I have never played craps and want to learn for my next trip. I’ve been reading the posts here and found a YouTube channel that teaches it pretty well. Last weekend I got bored and figured why not make my own table! A box and 2 paperboards later and BAM! Kitchen table is converted to a craps table!

What little practice I have done I already learned you need a hot shooter / long roll to make any decent wins at $5.

I start with $5 on the pass and cover 6 and 8. Collect the first hit of any number and press the next to cover inside numbers. Then rotate collect and press until a 7 rolls.
Can’t wait to try my first live roll in April.

Very Cool! You can now let others gamble on your table and you can be the House. You'll make a lot more that way, even at $5 minimums. :)

That's exactly how I learned when I turned 21 in college! We sat in my buddies kitchen and drank Four Lokos trying to learn the game. I definitely didn't learn much that night, but over time I became a pro.

:thumbsup:I like it, but please at least get some regulation casino dice. ( a buck or less a pair at any casino gift shop. Collect them all!)
You're not going to learn the grip right.
    And they look cooler, too.

then check amazon and see a felt layout is cheap.
    then get a bigger table,
then look into a corner section of the diamond back wall material.
then stick a full size table in your living room.

(half in jest, as I've seen a few on youtube)

(or don't and do what I did- pay tuition to try the real deal)

You're on the right track by wanting to learn and experiment. Careful, it can be addictive.

The garage is a much better place and allows for more shooters around the table. That is, until someone needs to park their car in there!

Great way to learn the game and payouts! Just add some cigarette smoke and free booze to complete the Vegas experience!

Briefly thought about buying one of those practice rigs: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NZ65S5S/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_yMjnEbF9RJYFQ

But the evidence for actually having an edge with dice control is slim, and the practice long and grueling. I've decided just to play and have fun!

Nice - I bought a mini craps table about the same size with nice wooden frame, dice and felt for $2 at the church thrift store of all places. I now regularly check back there for gambling and bar accessories.

Always a dream to put a craps table in the garage. Saw a craigslist post once for an all-in-one convertible table that opened up to have craps felt, blackjack, poker...mad I passed it up would have been great in the spare room

I have a makeshift craps table that had a throwing area with the felt layout so I could work on betting strategies, and a 4ft x 4ft landing area with the diamonds so I can have actual shots. Unfortunately it has been put away since someone “needs” to have their car in the garage. I’ve had a few folks from the neighborhood throwing before to have a little fun and let me practice betting on other shooters too.

we had a couple home made tables... one in the dungeon in the VFW....until we got busted because some wife called the cops because hubs was losing his paycheck.

had another under a pavilion outside the K of C.

another in the former Marine Corps building tuned into a private club.
two "boyz" got caught switching dice and all hell broke loose.

if we didn't have a felt with a layout on it, the box man kept track of the bets(sometimes multiple guys would fade parts of the "center" and use a playing card to show what the point was. all other bets were among the players.
I was box man a few games....
one time the "boyz" got tapped and I loaned them $1000 to get back in the game. They said
they would pay me back the next morning at a local coffee shop and I said Ok, you owe me $1100.
Next morning a guy was there with the $1100 and I gave him back the "vig" and he said he would tell
the guys I was just busting their balls. anyway, I made a couple friends of a friend of a friend.

The dice are terrible and are already peeling a bit! The black dots seem to come off! Is that a sign I’m rolling too much already! Haha I am definitely getting a pair of dice on my next trip!

I bought a craps felt a couple of decades ago. I was trying to teach my brother and my friend the game of craps. I picked up the felt at the Gambler's General Store for $5 at the time. Showed my bro and my friend the game in our hotel room the first night we got there. Then they were ready to play and got hooked on the game.

Not sure how much the felt costs now but it was a good experience playing with the "real" felt.

but if you browse the internet I'm sure you can load a craps game to practice on.

My wife and I go on spurts where we play each night then sometimes not for a week or so.
We try different betting styles, bets and compare results.
In Vegas she just watches me play but after playing at home she said next trip (March) she is definitely going to play.

A work in progress but getting close. The idea is the felt is inlaid into my work bench, so when I want to play I just flip up or remove the top, and put the rails on. Waiting on some pieces to build the rails.

While it's a nice idea not to lose actual money and pay casino prices for drinks, the real motivation is I just don't have the time now that I have kids. Unless I want to be a shitty Dad, which I don't. When the craps table is finally done it will round out my home casino of BJ table, slots, and craps.[IMG][IMG]

I bought a mini craps felt on eBay that I've used to teach people the game. I used to set it up in the break room at the dealership and we used washers for chips. Difficult game to learn without practice.

On a whim my wife and I bought one of these when we moved into a larger house and were shopping for stools. We don't use the blackjack or roulette much but have had lots of fun practicing/playing/teaching craps to friends and family. The craps tub is about four feet across and there aren't any bumpers so the dice are bouncing off plywood but it is enough for people to grasp the basics. Only real knock is the chip racks aren't wide enough for standard clay chips but we have a magic shop in town that sells gaming supplies so we loaded up on plastic chip boxes. And our bar is way fuller than the one pictured.

I'll skip my boring how-I-got-started-playing-craps story. I'll also skip my sad gambling learning curve stories. That was years ago. I've not been able to play much since,
especially seriously. But in the meantime, I was determined to do something about it.

Years ago, I bought a gambling table from Academy. They offered it only at Christmas. I don't know if they still do. However, it was reasonably priced ($200 if memory serves).

When the table is all closed up, it looks nice against a long window or behind the couch. It's got a chess set on it. I know how, but don't enjoy the game.

I had already bought several used dice from a Vegas souvenir shops. I then found pictures of authentic chips on the internet and used them to print on
sticky backed printer paper. It did take me awhile to cut them all out and stick them to cheap clay chips I also bought online.

The table has several games... BJ, Roulette, Poker, and Craps.

I've spent so many hours playing Craps on it, it's alarming. It could probably use a felt exchange now.

But I now know the game and understand the odds, payouts, etc. I'm very casino ready.

All I need now is a grubstake. Someday..... :snore:
