Park MGM / Nomad to Reopen as 1st Smoke Free Casino on Strip

I understand the non-smokers rejoicing over a smoke free environment. Go for it...
If the experiment fails then you have nobody to blame but yourselves.

 

What's going to be considered a "failure" though? Park MGM's business was not very good to begin with, if it stays about the same would that be a failure or a success?

 

Jinxed myself. Traveling, played at a local tribal. First slot... woman next to me was smoking, no ashtray, just flicking ashes on machine and floor. Most machines separated by Plexiglas so smoke didnt bother me.... but irritated me. 45 minutes later.... different machine and neighbor....airflow in the casino and the direction she blew smoke... no Plexiglas.... I was in a cloud. I can't remember the last time I moved due to a smoker. I doubt its 3-4 times in my life.

I'm certain these things occurred because of my post yesterday.

 

We always stay at the Aria and play with my elderly parents at the Park because of their lower table limits.

We are all non-smokers and would consider staying at the Park if the rooms are decent. But we keep hearing the walls are thin.

Except at the Nomad, which we hear is quiet.

But every picture of the Nomad rooms shows a bathtub in the bedroom...which is so weird to me. Are all the rooms in the Nomad like this?

 

Not all. For our stay, we needed two beds and were deciding between the classic two-Queen room and the Salon Double and ultimately chose the Salon because it had more space. Neither of those two styles had the stand-alone bathtub. The classic King may not have it, either.

 

The normal rooms don't have that tub, they just haev the walk-in shower. The Atelier rooms have the big tub in the room.

 

While in LV last week both the wife and I noticed a lot less smoking in the casinos, whether this had to do with the masks or less people being smokers we found it a breath of fresh air. I don't think this will hurt business during the pandemic times, and when that ends )if ever) people will be used to not smoking as much in casinos I believe

Would love to see data on gambling by smokers Vs nonsmokers. The fact it’s still allowed in casinos when only 15% of people smoke would seem to indicate there are vast differences.

 

I'm very sure that the MGM PTB did their math homework before announcing this little experiment.

If they keep it...it worked....an ingenious idea...

If they drop the idea...it didn’t...they can always say it was a preventative measure against the virus...

 

I think its just part of the " keep them sitting, keep them spending " mentality.

all the while pumping more money into the machines.

I definitely agree with the logic but I would personally stay longer at my table or machine if there wasn't smoking because it often does the opposite and drives me back up to the room.

 

I had to go SO bad one time, late at night, by myself, and I didn't want anyone to take "my" machine. I can't recall if it was the ONLY Britney one I could find, or if I had some bonuses halfway earned (you know, Aladdin or the like) or if it had just been cold so it was destined to become hot "soon" - LOL!! How I have learned.

 

I predict they will not only be successful, more will go non smoking. CET and MGM have enough casinos to make a few more smoke free. I don’t believe the whole city will go smoke free, but it will be nice to have smoke free options.

 

I would pay good money for a hotel that promises happy, friendly security but also enforces the rules, like not smoking weed on the casino floor. I don't care if you eat the brownies right next to me, but save me from the smell. I literally voted against legalizing weed in CA just for the smell alone, well that and possible stoned driving but anyways... speaking of security, I can't believe it's the DRINK ladies' job, at least at Caesar's Palace, to ID check 33 y/o me and my 24 y/o boyfriend at the Dolly Parton machine every single shift change or 15 minutes. And not for drinking, literally just for the gambling.

 

Before Silver City went non smoking they offered 10 cent minimum craps so I think they were grasping at straws to stay open. It was a small property so not much of a sample. I hope it works out for Park MGM.

 

Smoking/non is *a* factor, not *the* factor... I’d probably still almost always be at places with better VP even though they tend to be more smoky TBH Park could use an overhaul overall - they put in a few GenX/Millenial-friendly venues but then don’t do much if anything at all for the gaming floor, rooms, pool, etc. etc.

In this situation, it’s HUGE....kind of. This is the first time that I’ve ever seen a vibe associated with the casino. It’s going non-smoking!!!

Now if the vibe doesn’t carry over and produce the necessary results....smoking again. They can easily sweep it under the rug...

 

I might in the minority, but I don't think Park had the epic embrace they were hoping for. (We started at Monte Carlo as semi-regulars, and we were close to many staff, who, pre-rollout, kept saying it was going to be the next Aria or Bellagio. I dont know why they didn't try to mirror upper mid-tier like Mirage, but with a great location. But heh. I'm a peon.) I was pretty disapointed in the renos, but ironally, I loved the Tower renos at Luxor, which were more quiet.

This being said, if I'm NOT totally crazy/in the minority on thinking MC/Park's reno might have been more anticlimactic/less powerful than they hoped for, I think the smoke-free trial could be a VERY wise move. Supply and demand. No major "smoke-free" competitors on the strip yet, so IF they market it right, they'll have access to an uncharted market. I dont believe Park is the cash cow they hoped, so why not try a different angle? Not a lot to lose, and they can always change the policy.

We have a soft spot for Monte Carlo as it was out first homebase as a budding couple years and years ago. I'd love to see them leverage this to a win, and I know many would love a smoke-free casino!
