night with a $40 resort fee. Yeah, it's a bit more expensive but at least you aren't completely lying to me about what the fee covers. As if anyone ever believed that something that added hundreds of millions, if not billions to the bottom line was actually covering internet and the pool.

Same thing happened to me. I was Platinum there for many years, but used all my points up the year or so before they closed and wasn't playing at the same levels for the last year either.
