Palms staying closed, what other stations casino should I go to?

I'm hoping to go back to Vegas 8/31-9/2 and was planning on staying at my home casino of the Palms. Now that they are going to be closed (probably until sold) I'm debating between Green Valley Ranch or Red Rock. Which would be better or is there another place you would stay? I love VP and play slots, but want to keep comps coming.

 

Of the two, I prefer Green Valley's slot floor. The staff there is really nice too. I've stayed at Red Rock maybe three times, and while the room was nice, I just never cared for the layout of the casino floor. The slots there never liked me either.

I'm not sure if they still have it, but there was a shuttle from GVR to Mandalay Bay.

 

IMO, the Red Rock is a nicer property than GVR

 

btw, isn't it quite crazy that they just dumped so much money in this place with all the remodles, the pool debacle etc... just to now have it closed for good?

 

Yep. Some of the moves they made were right but when I didn't see a pivot in how they do marketing and the room rates they needed, it became clear it would be a problem long term. I hope they realize they are going to get away with dumping those construction costs on someone else.

i think it's just a sign of how popular a strip location can be and how one block away from the strip can severely diminishes it's value to tourists. I swear a lot of people would rather stay in flamingo than palms..

 

When Maloof's owned it, it was always busy. With both locals and tourists. The issue started after they sold it.

 

They have said it is “temporarily” closed; I hope that is the case.

 

I have several friends who have been there since it opened. Last week they were told they were terminated.

 

Wow, this is all news to me! This sucks...I really like Palms.

 

It's on the "back end" of Station's reopening plan. They probably won't open it back up until the market justifies it. They certainly won't need 100% of their casino portfolio to reopen short-term, maybe even medium-term.

 

That's been my vegas home since they opened. Now I'm not sure where to go

 

I'm one of those who would rather stay at the Flamingo than the Palms

 

Palms, like Silverton is very popular with Asian tourists, and until they return Station will keep to the locals.

Station Casinos will hold off opening Palms, Fiesta Henderson and Texas Station until data reveals how business is doing in the wake of COVID-19.

Palace Station is pretty nice since the remodel if that's a choice in August/Sept.

My favorite casino and Royal Flush Capital of the World is not even on that list, Fiesta Rancho.

 

That Stations is holding off opening up Palms doesn't surprise me at all. It has a concert venue -- two I believe -- and is more of a club like atmosphere than all of the other Stations properties so a good chunk of Palms revenue, especially relative to all of the other Stations casinos, is tied to mass gatherings, which aren't happening for some time. In addition, Palms also has more high end restaurants relative to other Stations properties that probably need more tourists to warrant opening them from a operations cost perspective.

 

It’s all about foot traffic, SLS was extremely nice! But a pain in the ass to get to. I feel Resorts World will have this same issue, couple that with the fact that legalized gambling will be in almost every state by 2022.

 

Wow! I guess I also missed the news that Palms was going to be sold. Was there a news article about this? When was this decided? I always had good luck at Palms.

 

You didn’t miss that news as there has been nothing to say it is being sold just that it won’t be one of the Stations properties initially re-opened.
