    Same here. Traffic offenses only.

In Las Vegas, however, I have been pulled over twice in those stupid DUI roadblocks. Once I was cold sober.

The other time I made the mistake of admitting that I had "a few casino drinks over the past several hours" and they had me out there walking the line and standing on one foot and touching my nose with my eyes closed and all of that, all while my so-called friends in the car were laughing their @$$es off at me! :( Those drinks were so watered down they were essentially placebos!

Yep, the groom should know better and not worry about pissing off his friend at his own wedding. Bad choices have consequences.

If a $2k pricetag would end discussion of this trip you might want to consider telling him to watch himself and not get arrested for something stupid.
Aside from the money that jail/citations would cost he would also get to waste his weekend away in jail and miss out on the party. Possibly miss his return flight. Could be a couple days before he could get a flight. This could easily cost more than 2k.

Sucks you've got to deal with it. I can't understand these types of people.

Some of the advice in here has good intentions but not practical. OP will be a buzz kill if he's clocking the guy's drinking. Zip ties? Pre-researching attorneys? Wow.

Plan some non- or not- heavy drinking activities. Want to all go shoot some guns out in the desert? We need to be pretty sober for that, so let's not do shots before that. Plan that for late in the afternoon to lengthen the sober time. We have a very nice dinner coming, can't get stupid drunk before that. Plan for a late dinner again.

So the danger zone is late night obviously. Can't be his mommy. And don't want to limit everyone else's fun. If he's gonna do dumb things, it's gonna happen. If he lands in jail, I would take your time bailing him out. Preferably on the way to airport back home.

One of the few celebrities I’ve actually seen walking through a Vegas casino was Chuck Norris, and he was surrounded by bodyguards...to protect you from his body!

Wow, I might be single soon. Let me know if things work out between the 2 of them. He sounds like my type.

I wouldn't go. I'd fake a kidney stone. Honestly. If I did go. I would disavow any responsibility whatsoever. First sign of trouble I would walk. Shit happens, my plane leaves at X time and my ass is on it. No bro codes. None. Zero.

This might be stating the obvious. But maybe plan ahead with a few people. Are you going to bail him out. If so who is and where the money is going to come from. Maybe do a quick search for a lawyer. Does not sound like he is your friend so not sure if you feel responsible to do anything. But think ahead of time will I try to restrain him or just disappear into the crowd so I am not associated with him . Will I try to bail him do I even know who to call the next day.

Two things for me if I knew a guy I was going to Vegas with was like that.

    1) I wouldn't go with them.

    2) I wouldn't go with them.

But if I had to, I'd be straight up before the first drink was consumed and tell them, "You get arrested, you are on your own". That level of idiocy wasn't cool in high school and it sure as sh+t aint cool in Vegas. And if you get in a fight, we will be there to make sure you don't get killed. That's it. But to even avoid that, as soon as he starts up, just walk away.

    All problems solved. You're welcome.

Reading back through because I find the individual responses really intriguing. Good thread.

    Couple additional thoughts:

    1) I know OP was queasy about Vegas, but I actually think it’s less likely to be an issue there. Mr. Looking For A Fight (they're all the same) tends to find that fight when he gets bumped, gets a drink spilled on him, gets cut in line at the bar, etc. I’ve been to “big” city bachelor parties in Nashville, New Orleans, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, etc.- now that I think about it, Vegas is the only one where I haven’t seen that type of confrontation. Other places pack people in like sardines, Vegas properties are cavernous. Nightclubs notwithstanding.

    2) Whether you have a loose cannon in your group or not, it’s not a bad idea to get to/near your home base before the very end of the night. When you’re drinking that hard, everybody’s lights go down at some point. This guy, and anyone else that goes past the tipping point, will be a lot easier to manage if all you have to do is get him to the elevator as opposed to halfway down the strip.

Definitely- I posted a thread a while back about my friend and her husband getting booted out of a room that was in her brother in law’s name. Her brother in law was arrested in the room around 2 am and they were forced to sit in the hall for hours while police dealt with him and then they were walked out of the hotel. It was either PH or Aria I forget. It was a weekend and the only thing open was Circus Circus. Her brother in law was released but there were some serious charges. It was her worst Vegas trip ever. Don’t stay in a room that has his name on it.

I applaud you for wanting to do so much. I have friends like you. I call them fixers. Nothing wrong with that. But it sounds like you may be sacrificing your fun to take care of him.

That’s not what the girls at the Palomino said. I mean you did back out of a verbal contract for an $800 Louis Vuitton - poor girl was just trying to make a living. Okay maybe you never agreed to buy her the purse but...she had expectations. Girls need purses.

If this guy is the hot heat you say he is, an arrest may be something to give him the wake up call he needs. I could be wrong, but I believe they just release you once you’re sober, that’s what I remember seeing on a Vegas cop show. That’s assuming he doesn’t assault anyone.

Love all the advice this turned into way more fun than I thought. I love all your perspectives.

Just so we are all on the same page, and some background, Groom and best man have been friends since they were 18 (late 30's now) they met in army boot camp, were deployed together, married women who are BFFs, and live (almost) next to each other. I've know the groom for 10+ years but mostly from activities away from his core group of friends. So i'm sorta the outsider here. My goal if this trip happens is to keep the groom as focused as possible on his weekend and not have to worry whats going on with his best man and so on. Also i will NOT babysit this guy at all, my nature (and my job) is to fix problems when they arise. So i'm doing my research so when this happens, and i'm SURE it will, i'll know what i need to do and where to go.

One thing i've taken away from this thread from a lot of you and i'm 100% in agreement is I will let him sit in jail or holding or whatever for as long as I can.

he's been arrested a lot in the past. From what some of the guys were telling me the other night he has a standing reservation at his county jail. I don't know what for but i'm sure alcohol is involved.

Everyone here was focused on suggesting issues regarding trespass or bail, so let me provide a different perspective and chime in with my Vegas story.

A couple of years ago, when a friend and I were walking past a strip casino at 2 am, one guy from a group was waiting at the 'regular' line in the taxi stand and when a cab pulled up, another guy walked into the VIP line and flashed a premium players card and tried to grab the car. The first guy shoved him back, words were exchanged and they started punching each other. The next moment, both groups started brawling (maybe 6 to 8 people in each group). Security was there quickly, but one of guys was either punched or pushed (I didn't quite catch it), and he fell down with his head hitting the the sharp edge where the road meets the casino pavement. He was stunned and another dude (not even the guy he was fighting with), stomped him on his face hard. A minute later they were separated and when the cops came, the guy on the pavement had a broken skull, and was lying unconscious with a huge pool of blood around his head. Me and my buddy gave a statement to the cops, but luckily we were never called after that to testify or anything. The cops probably had what they needed from cameras or maybe the lawyers reached a settlement. The entire fight happened over the 10 second wait it would have taken for the next cab in the line to come by.

Another story, not Vegas related. I was at a bar in Cincinnati in 2009 when two random guys got into an argument. Pretty standard, one of them hit on the other's girlfriend without knowing it. Words were exchanged, some shoving and one punch, but bouncers broke it up and the guy with the girlfriend (who threw the punch) was kicked out of the bar. 30 min later, a bunch of police lights lit up the bar. Apparently, the guy had waited or was loitering outside when the second guy came out. More words and a fight ensued, but the first guy (with the girlfriend) had a knife on him. Not sure how bad the injuries were.

So my advice, as with everyone else

    1. Don't go. If the groom likes the best man in spite of the type of (drunk) person he is and can't control him, that it's his problem to deal with.
    2. If you absolutely have to go, when the screaming starts and you cant defuse the situation (say by dragging the best man away), the walk away. Staying, or even worse, getting involved in the fight is a bad idea. If casino security or the cops think you were involved with the fight, then you may not be in a position to help anyone.
    3. Most importantly, remember that the worst consequence of getting in a fight with random people isn't the trespass charge (perma-banned from casino), bail or even missing the wedding because of spending some time in jail, it is that the other person might be crazy enough to be carrying a knife or to stomp you in the face while you are stunned on a pavement.

No but a good friend of mine. Her brother in law was accused of assaulting a woman in the hotel room. The room was a crime scene - the story was she was a working girl and afterwards he didn’t pay. Wonky story. The cops told her and her hubs exactly what her b in law was accused of. He was arrested but then released. Since the room was a crime scene they had to leave. As of yet no formal charges. Apparently the girl dropped the charges.
