As an update to my previous post regarding the audio book Marching Orders (American breaking of Japanese WWII codes).
Made it through two disks before unconditional surrender. Just don't have what it takes to carve out time and listen while being read to.
I can listen to podcasts while driving, no problem, because they're basically entertainment, not something I want to laser focus on.

I read the same novel over and over again, each time purchasing a new copy and either giving it to someone or leaving it in public somewhere to be found.

I've been reading fiction books by a couple of authors that are in the Lee Child/Jack Reacher genre...

Nick Petrie - the main character is Peter Ash, ex-military drifting across the USA.

Brian Haig - the main character is Sean Drummond, imagine a funnier Jack Reacher still in the military.

Just finishing this one up. Very readable, and there are some good history lessons in there. But, yikes!

As some alternative programming, I also got Blackjack for Blood and The Secret World of Video Poker Progressives from LVA  Regarding two other Very Important Books (;)) I’m a bit concerned about my ability to use the 2020 LVA (untouched) and ACG (used the Boyd match plays and Binion’s/QQQQ double point coupons but that’s it) :(

I've just finished 'The Warmth of Other Suns' which was exceptional. Now reading 'Born A Crime' by Trevor Noah and 'All The Beautiful Girls' (a beachy read with a Vegas slant? Sign me up!).

I read alot (for me) over the winter, so planned on slowing down a bit. Since March, this is all I've completed. Early in the lockdown, I binged "The Wire." (I had never seen it before.) I enjoyed it and, being acquainted with Baltimore, wanted to read Simon's "Homicide." That prompted me to watch Simon's "The Corner", but don't have access to it. I chose to read it. I'm on a long-range plan to familiarize myself with Jewish-American fiction; therefore the Malamud novellas. I actually read the whole cookbook recipe by recipe as I am shifting to the Mediterranean and DASH diets to lower BP.

OK, so this thread is making me so depressed. I have not read anything "fun" and enjoyable this summer. Last summer I was at Paris Hotel and I read Sydney Sheldon all day while drinking cran and vodkas and watching my skin turn pink.

This summer, trapped in quarantine, the work gets done.

I read: (I'm an doctoral student)

    Dissertation - start to finish
    Reading and Understanding Research
    Advanced Quant Analysis

    and this page turner

A beginners guide to A/B Testing

I think I'm going to go find the Liane Moriarty book soon

Right now reading "The Biggest Bluff" by Maria Konnikova
    Recent Reads:
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" Douglas Adams (for the 100th time or so, a quick read while waiting for a new book to arrive)
    "Outliers"- Malcolm Gladwell
"The Mirage"- Matt Ruff - interesting read about an alternate reality where the Mideast is the hegemon and terrorists from the US performed a terrorist attack on Baghdad on 11/9, not my favorite work of his, but was at least interesting
"Lovecraft Country" Matt Ruff- This one I liked a lot, and guess it's going to be a Jordan Peele series on HBO soon
A couple of Terry Pratchett re-reads in the interim again while waiting for other books to show up

    Upcoming:
Have Christopher Moore's newest book, "Shakespeare for Squirrels"
"Providence" by Max Barry- don't really know much about this, but it came up during Amazon surfing and looked interesting enough

I am currently catching up on the latest Baldacci books that I am behind on. Just finished "One Good Deed". just started " Minute to Midnight", and have one more waiting in the wings. When I have the time, I do about a book a week - reading for a while before bed each night

I read the Baldacci series about the Army SID Sergeant who was banging his female commanding General. Some good yarns.

I can relate. The good news is there is light at the end of the dissertation tunnel. I remember thinking I’d never escape the mounds of articles, Polit & Beck, and the APA handbook, but I did. My dissertation was qualitative so I spent hours and hours listening to interviews and developing concepts and themes and sub-themes.

The best part of being done was that I could actually pick up a book for fun!

    Some books I’ve read recently:

(I’ve been on a WWII fiction kick)

    Broken Angels - Gemma Liviero
    Pastel Orphans - Gemma Liviero
The Lines We Leave Behind - Eliza Graham
Pont Neuf - Max Byrd (wasn’t my favorite)
The Lost Girls of Paris - Pam Jenoff
    The Huntress - Kate Quinn
All the Light We Cannot See - Anthony Doerr
Beneath a Scarlet Sky - Mark Sullivan
The Alice Network - Kate Quinn
The Tracy Crosswhite series - Robert Dugoni

    On deck:

The Things We Cherished - Pam Jenoff
The Orphan’s Tale - Pam Jenoff
What the Wind Knows - Amy Harmon
Of Windmills and War - Diane Moody
