I’ve seen mention in several comments about rules when casinos reopen that talk about card touching. What I’m seeing is ‘all cards face up with no touching cards’. Do you think that means no carnival games? Like 3 card poker....if all cards are dealt face up, I think that lessens house edge because you can see if there are a lot of face cards or low cards dealt to other players. Don’t think casinos will do that. So what do you think.... carny games down and out for now?

I doubt most places will open them initially, but probably will if the traffic warrants.

I prefer face down games, be it BJ, Pai Gow poker, 3-card poker or whatever, but face up wouldn't stop me … if I decided to go in the first place. I'm not! I seriously doubt seeing the other cards will help, especially if playing pair and ante, but it will certainly lessen the fun.

If I recall, the ability to sit 3rd base and see all 18 cards in players hands at a full table still doesn't flip the house edge into +EV territory, so I don't think casinos will care too much. Especially since a majority of players do things that go against the basic Q-6-4 strategy like blind play, refusing to play anything but a pair or an ace, etc.

At this point, I'm willing to bet they'll forego this slight EV decrease just to have people in the casino again.

Yeah with the new seating rules in place, I don't think any face up carny game becomes +EV. Mississippi Stud can with a full 6 players. But they can't currently have 6 players. https://discountgambling.net/mississippi-stud-ev-barona/

If the house edge gets reduced a bit, it's not a huge deal. Still probably better than keeping the table closed.

I expect that the house can change the payouts if they think that any face-up poker games hurt their edge (with the players being able to see what other cards are in play on the table).

The latest CDC news says that the virus 'does not spread easily' on contaminated surfaces, so maybe handling cards won't be as big a deal as first thought. NOTE: I'm not speculating or spreading rumors – it's on the CDC's website! But touching the cards or not, what about the chips? I haven't heard anything mentioned about them!

Not only because of touching cards.. but this is a good question because of room issues.
with limiting 3 people to a table and likely spreading tables out more will they get rid of some games.
While I play blackjack occasionally... my go to games are Let it Ride and High Card Flush. I just find them more exciting.

I unfortunately could see Let it Ride disappear as they have less room for table players.
I think High Card Flush is still popular enough that it will be around.. possible not at the beginning but will come back

Hopefully those who do the early Trip reports will report on this to let us know what games (both tables and slots) are available and at what casinos.

Chips are a necessary evil. They'll be touched by players and dealers. Hopefully they'll be washed more often...

High card flush is subject to collusion, but at 3 max it looks to be okay for the house. Needs to be 6 players for a player to have an edge.

I am not sure how she got approval to cross the border, but Slotlady just posted a fresh new video of her playing 3 card poker at the Mineral Palace in Deadwood. Consider it one example of how 3 card poker looks today -- though it is just heads-up action.

I don't see any difference either between this video of 3-Card-Poker and pre-Covid19 3-Card Poker. I was expecting the player's cards to be dealt face up so she wouldn't be touching them..

I like LIR and seeing all cards would only help me with my decisions. So, I can't see them opening many(or any) tables unless they get good size crowds in. I never saw LIR open late morning or noon but more available in the evening before this virus.

South Dakota may not have mandated this. But NV explicitly suggested face up games only.

Harrahs in NC had 3 card and you could hold cards like normal, which in NC is one hand only

I'm not sure how other states handle it, but in Pa at least changing any payout on any table game would have to go through the gaming commission. There is also the cost of reprinting and changing the felt, and if a game is under license, I believe it has to follow one of the licensed paytables.

As to handling chips and cards, with the new CDC guidance it seems unlikely that either of these will be issues for the casino, though they will probably be changing cards more frequently as a precaution. The big key to handling cards and or chips is to then avoid contact with nose and eyes while playing and after until washing or sanitizing.

It wouldn't surprise me if instead of standard washing of chips, casinos look to incorporate uv light systems to sanitize chips and or cards.

Many things have not added up in my head. It seems if transmitting the virus by cards or chips were likely, there would have been a massive outbreak tied to Vegas or in Vegas back before the casinos were closed. I played in the WSOP Circuit at the Rio in late February. Having that many people in one area, it seems that would have happened, if so. There is likely science behind some of this, but it seems like it is much more of CYA. Some protections for businesses against frivolous lawsuits regarding the virus would help.

Any other news about LIR in the strip. Any tables open at Harrahs or Flamingo? Players touch cards?

Vegas_Advantage on Twitter listed some minimums on the 26th for 3 card: $5 - Paris, Ballys. $10 - Mandalay Bay, Luxor. $15 - Aria. Also listed other games like MStud and Pai Gow were open. Never mentioned if it was dealt face up.
