Things to do with Vegas Virgins!

Our trip is only a few weeks a way and I'm trying to make sure I'm not missing anything! We are taking our friends who have never been to Vegas. They aren't a real big help on things they want to do. We are staying a week so I want to try and get in all the greatness of Vegas that I can (barring certain things are open...I know). We are staying two nights at Venetian and 5 nights at Ceasars Palace. Here are some things we have planned:
The STRAT
Bellagio fountains and conservatory
Mirage volcano (if open)
Shark Reef (if open)
Secret gardens (if open)
Freemont street
Will explore various casinos on strip
Lunch at Hells Kitchen
Dinner at Camelot Steakhouse (if open, myVegas coupon)
Tournament of Kings (myVegas deal if open)

I want to make sure they have a good time. I'm sure there is plenty I'm forgetting. If you all have ideas on fun things to do or great places to eat (that won't break the bank too much) with them let me know!

Oh, anything that you WOULDN'T do when you lived in LV (as I recall you used to live there) because it was "too touristy".

 

The Pizza Rock on Freemont is a great place for lunch or dinner. My fav is the New Yorker. Andiamo's on Freemont (inside the D) is my go-to place for steaks. My last trip report from Nov 2019 has a picture of what I ordered from both Pizza Rock and Andiamo's. If your friends like desserts, go to Jean Phillip in the Bellagio to see the chocolate fountain and maybe even buy some cool sweets. If they want to see something that requires a drive away, see if Hoover dam is doing tours or not. Just some of my suggestions. I hope it helps.

 

Looks like you have a good plan to start with.

If you are staying a week and they have never been in the desert maybe take a trip down to the Hoover Dam if they are doing tours.
Cabanas have always been a big hit when I've taken rookies.
4-5 am breakfast/dinner after staying out all night drinking and gambling is a right of passage.

 

Pool day in 120F, Spa day (if open), tea at Waldorf Astoria (if open), drinks at Petrossian, Big Elvis at Harrahs piano bar, Shopping at CP, Wynn Buffet.

 

have to spend a night on fremont, the lights, the shows, the casinos right across from each other. and better pricing

harrah's piano bar to catch big elvis, do the rusty's karoake ,

ellis island for their specials and cheap gambling and great food.

I'd consider taking them on the High Roller and/or up the Paris Eiffel Tower.

Is the Eiffel tower worth it if we are doing happy half hour at the high roller? My guess is views will be the same for the most part. Anything unusually special about it?

 

@smbrake I think a big question might be what kind of gamblers you and they are. Also what kind of "foodies" they are as well and drinkers too.

With a week there are so many cool first time things to do. If it's open, they will likely want to stop at the sign. You might consider a limo ride down the strip on arrival as well. I did that with my parents and their friends on their first trip and they were amazed. With all the traffic lights it's a nice slow ride and a chance to soak in a lot.

If you are gamblers you might consider adding in some "games" to make exploring the casinos more exciting and interesting. Slot golf/ VP poker golf seems to be a cool one that we will be playing on our upcoming trip with friends. Basically you pick a number of casinos you want to visit and an amount you want to play in each place. Then you determine end points (time, money won/lost, a drink etc). This keeps you moving and seeing but makes it fun. We usually add a dinner bet as well where the "winners" pick the dinner place and treat since they "won" lol.

Flamingo habitat is a nice walk through. High roller, and if drinkers spring for the bar car and the night time.

Might consider top of binions for supper or oscars dowtown.

If you're renting a car, you can get out there a little more and drive to the damn dam or out to Red Rock or even out to stateline and the ghost towns. We took another group of virgins to California to buy lottery tickets lol.

Personally I don't like tours or things that require a set schedule. Especially since they seem non-comittal on things they want to do, the last thing you would want is to stop something they are enjoying because you booked something they end up not enjoying. .

We have taken a number of virgins and have 4 more that plan on coming with us after this ends, and we have found that a breakfast meetup with loose plans in the morning seems to help us not just stay stagnant, but also let's people apply the knowledge from the day before to what they want to do the next day. One couple fell in love with freemont st and left the strip every day to stay play and hang out on freemont st.

If they are tv foodies hitting some celebrity places is cool but if they are not big food people then eat when you're hungry lol.

There are some many cool things to do, that I also try to make sure I don't overwhelm anyone with too much stuff.

 

IMHO, do the High Roller at night. It's much more impressive at night.

Also, if you're downtown, Container Park at night (with the Mantis breathing Fire) might be worth a trip.

 

If no one has already said it, the Linq zip line or Slotzilla. Most of all, be flexible in your plans. Maybe factor in some separation time. Let them explore on their own and you can do your own thing for a while.

 

1000% literally just walking around the Forum Shops at Caesars and Grand Canal Shoppes at Venetian. I think it has a WOW factor to it. I dont know you or your friends personalities so its hard for me to guide...some things just wont impress people while really dumb shit might impress them. Because you are there a week, its plenty of time to doing alot without getting tired out. Also, a pool day or at least morning should be an easy sell, its beautiful.

Not sure if you are all gambler, just put money together in a slot...that way you all win/lost the same amount and everyone has a vested interest in it.

 

I am the most degenerate when it comes to gambling. My husband sticks to craps or bubble craps. The other two have done some gambling but not much. Not sure if they would be content sitting at a table or machine for hours. So I'm going to save my degenerate gambling for my other solo trips I have planned this year.

I wouldn't say we are foodies...but we love food, lol. I know my friend really wanted to go to HK so we are gonna do that. We have one non drinker, but she is fine with us drinking. My husband and I make the happy half hour on the high roller a challenge to see who can drink the most, lol.

 

Hey there.. I have not used it but some friends did and they recommend it.. you can try the GoLasVegas card.. check their webpage it includes a lot of touristy attractions for one fixed price per day, it will be wise to call and see which attractions are open and so, but might be a good alternative to doing a lot of touristy stuff..

 

Does anyone know if the Volcano at mirage has still been happening nightly even with that resort not open yet? Would love for them to see it, but dont know if Mirage will even be open then.

 

Did anyone mention the view from the top of the Stratosphere at sunset....or the rides?

I may have missed this in the thread, but have you traveled with these folks before? Being with another couple for 7 days, even if you're in two different rooms, is a little more challenging than splitting a dinner check at Applebee's.

A big red light is that the other couple is not a big help regarding what to do. You can have 50 more suggestions from others on the board, but if Vegas Virgins Dick and Jane aren't more forthcoming, may I suggest a come to Jesus meeting this weekend?

 

Ok, I'm a huge nerd. I have taken countless friends to Vegas for their first time, I constantly have people asking my advice for things to do. So finally I made a little cheat sheet that I give to people. I last updated it about 2 years ago so somethings might be out of date, but you get the gist. The only thing not on there I mention to some people depending their interests is a stop at a dispensary. Several things on my list have been mentioned by others but I hope you find this handy.
